Asheville School Admission Criteria Admission is competitive. Asheville School receives more applications for admission than there are spaces available. The Admission Committee evaluates a student s academic and personal qualities in formulating a recommendation to the Director of Admission. Ultimately, the Director makes a final decision whether to accept, accept with some conditions, defer, wait-list, or decline the applicant. Specifically, the Committee considers the following criteria: Interest The student must want to attend. We look very carefully at the student s motivation for attendance. The parents may have introduced Asheville School, but the prospective student must view the experience as an opportunity and must participate in the decision to enroll. Citizenship The student must be a good citizen. We must have high confidence that the student will honor our expectations. We do not accept students determined to be social or behavioral risks. Scholarship The student must possess the aptitude and motivation to succeed in a challenging college preparatory curriculum. We look closely at the student s ability, but we look just as closely at the student s openness to instruction and willingness to complete work. Most of our students have been high achievers in their previous school environments. Involvement The student must be someone who will be involved in the life of the school. Athletics, the arts, mountaineering, clubs, and publications lend Asheville its personality. We seek students who will contribute energetically to at least one area, or more commonly several areas, of school life.

Asheville School Admission Dates Early Decision Early Decision applications are binding. Applicants who are accepted agree to enroll in Asheville School and withdraw all applications to other schools. Applicants requesting financial aid may not apply for Early Decision. December 10 - Completed Application Due January 10 - Notification of Admission Decision February 1 - Deposit and Reservation Agreement Due Regular Decision All Financial Aid applicants must apply for Regular Decision. February 1 - Completed Application Due March 10 - Notification of Admission Decision April 10 - Deposit and Reservation Agreement Due Financial Aid Statement The Parents Financial Statement (PFS) must be completed and sent to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Pittsburgh, PA, to be processed by February 1. Online Go to sssbynais.org, and follow the instructions. Submit copies of your 2016 W-2(s) and 2016 federal tax returns (1040s) by February 15 to SSS. SSS will process W-2s and 1040s as well as PFS forms. The goal is to make it easier for you to send all the required documents to SSS instead of to multiple places. SSS will then distribute tax forms to all schools to which you have applied. NOTE: You must submit all pages of your 2016 tax return. If you submit only the first two pages, your financial aid application will NOT be complete. Rolling Decision Applications will continue to be considered after February 1, on a space-available basis. Historically, financial aid has not been available to students applying after the February 1 admission deadline. Comeback Day April 1, 2017 All Early Decision and Regular Decision accepted students and their parents will be invited to attend a special day at Asheville School. Comeback Day is designed to give accepted students a chance to meet prospective and current students and parents, to learn more about academic, athletic, and social life at Asheville School.

Admission Balance Policy Asheville School s Board of Trustees set an admission policy that Asheville School will maintain a balance of 80% boarding students and 20% day students with enough flexibility to permit Asheville School s balance to become temporarily 75% boarding and 25% day. Tuition Fees Asheville School s tuition and fees are very competitive with our other peer institutions. A healthy endowment and successful annual giving program help us maintain reasonable pricing and still provide our students the very best in secondary education.
