One of three Provincial Assistants for Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education (PASE) who care for 15 sponsored schools, two endorsed schools, and three international schools. The PASE office assists faculties, administrations, and boards in understanding the Catholic and Jesuit mission and identity of the schools, with formation, and starting and sustaining Jesuit identity programs. Delegated by the Provincial to serve as his direct liaison with six schools: Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, Cristo Rey New York High School, Loyola School, Saint Peter s Preparatory School, St. Aloysius School, and St. Ignatius School. Serves as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees of all six schools. Serves as the ex officio chair of the Board of Members for three pre-secondary schools. Maintains active contact with the schools to help make the Society of Jesus present, to help make known major directions, to understand the major issues of the schools, and to keep the Provincial informed. This is achieved through an annual official visitation (two to three days), as well as through attendance at school events, fundraisers, liturgies, etc. as time permits. Convenes various meetings of the Provincial with school leadership teams (presidents, board chairs, principals, and rectors/superiors of Jesuit communities). Organize regular meetings and retreat experiences for various school affinity groups as need and interest may dictate. This includes direct responsibility for the Partners in Mission program (for 1st and 2nd year faculty/staff) and the Student Leadership Workshop. Also direct ad hoc task forces and committees as special projects arise (e.g. Technology Vision Task Force). Organize regional conferences for cohort groups in the Northeast and Maryland Provinces as a means of building community and collaboration in anticipation of the formation of the USA East Province scheduled for 2020. This includes meetings of Assistant Principals, Principals, Mission and Identity Directors, Christian Service Directors, Campus Ministers, Theology Teachers, etc. Convene meetings of the Northeast Schools Advisory Board to provide advice and counsel to the PASE office on Province programs and school matters, as well as assist with the development, planning, coordination, and execution of major Province programs. Oversee the Province Sponsorship Agreements with the schools and the Sponsorship Review Process developed to monitor these agreements on a five-year cycle of self-study and formal visit.

Work with PASE from the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States and the staff and board of the Jesuit Schools Network to implement the new network of Jesuit schools that emerged from the Jesuit Secondary Education Association this year. Serve as a consultant to boards and administrations regarding the assignment of Jesuit personnel, succession planning and search committees, the appointment of trustees, by-laws and Society law governing educational institutions. Keep the Provincial informed and advise him regarding current needs and issues in schools. Work with the Provincial in assigning available Jesuits for service in schools, and with the Assistant for Formation in preparing Jesuits in formation for possible missioning to the schools. Serve as the Province liaison with the Jesuit Schools Network, the Cristo Rey Network, and the NativityMiguel Coalition. Represent the Province at Assistancy PASE meetings and USA East planning meetings, as well as to diocesan school offices and other educational groups. Work with the Director of Vocations to encourage school leadership in developing programs to foster vocations to the Society of Jesus. Fordham University, Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education Adjunct Faculty of Religious Education Teaching graduate level course, Education for Peace and Justice, for both master and doctoral level students. Responsible for the design of course curriculum, selection of texts, and direct assessment of all student work, both oral presentation and writing. Taught the course as a 15-week semester twice and as an intensive summer week once. Currently developing an 8-week online course, which entails the overall design of all curricular materials on Blackboard (audio over PowerPoint presentations, videos, discussion board, reflection journals, and online blog of current issues of faith, peace, and social justice). Will teach online course in Spring 2016, and both online and on campus courses in future years. Serve as a dissertation committee reader for two students with responsibility for careful review and critique of dissertation proposals and chapters, as well as presence at dissertation proposal hearings and dissertation defenses. New York Province of the Society of Jesus Assistant to Secondary and Pre-Secondary Education August-December 2014 Member of the PASE staff responsible for the care of the apostolate of secondary and presecondary education in the New York Province, with oversight of seven high schools and three middle/elementary schools. Job responsibilities are the same as above. The New York and New England Provinces merged to form the USA Northeast Province on December 3, 2014. Xavier High School Chair, Religion Department 2009-2014 Contributed to the academic life of the school through professional leadership and administration within the Religion Department and active assistance to the Headmaster. Directed the setting of goals and coordination of department wide efforts to develop, establish, and continually improve appropriate curriculum and pedagogy. Supervised the review and formal writing of the four-year Religion curriculum through the Curriculum Design and Review Process, including the addition of new electives in senior year. Shaped the academic quality, course content, sequence, and methods of instruction in light of student needs and the entire school curriculum. Prepared the composition of student assessment and evaluation, explicitly reviewing and approving semester examinations and assisting departmental faculty with the administration, review, and improvement of ordinary evaluations such as quizzes, tests, and papers. Evaluated department members through annual formal classroom observations and ongoing supervision throughout the academic year. Facilitated regularly scheduled department meetings and communicated specific agenda and minutes to department members and the Headmaster. Delegated responsibility for curriculum guidance to year-level coordinators and worked in collaboration with them to direct the efforts of the entire department. Planned course offerings and teaching assignments in consultation with the administration.

