BRITANNICA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Friday 1 st, December 2017 NEWSLETTER Number 13 Dear Parents Another action packed week here at Britannica. This week our Year 1 and Year 9 students have taken part in various day excursions. Please read on for further details Budapest Marathon Fun Run With the snow upon us, the hot weather that accompanied the Budapest Marathon Fun Run six weeks ago seems a distant memory. However, this week we have been delighted to welcome Andrea Snow founder of the Seedlings Trust charity to both assemblies to receive the money raised by the 204 Britannica runners. This is the fifth time that the school has supported the event and the number of participants and the amount raised continues to grow. This year we raised an astonishing 448,000HUF. The money raised will go towards a third mini bus to help transport severely disabled children. To thank the students, staff and parents for their efforts, Andrea presented the school with a commemorative trophy engraved with the amount raised. Well done to everyone who took part. Brilliant Britannica We would like to invite all parents who are able to come and join our Christmas arts and crafts, charity fundraising community event on Friday 15th December from 1.50 to 4.30p.m. Please also read the letter that will be sent out in the week for further details regarding arrangements for primary and secondary students. The agenda is as follows. 13:40: Gates open for parents 13.50: Event begins 14.30: Musical interlude in Auditorium 15.30: Students dismissed as normal 16.30: Event ends for all vendors Orbital visit We were delighted to welcome our Regional Head of Schools, Karen Hammond, who visited the school last week. As part of our continuous quality assurance procedures, Karen visited classes, toured the school with the help of Alp in year 11 and Nanami in year 5 to look at the summer upgrades and worked with senior staff on key priorities. It was a busy two days! I am pleased to report that Karen was extremely pleased with the progress being made by students in their learning and the improvements to the facilities since her last visit. Reminders Interim Reports will be issued for Year 1-Year 9 students on, Friday 15th December. Year 10-13 reports will be issued after the mock exams early next term. School will finish for all students at the earlier time of 2:00p.m. on Wednesday 20th December. Secondary News We had yet again another action packed week in Secondary. On Monday, we had Careers Day, with guest speakers leading workshops for our KS4 and 5 students. The day kicked off with an Assembly, where Ms Klátyik, alumni and current students presented to Secondary on careers and career paths. Then, KS3 went back to class and KS4 and 5 joined the workshop leaders. Topics included MUN and Personal Branding, and many other interesting, career related speeches. Hopefully, our guests inspired our older students to think more deeply about their future careers. This week marked the end of Movember, with 51.000 HUF raised for charity. True to his promise, Mr Mallord dyed his tache green and purple, and many other staff members followed his example. On Thursday, Year 9 went on a trip to Vienna and visited the Schönbrunn Castle and the Christmas Market escorted by Ms Balanyi, Ms Erdélyi and Ms Pascual. The visit was also an opportunity to widen their linguistic horizon by taking part in MFL activities. Wishing you all a restful week end! Ms Zsófia Alibaux-Jakab Head of Secondary Word of the Week The Word of the Week is displayed in classrooms and around the school and is used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Dear Britannica Family, PSA News Season's Greetings to all of you and thanks to the Cookie Friday makers and sellers for their efforts on today's Cookie Friday. I know the children enjoy and look forward to each and every Cookie Friday! Brilliant Britannica (BB) will soon be upon us (15 Dec). We have solidified the vendor base and should have 14 vendors that will present their items for sale in the gym during the afternoon of BB. Also, both primary and secondary classes are busy preparing their items which will be for sale in the hallways and the gym (year 5 & 6) during BB. Please mark your calendars and come support our school as the children raise funds to support a local charity. The school will be disseminating final details and timings for the event in the near future. Enjoy the weekend and snow! On behalf of the Executive Board, thanks for all that you do, and remember to "Bring Your Passion". Respectfully, Ray Rabatin
