If an online Item Bank, AKO, or Express assessment includes one or more Constructed Response items, the students responses must be scored within the SchoolCity Suite. This document will explain how to score an online Constructed Response, how to print the students responses, and how students can review their score in the Student Portal. 1. From the Top Menu Bar, select Assessments (1a). Find the desired assessment from the list in the Assessment Manager. Select the bolded Score Online icon (computer) (1b). Note: The Score Online icon will be bolded once the students submit their online assessment for scoring. Or, from the SchoolCity Launchpad, select the SCORE or ONLINE Flip Card (1c). On the reverse side, select Score constructed response items. Find the assessment you wish to score or click on More to go to the Assessment Manager (1d). 2. View the Score Online Constructed Response Items screen: Note: CR items can only be scored within the testing window. a. Assessment Name, Subject, and Roster Year. b. Change Assessment: Click on the down arrow to select a different assessment. c. Filter students by Period, if appropriate, then click Refresh. d. Tabs for score By Student (default setting), By Item (See Step 6), By Groups (See Step 7), if any have been created in the Group Manager, View Student Notes (See Step 8), if any were made by students in the Student Portal while testing, and Score Review (See Step 9), a preview of how students have performed on each assessment item. e. Show Incomplete: Click here to show the student responses that have not yet been scored. f. Current Student Name displayed. Use the drop down arrow next to the student s name to view the entire roster and select another student. g. Click on Prev to go to the previous student on the roster or Next to go to the next student. h. Save: Click Save after scoring each student s response to add the score to the student s assessment results. i. Full Screen: View the student response and teacher feedback text boxes full screen. j. Download icon: Export Student Answers to PDF and print (See Steps 10-11). k. Item #, Points Possible, Score box, and Item Details. l. Anchor Paper and Student Notes. (See Step 3) m. Copy to Feedback: Copy student response into Teacher Feedback textbox (See Step 4). Page 1 of 10
n. Teacher Scoring Rubric: Provided by Item Bank (See Step 5). AKO/Express Rubric (See Step 12). o. Student Response: View the written response from the student. p. Teacher Feedback (optional): Give feedback to students about their response (See Step 4). 3. Anchor Paper and Student Notes: Depending on the assessment type, an Anchor Paper may be available to use as a scoring guide. Students may write Notes for this item (or any item) as they complete the Constructed Response in the Student Portal. Click on the appropriate icon to view each. 4. Copy to Feedback: As an option, the entire student response can be copied into the Teacher Feedback text box. a. Click on the Copy to Feedback icon. b. Click on the Teacher Feedback button. c. View the Student Response in the Teacher Feedback text box. Write comments and use the CKEditor formatting tools as needed. Students will be able to review Teacher Feedback in the Student Portal if allowed to view the results of their assessment. (See Step 10) Page 2 of 10
5. Teacher Rubric: a. Click on the T icon to view the scoring rubric for this item. Note: The item banks provide a rubric for all CR items. CR Items created in the Work Space and AKO/Express assessments may have a custom rubric attached. b. Scroll up and down to view the rubric. c. Use the arrows in the bottom right hand corner to expand and/or reposition the window. d. Click the X in the upper right hand corner to close the rubric window. 6. View Student Responses By Item: a. Click on the By Item tab to view all student responses for this item. b. View the Teacher Rubric and Anchor Paper. c. Scroll down to view all students answers for this item. d. Click on Teacher Feedback to the far right of each student s name to provide feedback to that student. e. View Student Notes (if any) and Copy to Feedback (if desired). f. Enter student score. g. Click Save to include student score in Reports. Page 3 of 10
7. View Student Responses By Groups: If student groups have been created in the Group Manager, a group may be selected for viewing. a. Click on the By Groups tab. b. Use the drop down menu to select the desired group. Click Refresh to view results. c. Read and score the responses as described above. 8. View Student Notes: View notes students wrote and saved about items during the testing session in the Student Portal. a. Click on the View Student Notes tab. b. Student Name: Click Prev to go to the previous student; click Next to go to the Next student on the roster. c. View notes By Student (default shown) or By Item. d. Print Student Notes: Export to PDF and print. Include all items or only specific items, student note, item, and student name, then print by class or by student. Page 4 of 10