Assisted school administration with the hiring of new department faculty through applicant review, interviews, and observation of demo lessons. Projected and allocated the annual departmental budget. Faculty, Religion Department 2002-2014 Taught multiple levels of the Religion curriculum, including yearlong courses in discipleship and church history for sophomores, theology and ethics for juniors, semester courses in social justice, philosophy, world religions, and Ignatian spirituality for seniors, and additional summer remediation courses for freshmen and transfer students. Maintained professional standards of academic excellence consistent with the school mission. Employed a variety of teaching methods in the classroom, with particular attention to studentcentered learning, Ignatian pedagogy, and the continued implementation of new technologies. Designed assessments and administered grading reports in compliance with school policy, making evaluation a continual part of the learning process and connected to instructional goals. Served as a mentor to first year teachers in the department. Granted tenure in the 2007-2008 academic year. Served as an academic advisor for junior and senior homerooms. Chaperoned three Xavier in Europe cultural trips over winter break: Italy (2004), Spain (2005), France (2006). Director of Ignatian Service Programs 2005-2012 Directed all service programs at Xavier High School, reporting directly to the Headmaster. Coordinated the Christian Service Program for Seniors, including placement of students at over 100 service agencies throughout New York City, including, but not limited to, day care and Head Start programs, soup kitchens, nursing homes, schools, and hospitals. Maintained appropriate relationships with over 300 available service sites and recorded accurate student attendance and certification for graduation in direct communication with supervisors. Scheduled all reflection groups and papers with shared leadership among faculty and staff. Coordinated the underclassmen Christian Service Program and delegated responsibility for supervision to sophomore and junior year Religion Department faculty. Revitalized the Companions of Xavier Service Program and created service trips for each respective grade level, expanding the program from 18 students on two trips in 2003 to 140 students on five trips in 2012. Initiated, planned, and organized 41 service trips in ten years and served as director of 20 trips. Maintained appropriate relationships with four longstanding organizations, and their respective staff and communities, served by the Companions of Xavier Service Program: First Fruits Farm (Freeland, MD), Appalachia Habitat for Humanity (Robbins, TN), Esperanza International (Tijuana, MX), and the Bayou Recovery Project (Bayou La Batre, AL). Established all criteria and guidelines for students, faculty, staff, and alumni volunteers. Authored original reflection journals for each service trip with explicit connections to themes of Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian spirituality. Coordinated various school-wide efforts for charitable donations, including the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, Christmas Toy Drive, and Lenten Clothing Drive. Created, implemented, and organized the Acoustic Coffeehouse, a semi-annual musical event for student and faculty bands to raise funds for service trips. Projected and allocated a $40,000 annual budget for service programs. Planned and coordinated all fundraising efforts for service trips, exceeding $100,000 annually. Awarded national recognition through the inaugural Charity and Social Service Honor from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Member, Campus Ministry Team 2002-2014 Served as an adult leader or director on every student retreat currently offered at Xavier, including the Freshman Day of Reflection, Montserrat, Kairos, Magis, and Senior Silent Retreat. Supported the liturgical life of the community as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Assisted in the founding and organization of the Arrupe Society, a student-initiated effort for education and action for social justice.

Served as a chaperone for the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, D.C. Collaborated with the Campus Ministers and Chaplain in fostering the religious and spiritual life of the Xavier community.
