Streaming Process is based on: BUKIT VIEW SECONDARY SCHOOL SECONDARY 2 STREAMING 2017 FAQs Merit Overall Academic Results Secondary 2 Assessment Results (CA1/SA1/CA2/SA2) Overall Percentage Streaming Criteria Performance of whole cohort Order of choice of options Teacher s Recommendation Student s Aptitude Number of students opting for the subject combination Sec 2 Streaming Exercise Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Note: It is important that both the parents and child spend some time to discuss the subject combination/elective subjects to be chosen. It should be based on the child s interest and results as the streaming process is based on several criteria including overall results and choice. Q1. When can the Sec 2 students opt for the streaming exercise? A pre-option exercise will be carried out after Mid-Year Examination. The exercise will be carried out in October 2017. Parents are advised to make holiday plans overseas after the release of results (17 November 2017). Q2. How do the students exercise their option? Students will log onto the online streaming portal to exercise the option. Details will be given out at a later date. Q3. What are the subjects which students must pass to qualify for admission to JC or Polytechnic? The details can be found in the Student Handbook. Alternatively, do go onto the relevant websites for detailed information. https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/defaultsource/document/education/admissions/jae/files/2017-jae-information-booklet.pdf Q4. Is Additional Mathematics a compulsory subject for admission into JC or polytechnic? No, polytechnic admission only requires L1 and 2 relevant subjects and 2 other best subjects. For engineering courses, the relevant subjects must include the Mathematics and Science subjects, depending on the choice of study. The Mathematics could be either Elementary Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, whichever has a better grade. Same criteria apply for JC unless the student wants to pursue a Science course. In fact, for JC and polytechnic admission, students can opt not to continue with their Mathematics. Q5. Can a student change his / her option after he / she has exercised the option online before the deadline? Yes, the student can log in to opt again before the deadline. The latest option saved in the database would be used for the streaming exercise. 3

Q6. What are the factors to consider if my child/ward would like to get into an 8- subjects class? The school will rank the students according to their results for overall percentage, Science and Mathematics. Thus, it is advisable that your child/ward should score at least 70% and above for his/her Science and Mathematics in Secondary 2. He/she should have a good grasp in Algebra and show great interest in Mathematics. Q7. What are the chances that my child/ward will be allocated the combination/ elective subject that he / she wants to study in upper secondary? The school uses the overall percentage to stream the students into different classes. It is important that your child / ward makes his / her choice based on his / her results and his/her interest. For the elective subjects, your child must have interest in the subjects that they are choosing, especially coursework subjects, like Design and Technology. Q8. If my child / ward is not allocated the combination/ elective of his / her choice, can we appeal? Yes. You can obtain the appeal form from the General Office. Please take note that you need to submit the appeal form to the school by the stipulated date. We regret to inform you that late submissions will not be considered. Q9. What is the success rate of appeal? The success of appeal cases is dependent on several factors. Your child / ward will only be considered for appeal if a student withdraws from the particular combination/ elective subject and if your child/ward is next one on the list to study the combination/ elective subject. In addition, our class size is constrained by the school s facilities and resources e.g. Science Lab and Computer Lab. Q10. Who can I contact should I need further clarifications? Name E-Mail Contact Mrs Irni Prasad (HOD Mathematics) irni_karen_mohd_zaini@moe.edu.sg Mr Ng Wuay Boon 65605807/ ng_wuay_boon@moe.edu.sg (HOD Science) 65661990 Mr Heng Chong Yong (HOD Partnership) heng_chong_yong@moe.edu.sg Q11. What are the subject combinations for Sec 3 in 2017? More details will be shared at a later date. Subject Combination offered in 2017 can be found in the Student Handbook. The school reserves the right to make changes. 4
