Radiography Program Information Packet A.A.S. Degree This Information Packet provides the prospective applicant with information about the Radiography Program admission process at MCCC and includes a: Petition for Radiography Program Admission and Point Score Worksheet Any person is eligible to begin coursework at Montgomery County Community College toward qualifying for admission to the Radiography Program A.A.S. degree; however, admission to the Radiography Program is highly competitive and requires the student to meet Special Admission Requirements as published in the College Course Catalog. Completion of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the Radiography Program. All applicants admitted must be able to meet the Radiography Program s Technical Standards found on the following website: http://www.mc3.edu/academics/areas-of-study/health-sciences/radiography/radiographyaas In addition, information concerning required hours for clinical education and program transfer information can be found on the above website. Applicants should view the following professional career video: https://www.asrt.org/content/recruitmentretention/recruitmenttools/career_videos.aspx 1

Montgomery County Community College Radiography Admissions Information The College offers interested applicants an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree with a concentration in Radiography. Upon completion of the Radiography Program the graduate is qualified to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national examination and seek licensure as a Registered Radiographer (RT) in any state in the nation. Changes in the curriculum and admission requirements for the Radiography Program may occur between the time the applicant applies to the College and the time of acceptance into the Radiography Program. Applicants must meet the requirements in place at the time of notification of acceptance and matriculation into the Radiography Program. Admission The Radiography Program offers acceptance to 12-14 applicants plus 4 Alternate applicants each fall semester. Each semester is 14 weeks (and one week of final examinations) in length. The availability of seats in each admission cycle is based on the availability of clinical learning centers provided to the College by area hospitals and other clinical sites. To be considered for acceptance, all Radiography Program applicants must meet the Program s Special Admission Requirements (Montgomery County Community College Course Catalog). BIO 131, BIO 132 and the math course requirement must be completed at the time of submitting the online Petition for Radiography Program Admission. (see page 64 of the college catalogue for more details) Applicants seeking admission to the Radiography Program are required to submit the completed online Petition for Radiography Program and will receive a confirmation email upon receipt. In addition, the applicant must be able to perform the Technical Performance Standards required in the curriculum http://www.mc3.edu/academics/areas-of-study/health-sciences/radiography/radiography-aas Completed petitions are accepted only online and during the following time frame for Fall admission: JANUARY 3 rd at 9:00 am through JANUARY 31 st at 4:00 pm Applicants are strongly advised to meet with a Student Success Center Advisor or Counselor before submitting the online Petition for Radiography Program Admission to verify completion of all Special Admission Requirements. Acceptance to the Radiography Program is highly competitive. Radiography Program admission decisions are made based on a point system and ranking procedure. Points are awarded based on number of required courses completed, courses completed at Montgomery County Community College, course grades, number of qualified Radiography petitions and year(s) of application to RT.GS (see attached Point Score Worksheet). 2

A total point score is used in ranking those applicants who submit the completed online Petition for Radiography Program Admission. Applicants with the highest total point score are ordered from highest to lowest and offered Acceptance seats in the Radiography Program until all seats are filled. In the event that there are applicants with the same total point score and one is a veteran, the veteran will receive priority in compliance with PA DOE Act 46 Higher Education Course Scheduling Preference for Veterans Students Act. In all other cases applicants with the same total point score are ordered by a recalculated GPA. In the event that there are applicants with the same total point score, applicants are ordered by GPA from highest to lowest. NOTE: GPA is determined solely on the grades earned in the completed non-clinical courses required by the Radiography Program s general education courses(current College Catalog). Transfer course grades and CLEP results are included in the calculation. Transfer credit earned without a letter grade (AP, military evaluation, challenge examination) are not calculated in the GPA. To allow for Program diversity, one seat may be used, at the discretion of the Program, for a qualified applicant having the potential for success in the Radiography Program who did not meet the cut-off for acceptance as described above. Academic diversity is characterized by a mix of students achieving in the high, average, and low range of acceptable academic performance as measured by the Program academic standards. All applicants who have filed a completed an online Petition for Radiography Program Admission will be notified of the decision (Acceptance; Alternate; Non-Acceptance) on or before March 20 th. The names of those applicants who receive a Non-Acceptance letter into the Radiography Program are removed from future consideration until the applicant re-submits an online Petition for Radiography Program Admission in a subsequent year. Each admission cycle 4 applicants are ranked according to the procedure described above and offered an Alternate letter. Applicants who receive such a letter are offered acceptance to the Radiography Program only if 1 of the ACCEPTED applicants declines their seat. Receipt of an Alternate letter does not guarantee entrance into a future admission cycle nor are applicants who receive an Alternate letter carried over to the next admission cycle. Should a seat not become available in the Radiography Program, those applicants in receipt of an Alternate letter must re- submit an online Petition for Radiography Program Admission. All applicants offered an Acceptance or an Alternate letter are required to respond in writing to the offer by a required date specified in the Acceptance letter. Failure to respond by this date results in loss of acceptance or pending acceptance into the Radiography Program during that admission cycle. Requests to defer acceptance are not considered. Accepted applicants who do not accept the offered seat or those who wish to defer admission must re-submit an online Petition for Radiography Program Admission. All applicants who receive an Acceptance or an Alternate letter and confirm their acceptance or pending acceptance in writing are required to attend a mandatory Radiography Program Orientation held by the Director, Radiography Program in the spring. This orientation provides information about the Radiography Program and its pre-matriculation requirements including CPR, malpractice insurance, physical examination, immunizations, drug screening, background clearances, uniforms, schedules, program expectations, introduction to radiation safety, etc. At this session, applicants in receipt of an Acceptance letter order uniforms required by the Radiography Program and complete the registration process for the fall semester. Failure to attend the Radiography Program 3

orientation automatically disqualifies the student for acceptance into the program. Note: In consideration of eligibility to sit for the national certification examination, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists regards the following as offenses that must be reported to the ethics committee: misdemeanor or felony offenses, including convictions or charges resulting in a plea of guilty, plea of nolo contendere (no contest), withheld or deferred adjudication, suspended or stay of sentence or military court-martial. A conviction that results in withheld adjudication, a suspended sentence, or subsequent expungement must be reported. Questions pertaining to this topic should be addressed with the Radiography Program Director and/or reviewed at www.arrt.org/ethics prior to Program application.
