Assessment in Y7 Preparing students for linear exams Y7 Assessment week Week beginning 9 th October Exams in hall for English, Maths and Science A non verbal CATs test in a computer room Information to support the students will be shared in their PSHEE lesson. Information on the content of each exam and how to revise will be sent home.
The Non Verbal Test What does it test? Figure classification, figure analogies, figure analysis This is a measure of a student s ability to perceive relationships between numbers and symbols. It provides another perspective on how a child will approach different problems that is not dependent upon verbal reasoning (i.e. their ability to read and write in English)
Why is Non Verbal test useful? This gives us an alternative view of the current developed abilities outside of what has been taught in the curriculum It provides a perspective on how a child will approach different problems that is not dependent upon verbal reasoning (i.e. their ability to read and write in English) It is particularly relevant for Maths, Science, DT, Geography and Art
What can I do at home to help my child with their Non Verbal Reasoning Test? Explore local area and draw maps Name and describe the shapes of local architecture Encourage model making e.g. construction toys like lego Sketching and drawing to encourage judgement of length and perspective Puzzles and jigsaws
Figure Analogies A B C D E

Show My Homework For Parents Show My Homework is an online tool which allows students, parents/carers to see all set homework. Teachers publish homework on SMH and all tasks, resources and deadlines can be viewed by parents/carers and students. www.showmyhomework.co.uk The world's No. 1 online homework solution
Why are we moving to Show My Homework? 1. Two years ago we successfully trialled SMH with Year 12. We then trialled it with Years 10 and 13. The feedback from parents and students has been on the whole very positive. 2. We recognise that it can be difficult to record all homework tasks and instructions in planners. It can be difficult to keep track of lots of different resources and pieces of paper. 3. SMH allows teachers to attach additional support materials such as lesson PowerPoints to the homework task. This means you have everything you need to complete homework tasks and it saves printing out unnecessarily. 4. All tasks, resources and deadlines can be viewed by parents/carers and students. 5. The Show My Homework planner and app helps students organise their time.
Q. Do PINs change? A. No PINs never change. In case a user forgets their username or password, they can use the PIN to reset login details as it remains the same. Q. My child has forgotten their password. A. A student s PIN can also be recovered through the linked parent account. Simply login to see a Recovery PIN for each child. See the highlighted boxes below:
How do I view all of my children from my parent account? If you have more than one child at the school, they will appear on the same page. Log in to your existing account or sign up using one of the codes you received from the school. Next, go to Edit profile and use your additional parent code to link another student to your account.
Homework calendar Homework appears in the calendar as a block, stretching from the issue date to the due date.
Homework description In this view you can see a task s title and description, set and due dates and how it should be submitted. Helpful resources files and websites are displayed below the homework.
Show My Homework app
Has Show My Homework been a useful resource? Comments from Tapton students Yes, because its easier to know what to do rather than writing it in your own words in your planner where you can write the wrong thing. Yes, instead of trying to write my homework in my planner it is on SMH and has all the correct details. Yes, as there are attachments and more information than using your planner. Yes; some subjects give us extra help as they give us links, sentence starters ideas and PowerPoints. It s a lot easier to be able to see all the work you have to do and use the resources on the internet and access the sheets they set in one place quick and easy to check. Yes, I do my homework earlier and better because pf SMH because it s a constant reminder and I know exactly what the teacher wants from me. It s on an app, you can tick it off and it disappears, it says how long left and when its due. I don t have to write anything down It s easier to understand what to do and you can get extra help a lot easier If you re not in a lesson, you can still see the homework. Links to pages and helpful resources. Reminders of important dates e.g. exams and school trips. Adding homework sheets to print off; I always lose loose sheets if given in class. It s on my phone.
A work life balance for children An extra hour a day of television, internet or computer game time in Year 10 is linked to poorer grades at GCSE, a Cambridge University study suggests. The researchers recorded the activities of more than 800 14-year-olds and analysed their GCSE results at 16. Those spending an extra hour a day on screens saw a fall in GCSE results equivalent to two grades overall
Sharing Information on Progress 3 tracks throughout the year 2 of which will be data tracks in November and June 1 will include comments from each teacher about what went well and even better if in February See course outlines document
