January 2017 Dear instructors/mentors of glassblowing programs for high school students; We are excited to offer Expanding Horizons for a third year. This program is designed to offer exceptional high school glassmakers and their mentors the opportunity to continue development in the glass-working field. The course, from July 3 rd to July 8 th, 2017, will host six glass students and their mentors. The student and accompanying mentor will experience an immersive and exciting week filled with glass making lessons, demonstrations, museum tours, and special guest discussions. Travel, accommodations, and meals will be provided for students and mentors, in addition to the scheduled program, at no fee. Mentors will be responsible for the student outside of scheduled program hours and will be expected to room with students, as well as be present for all required program activities. This program is hosted at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass with generous support from the Robert M. Minkoff Foundation. Expanding Horizons aims to help guide students on the path towards a career in the arts while learning about glass at a world-class facility. It also fosters exchange between attending students, with opportunities to share techniques with peers. (Please see following page for program goals and highlights.) We invite you to nominate one or more students who you feel would be most promising in this unique program. One of the goals of this outreach program is to help assist students considered to be underserved. While this term is broad and can mean many things, we ask that you consider financial need in addition to talent and skill in your nominations. Along with your recommendation, the student(s) will be required to complete additional application materials. We encourage you to assist your nominee(s) through the application process. After listing your nominee(s), print the following information for him/her to complete with a parent/guardian. Please assist the student in scanning and submitting the completed documents. Application materials are due on March 31 st, 2017, and should be submitted by email to duncanam@cmog.org. Applications will be juried by representatives of The Corning Museum of Glass and the Robert M. Minkoff Foundation. Selections will be announced by May 15 th. If you have any questions or require an alternate method of application submission, contact Allison Duncan at 607-438-5117 or duncanam@cmog.org. We are excited to continue to offer this program and encourage you to help your student with this application. Sincerely, Amy Schwartz, Director of The Studio Corning Museum of Glass Andrew Page, Director Robert M. Minkoff Foundation
