Sixth form leadership is having a highly positive impact. Ofsted May 2016 The Bromfords Sixth Form gives the secure foundations which allow us to become the achieving and succeeding individuals that we aim to be. Sixth Form Student

Post-16 External Review 2015

Teaching and Learning The Bromfords Sixth Form College prides itself on excellent teaching and learning; Post-16 staff are all specialists in their subjects with advanced understanding of each curriculum area; The Bromfords Sixth Form College tailors courses for all students. Options include BTEC courses, mixed BTEC/A-Level courses and A-level courses; We also offer bridging programmes for students who would benefit from an additional academic year before embarking on Level 3 courses or employment; Opportunities to improve GCSE grades in English and Mathematics. Preparation for sixth form study skills is very good. As a result of these lessons, learners were seen to be hard working and focused in subject lessons and in private study periods. Ofsted 2016

Sixth Form Curriculum The extensive curriculum is tailored to each individual student. We aim to give as many students as possible their first preference of subject choices for Bridging/BTEC/Mixed Programme or A-Level subjects. Unlike many providers, Bromfords offers a range of Level 2, BTEC, mixed A-Level /BTEC and A-Level qualifications. We are very proud of the fact that our curriculum caters for students of all academic abilities. Bromfords Curriculum Map 2016 Bridging course for students who have not met Level 3 entry requirements. Bridging BTEC Students select from a wide variety of BTEC courses including Business, ICT, Sport and Science. Course Programme Mixed Traditional Programme A-Level Mixed programmes allow students to select any combination of BTEC and A-Level courses. Programme Students select from a wide range of A-Level courses. The Sixth Form has given me so many opportunities for my future. All the teachers were willing to help, wanting nothing more than to help me achieve my goals. I would recommend the Sixth Form to any student who wants to learn, work hard, have fun and achieve their potential. Sixth Form Student

Details of Courses Offered By taking A-Levels and BTEC courses at Bromfords I was able to manage my work load with the help of subject teachers. Sixth Form Student Bridging Course The course provides a bespoke curriculum for students who have yet to meet the entry requirements for our Level 3 courses. This will include the opportunity to retake GCSE English and/or Mathematics in a small post-16 class. Students will also undertake the BTEC Level 2 Retail or Business Management Qualification. In addition, each Friday, students will be placed in an industry of their choice to undertake work experience. Students who complete this course can then continue on to Level 3 BTEC qualifications at The Bromfords Sixth Form College. BTEC Programmes Students select the equivalent of up to four BTEC subjects. BTEC options include BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science (equivalent to one A-level), BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in ICT, (equivalent to one A-level), BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business, (equivalent to one A level), BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Business (equivalent to two A-levels), BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport (equivalent to two A-levels). A Level Programmes Students select four A-Levels from the following subject choices: Biology*, Chemistry*, Physics*, Mathematics*, Further Mathematics*, Economics, Dance, English Literature*, English Language and Literature, Film Studies, Fine Art, French*, Geography*, History*, ICT, Media, Psychology, Physical Education, Photography, Sociology, Textiles, 3D Product Design and Drama/Theatre Studies. Mixed BTEC/A-Level Programmes Students select any combination of up to four A-Level and BTEC subjects including: BTEC Business, BTEC ICT, BTEC Sport, BTEC Science and/or A-Level Biology*, Chemistry*, Physics*, Mathematics*, Further Mathematics*, Dance, Economics, English Literature*, English Language and Literature, Film Studies, Fine Art, French*, Geography*, History*, ICT, Media, Psychology, Physical Education, Photography, Sociology, Textiles, 3D Product Design and Drama/Theatre Studies. *These subjects are called facilitating subjects. Facilitating subjects are viewed favourably by leading UK universities. Students who achieve a high grade profile at GCSE should consider taking two, ideally three of these subjects. Choosing facilitating subjects will ensure a wider variety of career paths are kept open to you.

Facilities Student life is centred in the purpose built Sixth Form Centre which includes supervised study areas, extensive computer facilities and collaborative work spaces for sole use by Sixth Form students. The facilities are available to students from Monday - Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm, Friday 7:30am-4:15pm. Enrichment Opportunities The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College has a number of enrichment activities including: Student Ambassador programme, where students undertake leadership activities linked to their career aspirations; Opportunities to work with primary and special schools in our local community; Opportunities to mentor students in particular subjects; Organising charity events throughout the year; Oxbridge and Russell Group University programme; National Citizenship Service programme; Employability for Life Charter Plus external qualification; Duke of Edinburgh Award; Free access to Nuffield Gym from 3pm-5pm during term time at The Bromfords Sports Centre.

Student Ambassador Programme Our Student Ambassador programme allows students to develop their leadership potential. Students undertake leadership roles which are linked to their individual career aspirations. Our Student Ambassador programme includes: Student Executive a series of committees run by the Sixth Form students; Student Voice where students work with senior leaders to recommend improvements to the main school and Sixth Form; Organisation of charity events; Leading parental tours for Open Evenings; Mentoring of students including literacy mentors, numeracy mentors and subject specific mentors at all key stages; Creating marketing and promotional materials for the Sixth Form and individual subjects; Outreach work with the local community, primary schools and special schools; Subject-specific educational trips. Learners are very well supported by staff and by their peers. They see this as a significant strength in their sixth form. Positive relationships with teachers and among learners were observed both in and out of lessons. Ofsted 2016 The Bromfords Sixth Form gives the secure foundations which allow us to become the achieving and succeeding individuals that we aim to be. Sixth Form Student

Pastoral & Tutorial Support The Sixth Form offers a personalised and caring approach to ensure that students find the challenges of moving from GCSE to post-16 education a positive experience. The transition is supported through a structured tutorial programme led by experienced post-16 staff. In addition to their chosen subjects, every student is supported with a series of timetabled lessons which deliver topics including essential study skills for the Sixth Form and guided support with both University and workplace applications. We have a well-qualified and dedicated Post-16 team to support the individual needs of our Sixth Form students. The Sixth Form College provides support services from counsellors, pastoral support and a dedicated Student Engagement Officer. Students, parents and carers are provided with the Sixth Form team s email and direct contact numbers to ensure regular and open communication. Admissions We recognise that choosing your post-16 provider is a really important decision. We offer an individual meeting to discuss the most suitable courses. At the meeting subject choices, progression routes, guidance and accompanying documentation will be completed. Parents/carers are also welcome to attend this meeting. To express an interest in joining our Sixth Form or to book an admissions appointment, please email Aaron Rowswell, Sixth Form Centre Administrator. rowswella@bromfords.essex.sch.uk Leaders have also set high expectations in their policies and procedures for attendance and independent study habits. The sixth form study area is large and well set out with sufficient computers, and provides well for quiet study and group work. Teachers provide additional work and reading lists so that learners can successfully continue study out of lessons. Ofsted 2016
