REGULAR MEETING BOARD OF EDUCATION INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 206 ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA FEBRUARY 24, 2014 The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 206, Alexandria, Minnesota, was called to order by School Board Chair Dean Anderson at 7:00 p.m. in the District Office Oak Conference Room, Alexandria, Minnesota. School Board Members Present: Angie Krebs, Jean Robley, Dave Anderson, Dean Anderson, Pam Carlson and Sandy Susag. Absent: Alan Zeithamer Administrators Present: Terry Quist, Judy Backhaus, Julie Critz, Trevor Peterson, Jill Johnson, Rebecca Patience, Lisa Pikop, Susan Scarborough and 8 visitors. CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL OF MINUTES DISTRICT CLAIMS AND FINANCIAL REPORTS EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENTS RETIREMENT AGREEMENTS Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Krebs, to approve the Consent Agenda as follows: To approve the minutes of the regular meeting held January 27, 2014. To accept the financial reports and to ratify the payment of the January 2014 claims. LEAVES OF ABSENCE ADD POSITION DONATIONS AND GRANTS To approve the following leaves of absence: Child Care Leave of Absence Heather Good Child Care Leave with projected due date of April 27, 2014 end of the year. Medical Leave of Absence Christina Kohout Unpaid medical leave beginning 2/20/2014 through the end of the year. Other Leave of Absence Jeanne Frederick Social Worker, requesting a 5 year extended leave effective beginning 8/26/2014 8/27/2019. To approve adding the following positions: Academy Coach Custodian/AAHS Technology Assistant/AAHS 6 th grade activity/advisor co-curricular positions Additional teaching positions (1.95 FTE) Study Hall para positions/aahs (3 FTE) To approve the following resolution: RESOLUTION FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT 206 TO ACCEPT DONATIONS AND GRANTS WHEREAS, the District 206 School Board encourages the support of the district s educational programs through the funding and support of grant opportunities and donations that meet the goals and objectives of the district; WHEREAS, the district will control and maintain all grants and donations to ensure that the interests of all students are met; WHEREAS, the grants and donations listed below have been reviewed and approved by the administration of School District 206; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 206, State of Minnesota, to accept the following grants and donations: 1. Alexandria Girls Hockey received a donation totaling $1,529 from Lakeland Manufacturing for ice time. 2. The District 206 Quest program received a donation totaling $1,000 from the Bell State Bank Pay It Forward program to help offset program costs. 3. District 206 received a donation totaling $3,000 from the Alexandria Public Schools Education Foundation to sponsor the Student Showcase and help with publication of the Alumni Magazine.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES EXTENDED FIELD TRIPS 2014-15 PLANNING ASSUMPTIONS ADOPT REVISION OF DISTRICT POLICIES FIRST READING OF DISTRICT POLICY REVISIONS To approve the following fundraising activities: Girls Hockey Team Chili Feed, Silent Auction, Grocery Bagging and Puck Shoot, throughout the year, money raised will be used to offset the cost of the program. Jefferson High School DECA Host 9th Grade Girls Basketball Tournament, March 1, 2014, funds raised will be used to offset the cost of the program. JHS Service Learning Project, Empty Bowls Project (The Empty Bowls Project is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger) - March 25, 2014, all proceeds will benefit the Alexandria Food Shelf with a portion of matching funds from MN Food Share. To approve the following extended field trips: Jefferson High School FFA Students to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities from April 27 29, 2014 to attend the Minnesota State FFA Convention. Alexandria Marching Band to Oslo, Norway to perform in the Stabekk Schools Band s Centennial Festival Celebration from June 15-21, 2015. Jefferson High School FIRST Robotics Team to Duluth, MN for regional competition from March 5-8, 2014. To approve the 2014-15 planning assumptions as presented. To adopt the revision of the following District Policies: 419 Tobacco-Free Environment 422 Policies Incorporated by Reference 454 Staff Development 509 Enrollment of Nonresident Students To approve the first reading of the following District Policies: 406 Public and Private Personnel Data 414 Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Abuse 515 Protection and Privacy of Pupil Records Vote on Consent Agenda:

DISCTRICT TECHNOLOGY 1:1 INITIATIVE BEGINNING THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY PROCEDURE AND USAGE HANDBOOK FOR THE 1:1 INITIATIVE CHANGE TO DISTRICT 206 SCHOOLS BEGINNING/END TIMES BOUNDARY RECOMMENDA- TIONS MEMORANDUMS OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN DISTRICT 206 AND EDUCATION MINNESOTA ALEXANDRIA RESOLUTION DISCONTINUING AND REDUCING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS Motion by Susag, seconded by Carlson to approve the district technology 1:1 initiative beginning the 2014-15 year as presented. Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Carlson to approve the district technology Procedure and Usage Handbook for the 1:1 initiative. Motion Carried Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Robley to approve the changes to the District 206 s beginning/end times beginning with the 2014-15 year as presented. Motion by Susag, seconded by Dave Anderson to approve the boundary recommendations as presented. Motion by Dave Anderson, seconded by Robley to approve the memorandums of understanding between District 206 and Education Minnesota Alexandria regarding one-time exception to the use of personal leave. Motion by Robley, seconded by Dave Anderson, to adopt the resolution, as follows: RESOLUTION DISCONTINUING AND REDUCING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS WHEREAS, the School Board of Independent School District No. 206 adopted a resolution on January 27, 2014, directing the administration to make

recommendations for reductions in programs and positions, and WHEREAS, said recommendations have been received and considered by the School Board, BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 206, as follows: That the following programs and positions, or portions thereof, be discontinued: Agriculture Math Band/Orchestra Media K-12 Business/Marketing Music K-12 Elementary Education Music Lesson Instructor English/Language Arts Physical Education K-12/Health FACS Reading Intervention Gifted/Talented Science Guidance Social Studies Industrial Technology Special Education Instructional Visual Arts/Media Arts K-12 Coaches/Coordinators World Languages Learning Resource Teachers ADJOURNMENT ATTEST: There being no further business to come before the School Board at this time; the meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m /s/ Jean Robley Clerk /s/ Dean Anderson Chairperson
