Ranked 9th among the nation s best public universities U.S. News & World Report Forbes ranked UCI 10th among Best Value Schools, highlighting the top U.S. public universities for affordability and quality of education. UCI is ranked 39th among U.S. News & World Report s America s Best Colleges and features undergraduate programs listed in the top 50, including those in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and The Paul Merage School of Business. UC Irvine Health was named a top performer by The Joint Commission, the country s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations. UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County s only university hospital and Level I trauma center, has been ranked among the nation s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 16 consecutive years. More than 100 UC Irvine Health physicians are listed among the Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors Inc. which bases its selections on survey results from other physicians and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UC Irvine Medical Center is the only Orange County facility to earn the National Cancer Institute s prestigious comprehensive designation. World class. The 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities puts UCI 33rd in the U.S. and 58th globally. We re cool. UCI topped the list in Sierra magazine s 2016 Coolest Schools report, its annual sustainability ranking of U.S. colleges and universities. This makes seven years in a row that UCI has ranked in the top 10. The Sierra Club is one of the nation s most influential environmental organizations. UCI is in the top 10 of all U.S. universities for the number of undergraduate applications received, and in fall 2016, the campus admitted the most academically competitive freshman class in its history. A matter of degrees. UCI offers 90 undergraduate degree programs; 68 master s, M.D., Ed.D. and J.D. programs; and 50 Ph.D. programs. Continuing Education. UCI Division of Continuing Education (DCE) offers in excess of 3,000 professional development courses 3,000 annually, including more than 70 certificate, specialized studies and special programs. UCI s 173,000+ graduates include leaders in the arts, athletics, sciences, medicine, business, engineering, humanities, social sciences and education. Among them are three Pulitzer Prize winners and the architect of the HTTP/1.1 Internet protocol used worldwide. Ranked 16th among the nation s four-year colleges and universities delivering the most value by Money magazine, UCI was also highlighted as the No. 1 university for beach lovers and the seventh-best public university in the country. UCI s esports Arena is the first of its kind at a public university. Ranked the No. 1 school for gamers in 2015 by College Magazine, UCI boasts a computer game science major that s the nation s largest and part of a huge wave of new areas of study and employment, including game design and cybersecurity. From circuits and systems to software engineering and human aspects of computing, the Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences is the only ICS school in the University of California system. A Nobel purpose. Three UCI researchers have won Nobel Prizes: F. Sherwood Rowland, credited with saving the world by discovering that CFCs deplete the ozone layer; Frederick Reines, the renowned physicist honored for his co-detection of the neutrino; and Irwin Rose, a biochemist who did groundbreaking work on enzymes. Tomorrow s leaders. UCI s doctoral programs are among the best in the country, according to National Research Council rankings. The School of Physical Sciences is an area of particular strength, with all four programs chemistry, Earth system science, mathematics and physics & astronomy listed in the top quartile nationally. Other outstanding areas include neuroscience, anthropology, civil engineering and ecology & evolutionary biology. The minority report. Diverse: Issues in Higher Education ranks UCI seventh in the nation for awarding bachelor s degrees to minority students in the 2014-15 school year. The rankings are based on data submitted by institutions of higher education to the U.S. Department of Education. UCI ranks 30th in AffordableSchools.net s top 50 Most Entrepreneurial Schools in America, a list of universities that provide a supportive environment to spawn new businesses. Affordable excellence. UCI is No. 1 among U.S. universities that do the most for low-income students, says The New York Times. In the community. Humanities Out There is but one of UCI s nationally recognized service-learning programs. UCI academic preparation programs touch the lives of tens of thousands of K-12 students in California each year, and many serve as U.S. models. It s the law. In a 2015 study by the University of St. Thomas School of Law, the UCI law faculty ranked sixth in the nation for scholarly impact. The law school was joined in the top 10 by Yale University, Harvard University, the University of Chicago, New York University and Stanford University. By the books. The UCI Libraries receives over 1.7 million visitors a year to its four facilities: Langson Library, Ayala Science Library, Grunigen Medical Library and Libraries Gateway Study Center. The Paul Merage School of Business MBA programs consistently rank among the best in the world, and the school is No. 1 for employing the highest percentage of female faculty (46 percent), according to the Financial Times. Three UCI graduate programs and specialties are among the nation s top 12, according to U.S. News & World Report: literary criticism & theory (3), criminology (4) and organic chemistry (12). U.S. News also ranked UCI s online program for a Master of Advanced Study in criminology, law & society the top online graduate criminal justice program in the country. Fueling growth & prosperity.
