This powerful course uses the practical toolkit of adaptive leadership to guide you through a real-world challenge while enhancing your leadership skills.
Develop Your Leadership Skills 1 Practical strategies Assess and address challenges within the practice of medicine and learn how to mobilize teams to reach organizational and patient-centered goals. 3 Mentoring Get continual guidance on applying adaptive leadership tools to your chosen leadership challenge. 2 Cutting-edge tools Strengthen your capacity to thrive in an ever-changing environment using tools developed through decades of research at Harvard University. 4 Peer-to-peer learning Consult with a small cohort of approximately 30 participants and apply course concepts working in teams of four to five people. What is adaptive leadership? Adaptive leadership is a people-focused leadership development approach grounded in foundations of inclusion and diverse perspectives. Its practical toolkit provides leaders with insights and the resilience to lead change when facing multifaceted systemic problems. This program is specially designed for: Physician leaders Administrative staff Allied clinical staff Staff and employed physicians with leadership potential Physicians are encouraged to enroll with a clinical or administrative dyad partner to maximize course impact. Examples of adaptive leadership challenges: Implementing a patientcentered pain management program optimizing opioid stewardship and patient outcomes Mobilizing colleagues to eliminate bloodstream infections and other hospital-acquired conditions Enhancing provider compliance with value-based purchasing programs
PROGRAM SCHEDULE Kickoff Session Thursday, September 22 7 9 pm Opening Dinner, Naperville-area restaurant Join course faculty for a robust discussion of the adaptive leadership challenges facing physicians and Illinois healthcare delivery system. You ll also have time to network and consult with faculty and your cohort colleagues. Friday, September 23 7:30 am 4:30 pm Saturday, September 24 7:30 am 2 pm Explore and apply foundational adaptive leadership concepts to challenges within your practice of medicine and your organization. distinguish between technical challenge, adaptive challenge, leadership and authority. Redefine your challenge and identify new strategies to utilize within your practice. Present your challenge using adaptive leadership case consultation protocols and receive implementation guidance and coaching from cohort colleagues and faculty. Small Group Coaching Call (Date and time determined by group) discuss each physician s challenge using the case consultation protocol. Receive and provide relevant feedback to overcome obstacles. Mid-Point Session Friday, October 21 7:30 am 4:30 pm discuss your challenge and the progress you ve made applying course strategies. Outline the stakeholder interests in your challenge and build a stakeholder strategy map, including faction mapping and interest plotting. analyze your immunity to change to understand why our most stubborn and persistent behaviors are difficult to change. Identify strategies and tactics to overcome your immunity to change. Small Group Coaching Call (Date and time determined by group) discuss each physician s adaptive challenge using the case consultation protocol. Receive and provide relevant feedback to overcome obstacles. Capstone Session Friday, December 2 7:30 am 4:30 pm discuss your challenge and the progress you ve made applying course strategies. Identify effective communication strategies, including persuading and influencing partners without being abrasive, and strategies to move forward when others are reluctant. develop strategic skills to communicate with intention and move beyond the status quo. Practice courageous and crucial conversations to make progress on persistent challenges.
