Boys & Girls Clubs of N.W. Tennessee HUMBOLDT CLUB Bird & Burger Dinner The Humboldt Boys & Girls Club s first Bird and Burger Dinner will be highlighted by Keynote Speaker Kacy Rodgers, Defensive Line Coach for the Miami Dolphins. Special entertainment will also be offered by club members. The event is scheduled to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2012 at the Humboldt Club located at 1503 Osborne St. Tickets for the benefit dinner are $100 for single tickets and $800 for corporate tables (tables of 8, dinner for 6 representatives of your firm and 2 Boys & Girls Club members.) Tickets may be purchased at the club or from any Boys & Girls Club board member. Rodgers, a native of Humboldt, is entering his 6 th season as a member of the Dolphins coaching staff. He joined the team after a fiveyear stint with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-07), the final three of which he tutored that team s defensive line. Student Honored by Outreach Ministry Alexandra Valadez was chosen as the second student to be honored by the True Holiness Church of Trenton s outreach ministry, headed by Minister Nicholas Graves. Alexandra was selected based on her grades, character, interactivity with others, and citizenship. She is an honor roll student and is described by staff as polite and respectful. Minister Graves presented her with a certificate and a Wal-Mart gift card (below). Alexandra will be featured in the West Tennessee Examiner. Jewel Awards Left, Boys & Girls Club members recently attended the 12 Annual Jewel Awards Banquet. The students were among hundreds at New St. Luke church, Jackson, Tn., where the event was held. The annual banquet honors outstanding contemporary business owners and entrepreneurs across West Tennessee. Boys & Girls Club students were sponsored by Baskerville Funeral Home. Jump Rope For The Heart Blue Cross & Blue Shield Community Outreach Rep., Sylvia Stamper, held a jump rope marathon at the Humboldt Boys & Girls Club. Fun was had by all and everyone participating received gifts. Club members (top from left) Kyla Thomas, Shakaiya Hunt, Jaylan Dickey and Aryn Hargis enjoy participating in the competition. Annual Read A-Thon Below, Andrea Stewart, Club Director, visits Stigall Primary School to participate in the One Church, One School Read-A-Thon. Following the session, Mrs. Stewart presented each student with a book. Family Values Session Above: This month s Family Values Session was presented by speakers from Tennessee Technology Center and JSCC, who discussed computer basics such as setting up safe e-mail accounts. Party, Party, Party... Members of the Gibson County Student Leadership Association sponsored a party to celebrate Valentine s Day at the club. The party, organized by 28 Gibson County high school students, had a variety of treats which included cookies, candy and dancing. Students who volunteered included: Christopher Dodson, Jordan Calk, Nely Gonzalez, Cody Sain, Raven Templin, Shivam Ishanpara, Xavier Lee, Erin Lewis, Haley Riggs, Jasmine Scott, Samantha Jelinek, Hannah Houck, Maggie Walgren, Madeline Moore, Destiny Meyer, Rachael Schulze, Jan Smith, Robert Rayburn, Elana Smith, Mary Beth Chandler, Grace Jewell, Kaitlyn Kyle, Sarah Catherine Thornton, Eli Todd, Lexi Whitley, Holly Terry, Madison Adams and Vince Brown. Good-Bye Ms. Graves... Members of the Boys & Girls Club turned the Valentine s party into a goodbye party for the Sports and Fitness Coordinator, Jessica Graves (center white shirt). This was her last day at the club. Ms. Graves, who had been with the club for more than one year, landed a full-time job with a company in Jackson. Page 4 Boys & Girls Clubs of N.W. Tennessee

Spreading the Love... Boys & Girls Club members colored hundreds of cards for Valentine s Day. The cards were delivered to local nursing homes by members of the mentoring group of the 4-H Club. Boys & Girls Club members who delivered cards to nursing home residents and staff included (clockwise from top left): Zarria King, Patience Boykin, Donnell Robinson, Antwanet Jordan, Courtney Dickey, Tiffany Mclilly, Deshanta Mann, Skyy Dickey and Madison Patrick. Safety, Electricity, and Lamps... Gibson County 4-H Members from the Humboldt Boys & Girls Club learned about Electrical Safety and how we benefit from it. They also learned how our world would be different if we did not have electricity. At the end of the lesson each member learned how to wire and make their own electric lamp using a beverage can for its base. The members attended the workshop at the Gibson Electric Cooperative in Alamo, TN and the session was taught by Deborah Seward, Gibson County 4-H Agent.
