RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process for giving candidates credit for skills, knowledge and experience gained through working and learning. The RPL process measures your skills against the outcomes of a course or module. RPL includes course/module exemptions. It is important to apply for RPL if you think you already have some experience that might be relevant to your course. WHO WILL BE TRAINING YOU? Only leaders can create leaders therefore American College continues to invest in its workforce and recruits, develops, and retains the staff needed to achieve the institution s goals. All trainers and assessors at American College are well qualified with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) and have experience in their particular field of training. 12

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES ORIENTATION On your first day at our college, you will be provided an orientation to cover issues such as: ü Information relating to studying and living in Australia, including visa conditions, attendance and participation requirements ü Student support services ü Emergency and Health services ü American College policies and procedures ü Facilities and Resources ü Complaints and Appeals process You will meet the staff and make new friends too. Students have access to expert student Counsellors to help theme resolve concerns about their studies, career and personal lives. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT American College provides assistance to international students and their families, from arrival to departure. American College has an International Student Support Officer (ISSO), who is responsible for helping overseas student settle into living and studying in Australia, make contact with overseas students immediately after their arrival in Australia and will provide assistance whenever necessary during your stay. HOW TO APPLY APPLICATION PROCEDURES If you wish to apply to American College but you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, you are considered to be an overseas student and you must apply for an overseas student visa from an Australian Embassy in your home country before leaving for Australia. It is advised to start your visa application early to ensure that you are able to begin your studies at American College on the commencement date. ELIGIBILITY American College reserves the right to accept or deny entry into a course. Consideration for special entry into a course may be granted to a mature age student (over 18 years of age/grade 12) who can provide evidence of prior and relevant work or life experiences in a field related to the course and at least one reference from an employer. All of American College s CRICOS registered courses have specific entry requirements that are detailed in each course s program outline. ACADEMIC AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS Overseas students whose first language is not English must satisfy one of the following English language proficiency requirements: ü Satisfactory completion of the American College Language, Literacy and Numeracy test (free of charge) ü Successful completion of an acceptable formal English test (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, etc.) ü Overall score of 5.5 in IEL TS or equivalent (for International students wherever applicable) ü All overseas students must be able to read, write and comprehend English to a level that will allow them to undertake and understand your chosen course. APPLICATION PROCEDURE ü Complete the international Student application Form. ü Complete a Credit Transfer/RPL Application (if applicable) ü Submit your application along with certified copies of your passport, academic qualifications, IEL TS (if applicable) and any other information if required and the $195 AUD enrolment fee. ACCEPTANCE OF ENROLMENT If your application is successful: ü Complete and forward the Letter of Offer and Acceptance to American College to indicate your acceptance. ü Your first course s 25% tuition fees and your Overseas Student Health Cover payment are to be made in Australian Dollars. On receiving it we will confirm your enrolment in writing and provide you with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ecoe). You can use this for your visa application. APPLYING FOR A STUDENT VISA Once you have accepted your offer at American College you can apply for your student visa. To do this you will need to take the following information to an Australian Embassy in your home country: ü A Letter of Offer from American College ü An electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ecoe) from American College ü A Medical Check-up and X-ray, if required ü Proof of financial support, as required by legislation. School aged dependants accompanying overseas students to Australia may be required to pay full fees if they are enrolling in either a government or non-government school. Please note that American College provides free airport pickup, guided tours and one week free accommodation. Please contact administration for more information.
