Strategies for Academic Achievement Assessment Skills and Tips Schedule Tips and techniques for assessments Learn how to: n Aim for extra marks in your assignments n Plan your revision and assessment strategies n Broaden your research and impress your tutor(s) n Avoid plagiarism through effective paraphrasing n Understand challenging maths and statistics problems n Plan your approach to tackling examination essays n Refresh your referencing techniques n Analyse questions and identify what is expected of you n Use Blackboard for revision and assessment preparation The January Assessment and Academic Skills programme offers: n Workshops and drop-in sessions centred around one of the main LJMU assessment periods 03/01/17-20/01/17 n Advice that will help you maximise your academic potential n Tutors and librarians on hand to discuss effective study and exam techniques n Activities taking place on all campuses n Choice of times and venues n Expert and confidential advice n Advance booking not necessary: keep this information with you, and access available support when it suits you ou just decide: n which workshops or drop-in sessions suit you. The sessions in this booklet are offered in addition to the support available from your programme team. Talk to them to find out how they can support your revision and assessment planning. Study smarter Good planning will help you work smarter and maximise your potential in assessments and assignments. So take advantage of these sessions to think about how you will approach each task. Here s the serious bit If you are studying on a programme that is offered over a conventional academic year (September to May) you may well have an assessment period in January. LJMU s Assessment Skills Programme offers you an opportunity to reflect upon what you have learned, and then enhance the skills that will help you achieve your academic potential. If you are not sitting exams or handing in assignments in January, you can still attend the workshops and classes to help you plan for your next assessments. Check with your programme team, as they may also run activities to prepare you for assessments and assignments.
