ABOUT GUJARAT NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY Gujarat National Law University is a statutory University established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. The University is recognised by the Bar Council of India and the University of Grants Commission. The University functions as a nodal agency to uplift legal education in the State of Gujarat. The University offers teaching, research and training programme in law and inter-disciplinary fields such as Arts, Commerce, Science and Technology, Business Administration and Social Work at undergraduate and post-graduate level. It is the only National Law University which is offering integrated undergraduate law degree in five areas- B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), B.S.W. LL.B. (Hons.), B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), and B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.); full-time LL.M., MBA in Financial Management and Business Laws and Ph.D. in laws and other disciplines as recommended by the UGC as well as diploma/certificate courses in various areas. The University is emerging as a strong Research-based-Teaching University with regular publication of books, journals and write-ups by faculty and students alike. GNLU has a rich blend of knowledge and expertise. Hence, it has proved to be a converging place for professional and experts in various fields of knowledge. Thus, enriching the understanding of contemporary social issues and application of law to resolve socio-legal constraints and bring new innovative dimensions to existing problems. The University opted for a rigorous evaluation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission. The apex council of NAAC awarded the A grade for a period of 5 years up to 2021. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). ABOUT THE INDIAN SOCIETY OF CRIMINOLOGY The Indian Society of Criminology, which was founded in the year 1970 with the objective of advancing the study and application of Criminology and allied sciences for the welfare of society and facilitating co-operation among persons interested in studying crime as a subject. The Society attracted representative membership (presently 1400) spread all over the country and abroad of criminologists, psychologists, sociologists, judges, lawyers, police officers, correctional officers, forensic scientists, social workers and others interested in prevention of crime. The society has been seeking to attain its objective by organising annual conferences, periodical symposia and public lectures with themes of current interest in crime, its prevention and rehabilitation of the offenders, thus involving the people against crime and delinquency and also stimulating interest among the members of the criminal justice system in applying criminological approach to the problem of crime. In the previous annual conferences of the Society conducted at the Universities of various States and National Institutes, issues of national importance in the area of criminal justice system have been discussed with a view to assist the policy makers, legislators and law enforcement and correctional officers towards achieving an increased social defence. After conclusion of each of these conferences, the resolutions passed have been communicated to all the State Governments and the Central Government for their consideration and implementation. It is gratifying to note that the governments have been evincing keen interest in these recommendations and some of them have been implemented. 2

Criminal Justice Policies Police, Judiciary and other law enforcement agencies, Juvenile Justice and Criminal Justice Reforms. Prison Reforms Young offenders, Borstal Schools and other Correctional Programmes, Prisoners Rights, Community Based Treatment of Offenders including Probation, Parole, Community Services, Prison Industries, After Care Programmes, Community Participation, other alternative dispute resolution methods and other restorative justice approaches. Victim Jurisprudence Victims of Abuse of Power, Women, Child, and Elderly, Environmental crimes, Reporting Behavior of Victims. WHO CAN ATTEND This conference is aimed at educators, researchers, academicians and practitioners in the area of Crime, Development, Criminal Justice Policies, Social Sciences, Members from Judiciary, Police, Prison, Policy makers, Members from civil society and NGOs scholars from security industries and students. The conference will have a balance of lectures and presentations from the academic as well as the practitioners perspective and will have renowned speakers. It is aimed at creating a platform for a healthy exchange, debate and development of ideas and emerging issues in the area of Crime, Development and Criminal Justice Policies. 3

