E-learning Seminar Press Release Dated: 08 th of November 2013, Friday Today a Seminar on E-Learning was held in Syiem Jingsuk Secondary School, Amlarem themed Transformative E-Learning in Higher Education. The said seminar was organized by Martin Luther Christian University-Nongtalang Campus in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (Jowai), IT Department, Govt. of Meghalaya and was supported aptly by the District Administration, West Jaintia Hills District through Voluntary Action Fund. The seminar was graced by the presence of Mr.Stephanson Mukhim, who is the sitting MLA of the region and holds the office as the Parliamentary secretary, in charge of sports and youth affairs, Govt. of Meghalaya, as the Chief Guest. Mr. N.A.K Syiem,the Sub Divisional Officer (Civil),was also present as the Guest of honor along with Smt. M Pyrbot,incharge of the District School Education Officer, was the Special guest of the seminar.the seminar was Chaired by Rev. E.H Kharkongor, Registrar of the University. The seminar started with a warm note as the participants of the various schools from Nongtalang, Sohkha, Jarain and Amlarem took part in it. A total of two hundred students were present to witness the educational program that focused on the new arrival of a genre in the field of education which is the electronic learning or E-Learning. The seminar was put on a high with speeches from the Coordinator of the Campus followed by the breathtaking and inspirational speech of the Chief Guest. A new point in the seminar was put on by the principal of the Syiem Jingsuk Secondary School, Fr.Fancis Huin who asked the participants to take this moment and make this as a Life Learning experience. An important aspect was discussed during the speeches were by the Registrar mentioned the various problems faced by the region in terms of connectivity and internet accessibility. The motive of the seminar was to address the participants about the pros and cons of internet, electronic media and fast changing technologies of the modern world. The seminar was intended on providing the participants with the knowledge of the various technologies at hand that can be useful for them to pursue education and also to encourage them to ask questions and to find answers using internet technologies. It also proved to be handy in guiding them towards a sense of availability of answers to different doubts that may occur during class hours and how those doubts can be addressed using all the said technologies at hand. In addition to this the seminar also explained the fact that even in the remotest of location internet can still be achieved as long as a service provider/mobile operator is available with the use of Android technology. Hotspot Tethering was explained which gave the participants the knowledge of creating their own Wi-Fi connections at home or at school or college. A simple intranet connection using the basic Client-Server mechanism was also discussed. The seminar had five Resource Persons who shared their point of view of the technical and non technical aspects of E-Learning. The presentations were given by Mr. Valentine Ryntathiang (SO, NIC Jowai), Mr. Phernaky K Muttyent (Lecturer, MLCU), Mr. Deepjyoti Hazarika (Senior Consultant, State e-governance Mission), Mr. Suraj P Neupane (SO-SB, NIC Baghmara) and Mr. Dickie M Sangma (Sr. Asst. System Administrator, Office of the Treasury Officer, Baghmara). During the course of presentations a wide range of topics were discussed, the participants were guided to use the gadgets like Android Smart Phones and Tablets to the best of their efficiency and how to successfully install and download files from the server, one of the presenter also
mentioned the various tips and tricks of searching through a search engine to get the fastest and better results. At the end of this seminar the participants left with abundant knowledge about E-Learning methods that can and will be implanted in the country, the use of internet and its advantages in terms of education, the hash code mechanism of search in a search engine, the android technology and its advantages, the server terminologies and the client/server system, downloading and installation of applications in the Computer, Tablets, Smart phones etc. and not to forget how the Government at the Central and also the State level is trying to make use of E-Learning for the benefit of all the students, teachers and also the people in and around the country. The participants left with the feeling of rejuvenation when they realized that with e-learning location is no longer a barrier to quality education. Photo Below
