Course Description This survey course focuses on the business management processes and the software products that are available to assist managers, entrepreneurs, and other business professionals in the successful accomplishment of their demanding jobs in a dynamic, global, and technology-driven business environment. The course is designed to review the latest software available to assist mangers in accomplishing the full spectrum of management functions to help them shift from old methods of managing to new methods using tools provided by computer technology. You only need complete your work by the due dates posted for the assignments and tests. If you fall behind in your studies or have questions, email the instructor to get your questions answers. Emails!!! - In an online class, it is essential that you have a current email address in your MyCerritos account. Emails are often sent to the whole class. If you don't have a current email address in the school's computer, you won't receive the information you need for the class. To add or change your email address in the system, go to your MyCerritos account at http://my.cerritos.edu. Also, most instructors teach several classes and probably won't know which class you are in, so when you send your instructor an email have the following information in the subject line: [class name] [your name] [reason for the email]. Backup copies - Make copies of all of your work and keep these copies until you see your final grade posted at the end of the semester. Save paper copies of your test answers. With the security programs on your computer, your ISP (internet service provider) security, and the schools email security, it is not surprising that emails occasionally don t get through these layers. If work is sent but it is not received, you will want copies of your work so you don t have to redo it. Designed for self-motivated individuals - Online classes are not for everyone. Due dates are posted in the syllabus for Chapter tests, assignments, and papers. They should be turned in by the posted dates. All tests will be taken online. You are welcome to work as far ahead as you would like. As a matter of fact, it is recommended that you do the work far in advance of the due dates. It is strongly suggested

that you get ahead of schedule and stay ahead. Student drops - Should you need to drop from the class, please email your instructor and perhaps there is an alternative plan that we can come up with that will keep you in the class and moving forward with your education. If we don't know why you need to drop, we can not help. But, if you have to drop for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to do the paperwork. "Pursuant to Title 5, section '58004 and Cerritos College Board Policy, it is the student's responsibility to participate fully in class(es), once enrollment is complete. However, should it become necessary to withdraw from class, it is the student's responsibility to either present a signed drop card to the Admissions and Records office" or drop using MyCerritos ( http://my.cerritos.edu ). Instructor drops - If you fall behind, you will be warned once and then dropped from the class. Drops are final. If something does come up and you need extra time to complete an assignment, contact your instructor prior to missing the due date. Cheating - Academic honesty/dishonesty policy is spelled out in the Schedule of Classes. Academic honesty is taken very seriously at Cerritos College. "Academic dishonesty is defined as the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for work by the use of any dishonest, deceptive or fraudulent means." Read and follow the school's academic honesty/dishonesty policy. Look around - From here, go to Syllabus, Lecture Notes, Tests, Assignments, and Grades. Take a look at what is there and familiarize yourself with the layout of the website. If you have any further questions after rummaging through the website, please feel free to email me. Get Started - Okay, now it's your turn. Because I've found that most people don't read long orientations, I've made mine as brief as possible. However, most of what you need to know is here. Assignments and Quizzes due date You are expected to submit your assignments and quizzes on the due date. For example if a quiz is due on April 21st, it means that you must have it submitted on of before April 21 at 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time. Any submission after the due date is considered late and you will only receive a net 50% credit. For example if you score 90% on a quiz and submit after the due date of April 21 at 11:59PM, you will receive a net score of 45%. If you are going to be late within reason (sickness or family situation), please email me at least 24 hours from the due date/time and I can waive the late penalty. The quizzes will be available to you from Monday to Sunday of every week, they must be taken during that window of time in order to receive full credit. Class Participation and Attendance - This counts for 36% of your grade, so ensure that you participate regularly in the discussion forum. Participation in graded as follow: 1. Answer each week's discussion question 50-100 words (10 pts) 2. Respond/comment/debate on your classmates postings. Your postings must be substantial, meaning that a simple I agree or Good answer Johnny would not suffice. A 30-50 words response with adequate support will be considered substantial. You can also ask a substantial

question or answering one from your classmate, this will contribute to your class participation as well. Each substantial participation posting is worth 2 points for a maximum of 10 points each week, totaling 20 points each week for participation. It is the responsibility of students to attend classes regularly. In our online forum, the student is expected to communicate weekly. This is achieved by submitting and/or completing weekly tests and assignments. When students have been absent due to illness, they should report to their instructor to explain the absence. You will be dropped if you missed 2 classes consecutively without notifying the instructor. In our online forum, this means if you do not submit any work for two consecutive weeks. The instructor will presume that you are no longer interested in the course and you may be subject to being dropped. Moreover, when the hours of absence exceed one more than twice the number of class hours per week, the students are considered to be excessively absent and are subject to exclusion from class. Removal from Online Class: A student may be involuntarily removed from a course due to excessive absences, inappropriate online chatting/email communication, disruptive behavior (after 2 warnings given), failure to meet prerequisite(s), or as a result of official disciplinary action (California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 55003). Campus police may be called to document disruptive online students. Online Classroom Management: disruptive student behavior will result in a 3-step progressive discipline and will be reported to, Gary Cain, the coordinator of judicial affairs. The first step will result in a verbal warning written, the second warning will result a written warning, and the third warning will result in a request for removal from course. All steps will be documented and reported to the coordinator of student affairs. Academic dishonesty: as defined by Cerritos College Board policy in the current Cerritos College Catalog and 2012 class schedule, will result in appropriate College level disciplinary and academic action. The Department of Business requires that students engaging in academic dishonesty receive a grade of "F" for the work. In addition, Department policy requires that all individuals engaging in academic dishonesty be reported to the Administrator of Student Affairs. Academic dishonesty takes place whenever a student attempts to take credit for work that is not his/her own or violates test-taking rules. Examples of academic dishonesty during test taking include looking at other student's work, passing answers among students or using unauthorized notes. Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSPS): Students with limitations due to a disability may receive support services and instruction from Disabled Student Programs and Services. Those students with mobility, visual, hearing, speech, psychological and other health impairments as well as learning and developmental disabilities are served.
