VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Change Management Simulation: Debrief Tools The Teaching Note provides an in-depth discussion of how to lead an effective debrief of the Change Management simulation. The purpose of this short video is to illustrate the debrief tools available to you in the simulation. The Class Summary tab contains tables and graphs of aggregate data across your class. The Overview screen provides a high level status of each run that has started. Every run is marked with: The date and time of the run (Note: these are recorded in Pacific time zone) The student s User name The Scenario played Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 1
The Game Status, including o o o The Critical Mass threshold set for that run Whether that run was completed, and Weeks used Seven runs are listed on screen, but you can navigate to see more runs. By default, runs are sorted by date with the most recent at the top, but you can sort by other parameters and in ascending or descending order by clicking the arrows at the top of each column. There are a few ways you can filter this information. Using the collapsible filter box, you can search to find a particular student, or use the dropdown menu to filter results for a specific scenario. Use the checkboxes to see checked or completed runs. All of this information can be copied to your computer s clipboard for further analysis. Click on the Copy to Clipboard icon, open a spreadsheet program such as Excel, and paste the data wherever you d like. The table also offers some other helpful actions: The View Run link launches the student s view of the run. Click the link at the bottom of the screen to Go Back to Facilitator, to return to the Overview screen. View Details links to the Run Details admin screen with that user s run selected. Note that as an administrator, you can choose to delete any run by clicking on the delete link in the right hand column. The simulation is designed for students to play each scenario only once, but deleting their run will allow them to restart that same scenario from the beginning. You can also delete multiple runs at a time by selecting the Delete all checked runs or Delete all runs at the top of the table. To prevent accidental deletions you will be presented with a confirmation window. Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 2
The Lever Distribution screen shows the distribution of lever categories used in a run. These will always add up to 100% no matter how many weeks have been used. Again, you can sort and filter to see specific runs. Click View Run to see the student s view of that run. Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 3
The Final Results screen provides two ways to view the Final Results Data of all completed class runs. View Data shows a table with the following info for each run: Date, User, and Scenario played Adopters gained Weeks used Credibility scores, which include The CER, or Change Efficiency Ratio, which is calculated by dividing advocates gained by weeks used (a higher ratio indicates greater success) and Percent, the percentage of levers that were pulled with sufficient credibility Finally, Disruptive Percentage, reports the percentage of levers that were pulled in the correct phase. View Graph provides pie charts for each scenario showing the percentage of users who achieved critical mass in that scenario. Only scenarios played by your class will be presented on this screen. Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 5
The Run Details screen offers the opportunity to review individual runs in more detail. Select the run by using the User and Runs drop-down menus. The table lists all submitted decisions in that run, including: the week the lever was used, credibility of the change agent in that week, targets chosen for that lever, effect on the organization (or the number of people who moved into a new stage of adoption), an explanation of Reason Failed (if the lever was unsuccessful), and the total influence points earned with that lever. If the lever was ineffective, the influence points will be zero. Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 6
Clicking on View Decision History will bring you to the Decision History screen, which will mirror the student view, but will also include the Reason Failed explanations. Click the link at the top of the screen to leave this view and Return to Run Details. This concludes our overview of the tools available in the simulation for debriefing. Please refer to the Teaching Note for a more in-depth discussion of how to structure your class debrief. Copyright 2013 Harvard Business School Publishing. Page 7
