Where did the Divisional Training Model come from and why does it exist? Purpose: The purpose of the Paraprofessional Development Committee is to create and assist in the on boarding process in regards to training and development for student employees in the Division of Student Affairs. Streamline training of student staff across the division Aid supervisors in providing training and resources Assure that all student staff master the same basic core competencies Constituents: All paid student employees in the Division of Student Affairs (approximately 600) Core Competencies: Leadership, Diversity, Responsibility, and Service
What is the Divisional Training Model? The DTM is made up of four main components and a total of six training modules. Three modules are in-person (prescheduled dates available from the hosting department, or custom training can be arranged) Three modules are online (via Blackboard) Details regarding each training module can be found under the Division of Student Affairs Student Employee Training Curriculum on Owl Central.

All student affairs student employees o o o o Graduate Assistants Interns Work Study Employees Previously hired and new student staff Previously hired staff do NOT need to retake any modules, they can self-report on Owl Central if specific modules have already been completed Staff supervisor will be holding students accountable for completing the training by 3 months after their hire date `
How do we execute the Divisional Training Model?
When do we execute the DTM?
[adding students to the Curriculum] 1. Add the student(s) to the Division of Student Affairs Student Employee Training curriculum on Owl Central a. Log into Owl Central, Click on Administration (top right corner) b. Click Curriculums, then on the dropdown, Curriculum List c. Select Division of Student Affairs Student Employee Training How to switch between Public and Admin side
[adding students to the Curriculum] d. Select the Participants tab, then check the list to see if the student is already listed as a Participant (use the search bar - it will search by first, last or both or FAU Net ID, but sometimes it does not always work) Look here first
[adding students to the Curriculum] e. If a student is not listed, click the blue Add Participants button; you will see a full list of ALL Owl Central users. Search for the student you want to add. If you find the student, click the blue Add button next to their name. They will then have access to the Curriculum the next time they log into Owl Central

You ll need to invite them to be a user first, then go back and follow steps a - e once they are listed as a user in Owl Central. To add a new user to Owl Central: Go back to the public site and go into the profile page of the organization you re in, typically your department (if your department doesn t have one, use Student Involvement -- or make a new one!)

You ll need to invite them to be a user first, then go back and follow steps a - e once they are listed as a user in Owl Central. To add a new user to Owl Central: Click on Roster (about halfway on the menu that runs across the top) Click on Invite People Add the student e-mail address, click Add E-Mail Address and then select Member, then Send Invitations
[completing the training modules] 1. Whether before this semester or during, this is how the student will Mark Complete each Curriculum Item; they will fill out the completion date, semester/year, and answer the reflection question.
[completing the training modules] 2. Schedule in-person trainings a. Ask the students to pick from the pre-scheduled dates and attend on their own OR b. Arrange for student employees to receive in person trainings together as a group by contacting the hosting department(s) How to find the pre-scheduled dates: Find the Curriculum Item and expand Click Details A window will pop up with a list of dates Should also include a sign-up link
[adding students to the Blackboard trainings] 3. Complete online modules via Blackboard Managers have been given access to Blackboard as Assistants Managers should add their student employees to Blackboard similar to adding them to Owl Central
[adding students to the Blackboard trainings] Blackboard (Adding Students) On the left hand side click the Users and Groups drop down and then click Users Under the header of Users Click Find Users to Enroll
[adding students to the Blackboard trainings] Blackboard (Adding Students) On the Add Enrollments page you will be entering the usernames of your staff Under the Enroll Users header you will be entering the usernames seperated by a comma Example: deckerc,johnsonl,etc. Once you have all of your staff in the box ensure the Role is set to Participant and the Enrollment Availability is set to Yes Click Submit
[adding students to the Blackboard trainings] Blackboard (Adding Students) After clicking Submit you will be sent back to the Users page. You should see Success: Enrollment added for user:... If there is an error uploading your students, you will need to fix the username and then do the bulk upload again
[completing the training modules] Blackboard (Training Modules) The staff member will find the Training Modules they need to go through by click Training Modules on the left hand side They will then click within each module to complete the material and take the post-test assessment The student will then go to Owl Central and self-report completing the modules
[completing the training modules] 2. Remember, after finishing the module, the student will go into Owl Central in order to Mark Complete each Curriculum Item; they will fill out the completion date, semester/year, and answer the reflection question.
Assessment In-Person Trainings: Pre and post tests built into the trainings Online Modules: Post tests in Blackboard Curriculum Items: Completion Date & Questions requested for each item on Owl Central
Completion of Program Upon completion, students will turn in their Progress Report from Owl Central. This report can be saved as a PDF and either printed or emailed to you. This shows a record of all trainings, dates, and reflections. As an administrator, you can also log in to check student progress.

Tips for Implementation Think about scheduling in-house sessions for the inperson trainings, or collaborate with other departments for these. Consider allowing work time to complete online trainings Monitor student progress on a monthly basis Reflect on program completion during 1:1 meetings Connect what is learned with current position/job
Accountability Thank you for ensuring that all your student employees complete this program within the first three months of their employment. In order for this program to run smoothly, we need everyone on board. If a student is unable to complete this program, it is viewed as not completing the required training of their position.
