THE OPPORTUNITY DIRECTOR OF MARKETING The Director of Marketing has overall responsibility for preserving, promoting, and enhancing the public reputation and profile of the University. While providing strategic leadership for marketing, brand identity, and web development, the Director will develop comprehensive marketing strategies that position UFV as a leader and institution of choice in post-secondary education. Key Responsibilities Leads the development of integrated marketing and brand strategies for the University; updates and advances positioning framework for brand and identity systems, and generally champions marketing and communications within UFV; Oversees creative and marketing strategies for showcasing UFV s mission, priorities, and community across the full range of channels to a wide array of audiences locally, provincially, and beyond; Provides leadership in positioning and elevating UFV s profile and reputation in the context of an increasingly cluttered, competitive post-secondary landscape; develops strong relationships and networks across administrative/faculty units to ensure a strong, coordinated brand presence for UFV internally and externally; Promotes a dynamic and engaging university relations platform for both internal and external customers; directs and mentors the marketing team responsible for multi-platform visual design, web and digital strategy and development, publications, photography, and video production; Provides strategic leadership and support to large university events and community engagement activities that are often the initiatives of the President s Office and considered a strategic priority of the institution, with widespread public visibility and internal and external community engagement; Provides strategic advice, support, and communications counsel in the development and implementation of the University s strategic plans; and Promotes a dynamic and engaging university relations platform and provides strategic counsel to internal customers on brand identity, reputation, and positioning. 2 Page
THE PERSON The ideal Director of Marketing is detail-oriented, dynamic, solutions-focused, and well-experienced with the complexities of the digital and social media marketing landscape. Possessing an inclusive leadership style, s/he is able to make decisions, and advance marketing and advertising initiatives to completion in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a collaborative approach to generating interest in and awareness of the University. A visionary leader and change manager, the Director is able to articulate a bold direction and possesses the collaborative skills, knowledge, and experience to make it happen. S/he should be an experienced team builder who can inspire, grow, mentor, and recognize staff, while building engagement across UFV, and leveraging the considerable expertise and strength that exists within the organization. Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: A relevant university degree and continued learning in leadership and specifically marketing; Professional Chartered Marketer (CIM) designation is preferred; Exceptional understanding of branding principles, and marketing, communications, and public relations techniques, messaging to diverse range of audiences from various cultural backgrounds; Progressive experience in directly related leadership positions, with a significant portion in a senior leadership role and at least five years direct supervision of a similar team serving a complex, multi-focus organization (preferably in a post-secondary environment); Proven ability to manage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously; and A record of forging strong relationships with cross-functional teams, and of building internal and external relationships in support of organizational vision, mission, and objectives. 3 Page