9. Score Review: See a preview of how students scored on all items on the assessment. a. Click on the Score Review tab. b. Student ID, Last Name. First Name, Items with score (0=incorrect, 1 or more =correct), Total (points earned/points possible), Percent Correct (blue bar graph). c. Item 8 is the CR Item being scored on this specific assessment. d. Student search box: Enter a student s first or last name, then click on the magnifying glass to view that student s results. e. Export results to PDF, Excel, or CSV. 10. Download and Print Students Reponses: Teacher Level User a. In the By Students tab, export the students responses to PDF format by clicking on the download icon on the right hand side of the screen. b. Select Items to Include: All items or only specific items. c. Select the Content to Include from the options shown. d. Select Print by Class or Print by Student, then click on Print. This will generate a PDF for printing. e. Return to Score Online. Page 5 of 10
11. Bulk Printing of Constructed Responses: District and School Level Users a. From the Assessment Manager, SCORE or ONLINE Flip Cards, find the assessment you wish to print. b. On the Score Online Constructed Response Items page, click on the download icon (Bulk Print PDF). c. Select Items to Include and Content to Include. d. Generate unique PDF file by School or by Teacher, then click Print. e. A message will appear confirming the bulk print request. Click Send to Bulk Printing or Cancel. Page 6 of 10
f. A second message will appear confirming that SchoolCity has received the request and is processing it. Click Take me to Bulk Printing or Exit. g. When the request is in process or has been completed, a number will appear next to the Bulk Print icon in the Top Menu Bar. Click on the icon. h. Click on the PDF Score Online CR Items tab. i. A request that has been received and is in process will display Received in the Status column and a gray download icon in the Functions column. j. A request that is ready to download will display Completed in the Status column and a green download icon in the Functions column. k. Any file may be deleted by clicking on the delete icon (trashcan). 12. Print from the Assessment Manager: Student responses can also be downloaded and printed from the Assessment Manager, both while the assessment is In Progress and when it is Closed. a. In the Assessment Manager, find the desired assessment and click on the down arrow on the far left in the Functions column. b. Select PDF Student CR from the drop down menu. c. Make selections for Items to Include, Content to Include, Print By Class or By Student, then click Print. Page 7 of 10
13. Online AKO/Express Assessments Score CR/SA (Constructed Response/Short Answer) Items: The process for scoring these items is basically the same as for an Item Bank assessment, with a few differences. The differences are: a. View the PDF of the assessment by clicking on the document icon (open folder). b. Teacher Rubric (optional): Created/uploaded by the author during the assessment creation process. c. Student Rubric (optional): Created/uploaded by the author during the assessment creation process. Students may view the rubric during the testing session. Page 8 of 10
14. Review Scores in Student Portal: In Advanced Settings, if Show Item Details in Student Portal has been selected as a property for an assessment, then students may view the results of that assessment, including their score and Teacher Feedback for a Constructed Response item. a. Before submitting their assessment in the Student Portal, students may view their response to the CR item by clicking on the Student Response box on the Review Summary screen. b. After the student clicks on Submit, the teacher can begin scoring the CR items. Once the item has been scored, the student may view the results. To access the scores from the Launchpad, click on the REVIEW SCORES Flip Card. On the reverse side, select the assessment to review. c. Or, click on Scores from the Top Menu Bar. d. Select View Result (in blue type) next to the desired assessment. e. Scroll down to the CR item, and view the score in the Score column. f. Click on the Notes icon (thought bubble) under Rubric/Notes to view the student s response and the Teacher Feedback. Page 9 of 10
