Orientation Days We would like to thank all parents, guardians and students who attended the Orientation Days at the new campus on Friday, 23 August 2013 and Saturday, 24 August 2013. At these sessions, parents and guardians were briefed by the Director of Schools on the school s new layout plan, traffic flow and other new guidelines that are being implemented in the new term. They were also given the chance to explore the new campus using the layout plan distributed to all visitors by the guards at the entrance. Parents also took the opportunity to do some last minute shopping at the bookshop that was opened on the two days.
New Rules & New Regulations Traffic Flow Since Monday 2 nd September 2013, we have been trying to deal with the traffic flow for drop off and pick up of our students. Finally after much stress and strain, we have arrived at a system that sees traffic clearing 20 minutes after dismissal. The system is as follows :- (Refer to Map attached) Drop off : 3 points - i. Early Years - Early Years students (Nursery/ Reception/Yr 1 & 2/ KSSR 1 & 2 ii. Block B - for both Primary & Secondary students iii. Block D - only for Secondary students Pick up : 3 points - i. Early Years - only for Early Years students ii. Admin Block - for KBSR & all Secondary students iii Block B - only for Tenby International Primary (Secondary students with siblings will be picked up together with their younger siblings at the younger sibling s pick-up point.) To help ease the traffic flow we suggest a few guidelines for all parents / guardians to follow :- Please come in only at dismissal time and not earlier. Some parents are coming in at 1.30 pm to park in the school to wait for their children s dismissal at 2.40 pm or 3.00 pm and this has caused a jam along our narrow roads. Please print out on A 4 size paper the name of your child and place the paper on the dash board so that our teachers on duty can get your child ready for pick up. If your child is not around for the pick-up please exit the gate and come in again to pick him/her up. This will prevent a jam in the school grounds and help ease traffic flow. For secondary & A Level students we are allowing mobile phones to be brought in and used after school to contact parents/guardians to facilitate their pick-up arrangements. These mobile phones cannot be used during school hours from 8.00 am 3.00 pm and students are fully responsible for their safe-keeping. Parents who wish to wait for all their children to be picked up will need to park their cars at the visitors car parking bay and wait at the Main Admin lobby. There are limited parking bays within the school compound so please do not park at the bays designated for staff. New Cafeteria The Cafeteria is solely to cater to the staff and students of the school. Parents are not allowed to use it as a food court while waiting for their children s dismissal. The guard will blow his whistle at 8 am as a signal that all parents should be leaving the school grounds. The school has taken note of some of your feedback regarding the quantity, quality and cost of the food served and the operator will be making the necessary adjustments in the weeks to come. Please remember you can preorder your child s meals. The order form and menu are available from the school s website (under downloads) and also at the canteen after school hours. Upon payment directly to the canteen, a card will be issued to your child for use during the week/month of the preorder. PA Volunteers Mrs Teh and Pn Mel helping at the school s cafeteria.
Circular - IIS.902.2013 Notice to parents with children in Early Years With effect from Monday 9th September 2013, all early years children will be escorted to class by teachers on duty every morning. This is the same practice as in our Early Years Centre Ipoh International School. By dropping off your child, he/she will develop independence and not be anxious about going into their classrooms. It is a step to help them settle in to a daily school routine. Similarly it will prevent parents from parking at inconvenient spots which may disrupt the traffic flow. Lastly, if you wish to speak to a teacher, please use the student planner or make an appointment beforehand with the office. This will prevent parents from interrupting the teachers teaching time or supervision of children. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Solving Our Short-Term Traffic Challenges As we are particularly concerned about the situation on Friday, when many parents and students will wish to leave the school in a timely manner in order to fulfill their religious observances, we are proposing a different approach to the traffic congestion issue on a trial basis. As from the morning of Friday 6th September, students of the secondary schools will be allowed to bring mobile phones to school, so that they are able to contact their parents (and vice versa) to make sure that they are ready and waiting at the collection point, at the front of the administration building, so that they can be quickly picked up and driven home as respective parents or drivers arrive. This trial scheme is, however, subject to certain strict rules that students are required to obey, and these are as follows: Mobile phones are not to be switched on or used until school ends at 3pm on Mondays to Thursdays, or 12.50pm on Fridays. If mobile phones are in use or switched on at other times, then the phones will be confiscated, as they are currently a prohibited item for students in school. At the end of school, all senior students should make their way quickly to the collection point and wait for their parents/drivers. Once at the collection point, students can call their parents (and vice versa) to confirm at what time they are approaching the school gates, so that their son/daughter is sure to be waiting and ready for collection. Students must not leave the collection point unless they have been in contact with their parents and know that they will not be collected on time. Student mobile phones are only to be used for calling their parents/drivers and not for other use. We hope that this trial process will prevent cars having to drive around the school site thereby adding to the congestion because their children are not waiting for them when they arrive. If this process does not achieve the desired results, or if students abuse the phone use rule, then we do have other solutions that we may try, until the second entry/exit point can be used, which we hope will be permissible by the end of this month. Students also need to realize that last year the Prefect Board asked the school to review the rule that forbids bringing mobile phones to school. This trial process to, hopefully, solve our shortterm traffic problems, also provides an opportunity for senior students to demonstrate that they can be trusted to use mobile phones in an appropriate way, so that school rules may perhaps be reviewed and amended on a more permanent basis. We are hopeful that, if both students and parents follow these rules strictly, then we can go a long way to prevent the traffic gridlock that occurred today. We must work together, and we all thank you for your cooperation and assistance to date in solving our common problem.