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Abstract The participants are requested to submit an abstract of a maximum 300 words in Microsoft Word document, Font style (Italicized) Times New Roman, Font Size 12, line spacing Single. The abstract may include keywords (maximum four). The abstract must include a clear indication of the objectives, methodology, major results, implications, and key references. All abstracts will be subject to blind review and only those abstracts approved by the reviewers will be selected to submit their complete paper for the final presentation. The criteria for evaluation by the reviewers are based on Relevance, Methodology and Originality. Participants willing to submit abstracts must fill the Abstract Submission Form (https//goo.gl/forms/nsekosbsscsdurzi2) and submit the abstract in.doc/.docx format to iscconference40@gnlu.ac.in with subject Abstract Submission by 1159 PM, 31st October 2017. Author details must also be mentioned in the body of the email. Author(s) must refrain from revealing their identity in any form in the abstract. Authors whose abstracts are selected will be intimated of the same by 10th November, 2017. Research Paper The authors whose abstracts are selected have to pay the registration fees by 10 th December, 2017 (for details about registration and fees refer to REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT DETAILS. The soft copy of the final research paper must be submitted in.doc/.docx and.pdf format to iscconference40@gnlu.ac.in by 1159 PM, 10 th December 2017 with the subject Research Paper Submission. CO-AUTHORSHIP There is no restriction on the number of co-authors. All such author and co-author(s) will have to mandatorily and separately register themselves by paying the requisite registration fees. At least one person amongst the author or co-authors has to be present for presenting the paper. Only those who are submitting the full paper can attend the conference and present their paper. POSTER PRESENTATION Apart from Paper Presentation there will also be poster presentation at the conference. For each theme, there will be a poster session to encourage detailed discussion with presenter. Interested individuals can register for poster presentation by filling the Registration Form (https//goo.gl/forms/8ormovtybxvzm5n72) and paying the registration fees. In case of more than one presenter, each co-presenter must register separately. However, an individual cannot participate in both paper presentation and poster presentation. The presenter needs to send the E-poster (.jpeg format) with the subject Poster Presentation to iscconference40@gnlu.ac.in by 1159 PM, 31 st October 2017 with the following details Title of poster and the relevant sub-theme Name of the presenter(s) Participant s affiliation Brief bio-data of the presenter(s) There will be review of the posters and after approval by the reviewers, selected posters shall be accepted for the final presentation at the conference. This acceptance will be communicated to the presenters by 10 th November 2017. The selected participants must then make online payment of registration fees (for details about registration fees refer to Registration and Payment Details ). The participants are supposed to carry the soft copy of their poster in pen drive. It is not mandatory to bring the hard copy of poster. However, if brought for display it should be of 80 x 100 cm dimension. The presenter should be present at his/her poster display area during the entire session to answer any queries and/or facilitate any exchange of ideas regarding their work being displayed. The presenter will be given 5 minutes to explain the poster, if required by the judges. The certificate will be issued only to the presenter and/or co-presenter(s) who attend the conference. AWARDS There shall be four awards for best paper presentations and two awards for best poster presentations. All these awards will be decided by the Organizing Committee and decision thereof shall be final and binding. 5

ISC BEST RESEARCH PAPER AWARDS The Indian Society of Criminology awards one Gold medal and one Silver medal for best research papers in the field of Criminology, Criminal Justice and allied fields. The Research paper must be based on scientific empirical studies carried out during 2013 December till 2017 December by young research scholars/students below 35 years of age. The research papers for the ISC Best Research Paper Award should reach the headquarters of ISC on or before 31st December 2017 to the following address or to the email iscprograms@gmail.com. PUBLICATION AND CERTIFICATE Selected peer reviewed papers will be published in a book and/or CD or both with ISBN, subject to the approval of the review committee setup by GNLU in collaboration with ISC. The decision of the organising committee will be final in case of any dispute/discrepancy. The certificate will be issued to the author(s) and poster presenter(s) who will remain present on all the days of the conference. For Presentation Certificate the author(s) must present his/her Research Paper before technical session chair(s). Certificates will be distributed after valedictory session. REGISTRATION & PAYMENT DETAILS Early Bird Registration for Paper Presentation (On or Before 20 November 2017) The acceptance of abstracts/ Posters will be intimated by 10th November 2017. There will be a discounted registration fee for authors paying the registration fees on or before 20th November 2017. Limited free accommodation available for 100 participants at the University campus only on first come first serve basis. Registration fees once paid will not be refunded. No TA/DA will be paid by the organisers or the University. The days of booking shall be counted as mentioned conference dates only. Additional stay would be chargeable on prior intimation to the Organising Secretary. ACCOMMODATION The participants are requested to inform and book the accommodation well in advance as limited accommodation at the University campus is available on first come first serve basis. Whereas the arrangements for the accommodation outside GNLU campus for the delegates will be made in Hostels, Guest Houses and Hotels on their requests and the charges will depend on the type of accommodation and availability. Delegates desiring official deputation to the Conference may kindly write to the Organising Secretary, giving the details about the authorities to be addressed in this regard. 7

LIST OF HOTELS There are many hotels available near the University. The per day prices range from Rs. 400/- to Rs. 3000/- subject to availability. Participants can either book hotels on their own or can direct their bookings through the Organising Committee by coordinating with the Accommodation Team. Located on the banks of river Sabarmati, the city is unique because of its planned structure and layout wherein the sectors are labeled as per the Gujarati alphabets but unlike Chandigarh this city was developed by two Indians Prakash M. Apte & H. K. Mewada, who had apprenticed with Le Corbusier. The venue of the conference is forty-five minutes away from the Ahmedabad Railway Station and Ahmedabad Bus Depot, half-an-hour from the Gandhinagar Railway station and twenty minutes away from the Ahmedabad Airport. Cab services are available to travel from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. CLIMATE The climate is pleasantly cool and the temperature ranges from 12 C to 28 C. 8
