We increasingly find our work on malaria can be effectively integrated with other similar public health interventions for greater impact and therefore expanded our remit to include child health and neglected tropical disease interventions. We work in Africa and Asia with communities, governments, academic institutions, and local and International organisations, to ensure effective delivery of services, which are supported by strong evidence. Our areas of expertise include: disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment disease control and elimination systems strengthening research, monitoring and evaluation leading to best practice behaviour change communication national and international advocacy and policy development 1

Country and project background Malaria Consortium began activities in South Sudan in 2005 and is currently implementing an integrated community case management programme for malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia and nutrition in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Bahr el Ghazal funded by DFID and UNICEF aiming to reduce morbidity and mortality for children under five years, overseeing Global Fund supported universal distribution of LLINs in Norther Bahr el Ghazal and Home management of fever, Malaria Consortium works with partners at all levels of government in an effort to support South Sudan in rebuilding the health system after successive conflicts. Malaria Consortium is the technical lead on the ICCM2 grant and is supporting NMOH to implement malaria programs and to implement the Boma Health Initiative. Job purpose The Learning and Knowledge Management specialist will lead the development and updating of a country office learning agenda which contributes to a regional office learning agenda, specifically relating to integrated community case management (iccm). The LKM specialist will champion portfolio-wide integration of practices and support collaboration, learning and knowledge sharing, and adaptive programming so that experiences from projects are better shared and used by staff, partners and key stakeholders. Scope of work The Learning and Knowledge Management Specialist will work to strengthen collaboration on information and knowledge and will work to transform impact data, lessons and best practice findings into useful information which can be used by the country team to demonstrate learning from implementation and quality management of projects in particular related to iccm. The LKM specialist will work to strengthen opportunities and tools for collaboration between South Sudan country team, regional and head office teams with regard to project achievements, successes, lessons, challenges and best practices. They will lead the development and implementation of a communication plan on iccm. They will also explore opportunities to share relevant project experiences with key beneficiary groups. Key working relationships The Learning and Knowledge Management Specialist will work closely with the Country Technical Coordinator and M&E Coordinator to facilitate learning and knowledge sharing within project teams and between project teams. They will establish collaborations with the External Relationship team in head office. Working closely with SMT members they will lead the development of a learning agenda for the country office and in particular a coherent agenda on iccm. Key accountabilities Strategic planning and leadership (10%) Serve as technical lead on matters related to learning and knowledge management. Work with the CTC and Country Director to determine how learning and knowledge management activities can be incorporated into current and future iccm programmes. Facilitate the creation of a learning agenda at country office level, which includes key knowledge gaps on iccm in South Sudan which are relevant for the iccm2 project. Learning, documentation and knowledge sharing concepts and work processes (50%) Develop information sharing processes in which relevant data pertaining to iccm are systematically used for decision-making and learning. Work closely with the M&E Coordinator to align the tools and processes used for M&E purposes and those used for information sharing internally and externally with partners and other key stakeholders. 2

Work closely with the CTC and the External Relations team in the head office to establish processes for documenting experiences and progress to package them into internal and external publications such as success stories, case studies and presentations. Work with the iccm2 project team to capture information for publications, blogs and other products such as films. Contribute to content for these and other materials. Lead the writing of a learning agenda, in particular related to iccm. Work with the SMT to establish the learning agenda approach in the country office. Work with the CTC and M&E Coordinator to identify information which demonstrates project level impact and determine the ways in which the information should be organised, synthesized and shared. Contribute to the strengthening of data-driven decision making at project level in such a way that lessons are applied to projects through a lessons learning process. Facilitate adaptive programming working closely with the Programmes Director, CTC and M&E Coordinator. Communication and Dissemination (20%) Prepare a communication plan which supports the sharing of learning with staff and external stakeholders such as Ministry of Health and key beneficiary groups. Work with the Country Director, Programmes Director and CTC to organise learning and knowledge sharing events such as seminars, webinars, workshops and peer learning sessions. Capacity building (10%) Work closely with the CTC to create a learning culture amongst the iccm2 project team. Oversee capacity building and support for internal knowledge acquisition, management and sharing to facilitate the institutionalisation of learning and knowledge management in the country team. Lead and support the creation of training materials for learning and knowledge management. Adapt existing organisational training materials wherever possible. Policies, data protection and risk management (10%) Work closely with the SMT to see that there is compliance with organisational policies related to learning and knowledge management. Work closely with the SMT and head office to identify data protection issues related to learning and knowledge management, and actions which should be taken to conform to national and UK data protection regulation. Be involved in the implementation of some of the actions which are necessary to be complaint. Identify key risks related to learning and sharing; share them with the Country Director for inclusion in the risk registry and risk mitigation plan. Participate in internal audits as necessary. Maintain an inventory of learning and knowledge assets and archive these to be easily accessible by staff in country and in regional and head office. Qualifications and experience: Essential: Master s degree in Knowledge Management, Information Science, Journalism, Communications, Development studies or related field. Experience in organisational learning and/or knowledge management with progressively increasing levels of responsibility. Demonstrable experience in developing, applying and supporting organisational learning and knowledge management practices, processes and tools. Experience working with health programmes and in particular a resource constrained setting. 3
