EEOC DISTRICT, FIELD, AREA AND LOCAL OFFICES The field offices of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are managed by the Office of Field Programs. There are four types of field offices: district, field, area and local. Although there are some differences in the functions each performs, they all accept charges of employment discrimination on the grounds of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability. In addition, District Office and Field Offices: conduct systemic investigations and settlements; carry out litigation within the federal court system through the activities of a legal unit; review, evaluate and monitor affirmative employment efforts of federal agencies within their geographic jurisdictions; conduct hearings for federal employee complaints, under the statutes, when requested; District offices oversee and administer the worksharing agreements between the Commission and state and local Fair Employment Practice Agencies (FEPAs) and between the Commission and Tribal Employment Rights Organizations (TEROs). Field, Area and Local Offices function under the direction of the District Offices. Litigation for Area and Local offices is conducted by the District in which they are located. The Washington Field Office functions, for the most part, as a District Office, although it does not have a legal unit. X - 1
