IB Enrollment Agreement International Baccalaureate Mission Statement: The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. Diploma Program Enrollment Requirements: Acceptance into the full IB Diploma Program as a pre-ib student is dependent upon how well rising ninth- and tenth-grade applicants meet the background recommendations with respect to coursework and grades for each course in the pre-ib sequence. Pre-IB and IB students grades in all coursework will be re-evaluated each year prior to scheduling for the next year. Students who fail to meet background recommendations with respect to grades for one or more courses, may be counseled to reconsider the IB Diploma Program. In addition to maintaining their academic studies, students enrolled as IB Diploma Candidates in the 11 th and 12 th grades must show consistent, sustained progress in the two independent core requirements: Extended Essay and Creativity-Activity-Service. If a student fails to demonstrate sufficient progress toward these requirements (including meeting school-based deadlines), he or she may be counseled to reconsider the IB Diploma Program. Students are expected to maintain personal integrity in conduct and work habits by following the expectations of the SCPS Code of Conduct and the honor code of the school, as well as by adhering to the Academic Honesty Policy of IB. A breach of academic honesty may result in removal from the IB Diploma Program. Additional Agreement Items: Academic expectations and grading standards in both pre-ib and IB courses are high; homework and independent study are mainstays for success in these courses. Assessments such as tests, papers, and presentations make up a large percentage of the students grades in these courses. IB students must be self-motivated and possess or acquire good time management and organizational skills. They are expected to actively strive to embody the characteristics outlined in the IB learner Profile. Students and parents must recognize that parental involvement and support are crucial to a student s success in the IB Program. Parents may be required to attend some meetings with the student. Students with special assessment needs must provide documentation with this application so the IB Coordinator can determine suitable arrangements for both teaching and assessment. All International Baccalaureate students are full time students of Spotsylvania High School. The IB Coordinator handles the transfer request from zoned school to Spotsylvania High School where applicable. Transportation: Morning transportation from zoned high schools to Spotsylvania High School will be provided. Afternoon transportation from Spotsylvania High School to zoned schools will be provided. Buses will depart SHS at 2:20 pm for those students who do not participate in afterschool activities. Parents may pick their students up at their zoned school or directly from Spotsylvania High School. Parent/Student Agreement: We understand that enrollment in this program constitutes our understanding of and commitment to this IB enrollment agreement. Parent/Guardian: Date: Student: Date:
