D.., Superintendent Request for Approval and Arrangement for the Committee on Special Education Recommendations and Student Placements and Committee on Pre-School Special Education Procedures and definitions pertaining to Special Education are embodied under Part 200 of Commissioners' Regulations and Article 89 ofnew York Education Law. They mandate that Boards of Education provide appropriate education programs and services for pupils with handicapping conditions upon receipt of recommendations and student placements from the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Pre-School Special Education (CPSE) on 01/07/16, 01/12/16, 01/13, 01/14116, 01/20/16. Request Approval for AP Biology and Anatomy & Physiology Classes to Participate in a Field Trip to the Liberty Science Center and Times Square on Friday, April 1, 2016 The adopted district goals speak to the need to provide students with innovative and effective instructional opportunities, as well as a wide array of quality extracurricular activities and programs. To that end, there has been a concerted effort to plan and organize trips that will provide students true immersion opportunities that correlate and are consistent with learning standards and curriculum content. ANALYSIS/EVALUATION The high school principal is requesting Board approval for the AP Biology and Anatomy & Physiology class students to participate in a field trip to the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey and Body Worlds in Times Square, New York on Friday, April1, 2016. Students will observe an open heart surgery and human cadavers. Students will depart from the high school at 5:00AM and return at approximately 9:00 PM. The cost of this trip is $82.00 per student including transportation. Transportation will be through chartered bus. There will be approximately 40 students attending and four chaperones. That the Board of Education approve the request for AP Biology and Anatomy & Physiology class students to participate in a field trip to the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey and Body Worlds in Times Square, New York on Friday, April1, 2016. Spring, Ph.D., Superintenden~ Request Approval for Cheerleaders Field Trip to Ocean City, Maryland from February 25 -February 28, 2016 The adopted district goals speak to the need to provide students with innovative and effective instructional opportunities, as well as a wide array of quality extra-curricular activities and programs. To that end, there has been a concerted effort by clubs and advisors to plan and organize trips that will provide students true immersion opportunities that correlate and are consistent with learning standards and curriculum content. EVALUATION /ANALYSIS The Director of Athletics is requesting Board approval for Mohonasen Cheerleaders to participate in a National Cheer Competition in Ocean City, Maryland. The trip is proposed for Thursday, February 25, 2016 through Sunday, February 28, 2016. Students will only miss one day of school, as they will leave in the evening on February 25th. Approximately 15 students will be participating. There will be ten chaperones attending. The cost will be approximately $177 for each athlete. They will be staying at the Comfort Inn on Boardwalk, 507 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City, Maryland. Students will be doing fundraising to help pay for the cost and the difference will be paid with parental contributions. Transportation will be by Yankee Trails. That the Board of Education approve the Mohonasen Cheerleaders trip to Ocean City, Maryland to attend a National Cheer Competition from Thursday, February 25 through Sunday, February 28,2016. Spring, Ph.D., SuperintendentW Request Approval for Draper MS History Club Field Trip to Washington D.C. on April 20-22, 2016 The adopted district goals speak to the need to provide students with innovative and effective instructional opportunities, as well as a wide array of quality extra-curricular activities and programs. To that end, there has been a concerted effort by clubs and advisors to plan and organize trips that will provide students true immersion opportunities that correlate and are consistent with learning standards and curriculum content. EVALUATION /ANALYSIS The Middle School Principal is requesting Board approval for the Draper Middle School History Club to participate in a field trip to Washington DC. The trip is proposed for Wednesday, April 20 through Friday, April 22, 2016 and approximately 25-30 students will be participating. The itinerary includes visiting the Smithsonian Museum, Holocaust Museum, FDR Memorial, Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, MLK Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, United States Capital, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, National Archives, Washington Nationals Baseball Game and Arlington Cemetery. All of the sites that will be visited are related to topics covered in the 7th and 8th grade NYS Social Studies Curriculum. The trip is being planned through Brown Bus Company of Amsterdam. The anticipated chaperone ratio will be 10 students to one adult. The approximate cost of the trip will be $385 per student. Spring, Ph.D., SuperintendentGX\llbL- Request for Acceptance of Monetary Donations Board of Education Policy Section 5240 stipulates the Board may accept donations, which will add to the overall welfare of the District. EVALUATION/ANALYSIS The Board of Education is being asked to accept the following donations: A donation in the amount of $500.00 to be used for the Bradt Playground. The donation was made by Red-Kap Sales Incorporated. A donation in the amount of$500.00 to be used to support the District in the area ofmath and/or Science. The donation was made by Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program. A donation in the amount of $249.00 to be used for the Art Department. Spring, Ph.D., Superintendentcf\W/ ~ ~ Request for Approval of Agreement with Independent Consultants for Professional Development Services The Mohonasen Central School District often contracts with independent consultants to provide certain services to benefit students and teachers in the district. EVALUATION /ANALYSIS The following independent consultants have agreed to provide professional development services to assist teachers to best educate students in the Mohonasen Central School District. Services provided shall include faculty workshops and presentations, classroom demonstrations, consultations, advice, and reports to the district. The Mohonasen Central School District will compensate the independent consultants at the rates listed below. This contract will be effective for the period of January 2016 through June 2016. Spring, Superintenden~ Request for Approval of Smart Schools Investment Plan The Smart Schools Bond Act of2014 was passed in the 2014-15 Enacted Budget ofnew York State and approved by state voters in a referendum held during the 2014 General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The Smart Schools Bond Act authorized the issuance of $2 billion of general obligation bonds to finance improved educational technology and infrastructure to improve learning and opportunity for students throughout the state. EVALUATION/ANALYSIS Each school district in the state received an allocation as a part of the Smart Schools Bond Act. The allocation for the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District is $1,737,958.00. The process of applying for this allocation of funds included getting input from various stakeholders, developing a preliminary investment plan, posting the preliminary plan for a minimum of 30 days on the District website and allowing for public comment, and finally holding a public hearing for the final version of the investment plan. The District has taken all of these steps, incorporated input from a variety of sources, culminating in the public forum held on January 11,2016.
