(PYP) The vision for PYP is that it aims to help PNU students succeed in a fast moving, competitive world by providing an exceptional education experience. The mission of the PYP as set out by PNU is that it aims to provide students with opportunities for self and academic development in order to prepare them for successful university study in a state of the art technology campus. The PYP is a one year academic programme over two semesters (35 weeks) which aims to bring the students English language proficiency level up to the minimum standard required for entry into the mainstream PNU career programmes. With 20 hours contact per week of English language classes, the programme aims to improve students English language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with a strong emphasis on language structures. The programme initially aims to increase students ability to communicate on general topics, both orally and in writing, and with a subsequent emphasis in an academic context. The programme emphasises and encourages students to become independent learners through classroom participation, task based learning projects and continuous assessments. Reports to: Programme Leader Roles reporting to the position: English Teachers Primary objective of the position: Operational management of teaching staff. Providing coaching and guidance. To provide support to the Programme Leader and Academic Director. Functional relationships with: Academic Director Associate Academic Director Programme Leaders Teachers Dean of PYP, PNU Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Assist with the implementation of the policies for the day to day operational management of the teaching staff within agreed budgets and timescales. 2. Assist in the allocation of teaching resources. 3. Ensure teaching records are accurate and completed in a timely manner. 4. Assist with the delivery of an appropriate professional development programme for the academic staff and assist with teacher training as required. 5. Be part of the Senior Academic team, assist with an effective quality assurance programme and provide reports, assessments and final certificates at agreed times. 6. Provide assistance with necessary academic administration tasks as required. 7. Deputise for the Programme Leader as required. 8. Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, risk management and general duty of care. 9. Assist with placement testing (administering and marking) and carry out summative and formative assessments. 10. Assist with student complaints. 11. Other reasonable duties as required. PERSON SPECIFICATION Gender: Essential (these are the qualifications, attributes and experience essential to perform the position) Education and Qualifications A post graduate teaching qualification in English Language teaching, Second Language Teaching or Applied Linguistics An internationally recognised practical teaching qualification e.g. CELTA, Trinity, DipEd Training, Skills and Knowledge Minimum of 5 years experience of teaching English as a second language, along with a sound knowledge of education principles in a TESOL environment. A student focused approach to teaching activities and an overall client centred approach. Curriculum development skills. Experience of working with ESOL teachers in a leadership capacity to create a positive working environment to achieve high performance. Experience with quality assurance systems. Demonstrated strong organisational and administrative abilities with a high level of computer skills. Experience in strategic planning, development, evaluation and delivery of programmes.
