SYLLABUS AND TEXT The course follows the international standard curricula for math olympiad, which covers four major topics: Algebra, Combinatorics, Number Theory and Geometry. Algebra includes solutions of equations, inequalities, functions, sequences, and polynomials. Combinatorics includes bijective proof, counting principle, pigeonhole principle, binomial coefficients and principle of induction. Number Theory includes primes and divisibility, modulo arithmetic, numerical functions, and Diophantine equations. Geometry includes topics on plane geometry, including collinearity and concurrence, circle, triangle, and quadrilaterals. The classes will be conducted by Mr. Suhaimi Ramly, the Malaysian national team coach for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). He has been involved in math olympiad since 1998, and was selected to represent the country in the IMO three times in 1999 (Bucharest, Romania), 2000 (Taejon, Korea), and 2001 (Washington DC, USA). He won the OMK twice with perfect score, and was the first Malaysian to win an IMO Bronze Medal in 2000. He is the leader of the Malaysian team to IMO 2009 (Bremen, Germany), 2010 (Astana, Kazakhstan) and 2011 (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and served in the IMO International jury for all three years. He heads the committee that set the OMK contest problems. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, which has one of the world s top math departments. A group of facilitators will help run the course. They are former and current team members of the Malaysia IMO national team. The textbook that will be used throughout the course is Basics of Math Olympiad (Volume 1-4) and MRSM Mathematical Olympiad 2007-2010 by Mr. Suhaimi Ramly. In addition, we will provide daily handouts and problem sets for the students.
