Labratry Cmpnent: Yu must be c-enrlled in the labratry, BIOL 2065, which is a separate curse with a separate syllabus and grading plicy. Curse Descriptin: BIOL 2060-Principles f Micrbilgy is a prerequisite curse fr health related prgrams at mst clleges: nursing, dental hygiene, respiratry therapy and many ther prgrams. It may be taken by nn-science majrs t fulfill graduatin requirements. This curse des nt fulfill the requirement fr science majrs. Bilgy majrs must take BIOL 3450/3455 General Micrbilgy t meet the requirements. Students in Pre-Med, Pre-Dent, Pre-Vet, and Pre-PA prgrams shuld check the requirements f the respective universities t which they wish t apply, but in mst cases will need t take the curse fr science majrs. Tutring Center: HCC, Rm 431, Drp-In tutring allws students t wrk n assignments independently while having the pprtunity t have tutr assistance when needed. Peer tutrs are available Mnday thrugh Friday during designated hurs. Students are encuraged t drp by the Tutring Center t pick up a Drp-In Tutring Schedule that lists specific times and subjects. (Check the Drp-In Schedule regularly because times and subjects ffered may change during the curse f a semester.) Each time yu cme in fr Drp-In Tutring, yu must present a valid Dixie State Cllege student identificatin card t the receptinist. The receptinist will sign yu in and keep yur card until yu leave the Tutring Center. Instructr help sessin There will be a weekly ne hur help sessin (W, 5-6 pm) in which we will g ver exams and chapter review questins and als answer any ther questins. Academic dishnesty/academic integrity plicy : ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE 34.1 Cheating: Academic dishnesty in any frm will nt be tlerated at Dixie State Cllege, including but nt limited t plagiarism n written assignments, submitting ther persn's wrk as ne's wn, and cheating n exams r quizzes. Teachers at Dixie State Cllege may discipline students prven guilty f academic dishnesty by: 34.1.1 Giving a failing grade n the specific assignment where dishnesty ccurred, 34.1.2 Failing the student in the entire curse, 34.1.3 Immediately dismissing and remving the student frm the curse, and/r 34.1.4 Referring the student t Student Affairs, a cmmittee which may reprimand, place n prbatin, suspend, and/r expel the student. 34.2 Disruptive Behavir: Teachers at Dixie State Cllege have the right t manage the classrm envirnment t ensure a gd learning climate. Tward this end, teachers (r cllege security) may dismiss and remve disruptive students frm individual class activities. If a student's behavir cntinues t disrupt class activities, the teacher may dismiss and cause the remval f disruptive students frm their curse. 34.3 Student Appeals: Students wh believe themselves wrngfully disciplined may appeal thse disciplinary actins thrugh the standard grievance prcedure. Peer reviewed investigatins cnclude that less infrmatin is absrbed and retained when these devices are in use. If yur instructr bserves yu using a device, 10 pints will be deducted frm yur curse grade the first time, and again fr every time thereafter. 3

Frm a study grup (this will help mre than yu knw) Attend help sessins and/r cme see me fr help n a regular basis- dn t wait until the day befre an exam when it is t late fr much assistance. Examinatins: Exam frmat is varied and might include sme definitins, matching, labeling, fill-in-the blank, sketching, prblem slving, multiple chice, and shrt essays. The student is tested n the text readings and material cvered in lecture, hwever sme material may be taken frm the lab. Critical thinking questins will als ccur n tests in which the student is presented with a clinical situatin and asked t cme up with a slutin. Exams will be cmpleted in the testing center. Exams must be cmpleted during the hurs f peratin f the testing center. Pay clse attentin t listed testing dates. If the line is t lng and the testing center clses befre a test can be taken n the last day f the test, then the student will get a zer n the exam, s be there early r suffer. The testing center schedule can change, and it is the student s respnsibility t check hurs f peratin fr each exam. Grading: There will be 750 pints pssible fr the curse. 1) Unit Exams (500 pts.): Six Exams will be given cvering material in the textbk. The five best exam scres cunt tward the final grade since the lwest exam scre will be drpped. There are n make-ups f unit exams withut a dctr s written statement fr yur absence. All exams except the final exam will be administered in the testing center. 2) Final Exam (100 pts.): The final exam will be given in class in accrdance with the final exam schedule. It is cmprehensive and there is n makeup. Because finals are s imprtant, t take a final exam at any time ther than its scheduled time requires the apprval f the divisin Dean. Yu must take the final exam at the prescribed time in rder t pass the curse. 3) Hmewrk (150 pts.): Weekly hmewrk assignments will be given that will be wrth 10 pints each. They will be due and must be submitted by Saturday evening at 10:00 pm. Only partial credit will be given if the hmewrk is submitted after this time. Since these are extra credit quizzes, there will be n makeup quiz fr any reasn. 5) Final Grade: Yur final grade will be based n a pssible pint ttal f 750 pints (five highest exam scres, plus the final). At the end f the semester, any extra credit pints earned frm quizzes will be added in t determine yur final grade. Yur final grade will be based upn the fllwing grading standard.
