Overview & Programme The HSBA Summer School is designed to train you in the fields of Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and to stimulate a discourse about current and future goals, challenges and most importantly about the social and economic opportunities that correspond with responsible and sustainable business conduct. We maintain great relationships to many global businesses in Hamburg and to enrich your Summer School experience even more, we have organised special company visits and presentations from companies such as Airbus and Robert Bosch GmbH to name just two of them. These will give you an insight into the question how companies deal with aligning the pressures of the market with Corporate Social Responsibility. You will develop theoretical and analytical skills related to Business Ethics and CSR and you will get the chance to build a personal network of young talents and leading experts in this field. HSBA is the university for business in Hamburg. It was founded in 2004 by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and today has more than 900 students from all over the world. Social Programme Testimonials Welcome Reception & Induction Day On arrival you will have the first opportunity to meet your fellow students at a formal reception. HSBA s Summer School Team will officially welcome you and give useful tips for the following weeks. Use this time to make first contacts and mingle. During a boat trip on the Elbe river you also have the chance to get a first glimpse on the beautiful city of Hamburg. In the evening, a joint barbecue offers you the possibility to further get to know each other. Explore Hamburg You will be studying in one of the most beautiful cities in Germany; therefore, different activities to explore Hamburg on the water and ashore will not be missed. HSBA s students will take you on a Reeperbahn tour to explore Hamburg s famous red light district. Next to a town hall tour, of course, there will be enough time to enjoy the cultural offerings or to explore the surroundings. Company Visits (as part of the curriculum) HSBA puts a high emphasis on connecting academic theory with practice. Visiting companies with an excellent business ethics approach is a great way for you to see how your newly acquired knowledge relates to actual business cases. Farewell Dinner After two weeks of working together, visiting all the courses and writing the final exam, this dinner will give you the perfect opportunity to reminisce about your experience at the HSBA Summer School with your new friends from all over the world. It is truly inspiring to share so many lively discussions with experts and like-minded students from all over the world. Application & Fees Further Information Admission Requirements The admission requirements are the following: Language requirement: English at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or TOEFL 90 points, IELTS 6.0 Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English or equivalent, proof of Bachelor or Master studies where English was the language of instruction. Studies: Bachelor or Master level with a focus on business administration (business/economics) or other related sciences (social sciences, philosophy, politics or law). PhD students will be allowed to participate if they are in their first year of studies. Professionals: Participation possible if graduation no longer than 2 years ago. Grades: Above average grades in current or previous studies, shown by proof of university (among top 30% of students of your cohort). Application Procedure To apply for the HSBA Summer School you will need to hand in the following documents by 28 April: Letter of motivation (max. 1 page) Diplomas, transcript of records and official grading scale CV Proof of English language requirement Proof of current or final grade to be among top 30% of students of your study programme (proven by examination office) Fees & Scholarships The Summer School fees are 1.150. If you are applying from one of our partner universities or as HSBA Alumni, a discount of 25% is granted. These fees include all lectures, company visits as well as the official social programme. The HSBA Summer School is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with financial support of the Federal Foreign Office. All participants will be granted a lump-sum for accommodation and travel. More information on the HSBA website.
