The process includes a general application form, submission of by-laws or a constitution and providing documentation of student interest. Any event sponsored by a student organization where alcohol is to be served must be approved through a formal process through the Office of Student Programs. An event will only be approved if applicable university policy and responsible hosting strategies are met. All major off-campus events of a social nature are sponsored by the MUSC Student Government. These events are all managed and monitored by designated university personnel including Student Programs Office Staff and MUSC Public Safety. To date, no adverse events have occurred at any of the events sponsored by any university-wide student organization. In the event an adverse event occurs, it is a practice of the MUSC Student Government to report any adverse event made by a student attending an event sponsored by the MUSC SGA to the MUSC Behavioral Support and Intervention Team (BSIT). It is recommended that all other university-wide student organizations adopt the same practice.

College of Health Professions: If a social organization or class of students (e.g., first year students in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program) wants to host a class activity off campus where alcohol will be served, the class liaison or appointed officer of the group is required to complete the MUSC Approval Form for Student Events where Alcohol is served. These forms are reviewed and approved in writing by our Director of Student Life and maintained in the Student Life Office. We make students aware of all MUSC student policies in the MUSC Student Handbook at new student orientation. We do not have a policy that requires reporting of adverse events at these functions beyond what is required by the Clery Act. College of Pharmacy: Each student organization has an assigned faculty advisor. They are responsible for working with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to oversee the activities (professional, social, fund-raising) of the organization. The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs meets monthly with the Presidents and of all student organizations to discuss planned activities. All social activities involving alcohol must be approved through the Dean s office. The students must follow the responsible hosting guidelines developed by the University when planning and executing these events. All fund-raising activities must be approved through the Dean s office. All professional development activities are reviewed, approved and overseen by the faculty advisor and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and other pharmacy professionals when needed. The COP is unaware of any adverse events that have occurred related to one of our student groups, so we have never had to address this issue. College of Dental Medicine: Prior to the hosting of an event by any organization, the student leader must complete a form, and get it approved by the faculty advisor of the organization. The form is then reviewed by the CODM Deans Office for approval of the event. The CODM Deans Office may require certain changes in the planned activities of the event, prior to approval. We do require the report of any adverse occurring. We consult with MUSC Public Safety and MUSC legal counsel for guidance. We report all matters required by the Clery Act on an annual basis. We also review events and activities prior to approval of monies raised through the MUSC Health Sciences Foundation to ensure adherence to MUSC s Conflict of Interest Policy. College of Medicine: Both the Associate Dean for Student Career Planning and Manager of Student Affairs have oversight of all administrative activities and serve in an advising capacity for all organizations. Should an adverse event occur and the Associate Dean for Student Career Planning and Manager of Student Affairs are notified, the incident(s) is reported to the Associate and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. All interest groups/organizations must complete an application to become recognized as an official organization by the College of Medicine Student Council. Once recognized and confirmed as active, each group is required to submit an annual report that includes yearly activities, events, and collaborations. The College of Medicine Student Council organizations and interest groups follow the event protocol set forth by the Office of Education and Student Life, Student Programs office. The Associate Director of Student Programs provides an annual training to the College of Medicine Student Council.
