The ArtsFund luncheon is May 19. Commissioners discussed taking one month off for the summer; it was decided to cancel the July 11 th meeting. There was a motion: I move to take July off. Motion: Bill La Vergne Second: Antonio Edwards Marlette Buchanan from Pierce County has stepped down from her position. City Council and the Tacoma School Board proclaimed May to be Arts Education month in Tacoma. New Arts Commission member, Zach Powers, was introduced. 6. Staff Check-In 5:16 pm (12:17) City of Destiny Awards will be on May 10. Norm Dicks will be holding a reception on May 19 at Tacoma Art Museum. The next Washington State Arts Alliance meeting in Tacoma on May 25 will feature guest speaker Pat McCarthy. Todd Bressi and Thoughtbarn will be in town on May 23 25 to begin discussion with the community regarding the Prairie Line Trail public art plan. Review/Approval of Tacoma Murals Project Recommendations 5:48 pm (43:40) The selection panel for the Tacoma Murals Project reviewed applications and recommended acceptance of the following artists into the program: Liza A Brown, Kate Cendejas, Kevin Coats, Kenji Fullmer, Brian Hutcheson, David Long, Mary McFarland, Laura Ospital, Chelsea O'Sullivan, Natalie Oswald, Jessica Lee Piller, Marci Sanders- Arnett, Yvette Simone, Nina Tabares, Christopher Tirri, Glenn Tramantano, Shannon Wallace, and Janice Lee Warren Commissioners viewed the artists work samples and discussed the program. Discussion A. 2010 Annual Report and Council Coffee Preparation 5:54 pm (50:02) Commissioners reviewed the draft of the Annual Report and made suggestions for changes. They also discussed funding and spending. Commissioners discussed preparation for Council coffee meetings, including materials to bring and events to touch upon. B. AMOCAT Nominations 6:08 pm (1:04:32) Commissioners made and discussed the following nominations for the AMOCAT awards: Category: Community Outreach by an Artist Christopher Jordan Stella Haioulani Category: Community Outreach by an Organization Tacoma Art Museum Broadway Center for the Performing Arts Tacoma Symphony Orchestra D.A.S.H. Motion: Jan Brazzell Second: Antonio Edwards C. 10-year Recap and Blog 6:29 pm (1:25:08) Commissioners reviewed the list of major arts and cultural events that have taken place in Tacoma in the past ten years that they worked on in the April Commission meeting. It was suggested to amend the name of the AMOCAT award to be more indicative of its nature and prestige. 9. Report Back A. Surveys and Events Attended 6:37 pm (1:33:02) Commissioners reported their attendance and audience survey results at various events around the area.
