Post Graduate Department of Computer Engineering Awards 6 Results 6 Placement 7 Internship 7 Faculty Interaction 7 Others Alumni meet 8 Postgraduate Department of Computer Engineering is the first Post Graduate Department (PG) in Computer Engineering in the unaided engineering colleges under Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) which started in August 2000 with an intake capacity of 25. The Second shift PG program with an intake of 24 was sanctioned in the year 2013. The SPPU approved Research Center (Ph.D) is started in 2014. The experienced faculty with 6 PhDs as Senior Professors and Adjunct Faculty, 25 PG approved faculty with 13 PhD pursuing are contributing to the department. The laboratories are equipped with the core i7 machines, internet and digital library access. More than 300 students have completed their M.E. in Computer Engineering and have been successfully placed in reputed industries and academic institutions. Editorial Board Message from Department Chair: It gives me immense pleasure to bring out this second issue of PG Newsletter with the first International Conference, ICEI-2017 conducted in PICT. This Newsletter also reflects the happenings of PG department filled with faculty and students achievements and co-curricular activities with the conclusion of academic year 2016-2017. Technical Events : International Conference Emerging Trends and Innovation in ICT An International Conference on Emerging Trends and Innovation in ICT (ICEI) was organized by PICT in association with IEEE Pune Section, IEEE Computer Society, Pune Chapter and Sponsored by SPPU, Pune and AICTE, New Delhi from 3 rd February, 2017 to 5 th February, 2017. The conference provided an international level platform for researchers, academicians, professionals, engineers and students to share their research ideas and experience on the latest trends of technology. It is the first International Conference organized by PICT with the efforts of Dr. P.T. Kulkarni, Principal, PICT as conference chair, Dr. R.B. Ingle as Technical Program Chair along with faculty and student organizers. The involvement of post graduate students of Computer Engineering in the conference gave them an exposure to organizational skills and research methods and tools. Tutorial Sessions The tutorials on Digital Hygiene, Big Data Analytics and Mathematical Modeling were conducted on 3 rd February, 2017 at PICT, Pune. There were 250 participants for the tutorial sessions which provided the insight in to the current techniques and tools used in research and industry. Dr. Amitkant Pandit, Professor, J&K, Suhas Desai, Vice President, Aujas and Sarvesh Sonawane from Surun Infocore Systems took sessions on Digital Hygiene. Dr. Sharad Saxsena from SAS System, Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh from Datatorrent, Chinmay Kolhatkar from Datatorrent, Jeril Kuriakose, Software Engineer and Godson Michael D'Silva conducted theory and hands on sessions on Big Data Analytics. Dr. Arundhati Warke, from Symboisis International University and Dr. Arunkumar Patil fom SGGS Nanded delivered sessions on Mathematical Modeling. Mathematical Modeling Digital Hygiene Big Data Analytics Inauguration The conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. SeungHyun Lee, Kwangwoon University, South Korea. He talked about augmented and virtual reality as emerging trends in his address. Around 120 participants attended the key note address and conference sessions including 11 international participants from Japan, France and South Korea on 4 th February, 2017 at Sheraton Grand Hotel, Pune. Technical Events : International Conference Key Note Address Mr. Swastik Sirsikar, Secretary, SCTR, Pune highly appreciated the great efforts done by founders of PICT for making technocrats, talents and for providing latest technology in the field of computer to the people. Dr. M.V. Pitke, Founder Director C-Dot, India stressed for the need of hard work, patience, experimentations, testing, and experience for converting the idea into reality. In his key note address, Dr. Virendrakumar C. Bhavasar, University of New Burnswick, Canada said half of the word is connected with internet. He mentioned the convergence of 3 key technologies namely High performance computing, Big Data, and IOT. The ICT plays key role in smart cities and digital India "said, Dr. Rajat Moona, Director General C-DAC, India. He talked about the bright future of ICT with adhar card as the example. Conference Session Augmented Reality ICEI 2017 Team Sessions During conference, many interesting topics like Emerging Trends in Engineering, Wireless Communication & Internet of Things (IOT), Augmented Reality Embedded Systems, Big Data & Data Mining, Signal Processing, Cloud & Smart Sensing, High Performance Computing, and Information & Network Security, were discussed in Emerging trends in Engineering and Emerging trends in embedded systems sessions. Overall 32 papers were presented in 6 tracks. The session chairs, Dr.Varsha Patil, BOS Coordinator, Computer Engineering, University of Pune, Dr. V.K Pachghare, College of Engineering, Pune, Dr.Ritesh Patil, Professor, Pune District s COE, Manjari, Dr. Sushama Shelke, College of Engineering, Pune, Dr. B.M. Patil, MIT Pune, Dr. Yogesh Dandawate, VIIT Pune, Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, Datatorrent and Dr. Sunil Pardeshi, DataCops Pvt. Ltd. suggested, discussed technicalities of papers with the presenters and encouraged the participants. A workshop on Innovative Computing was conducted by Mr. Vaibhav tulsiyani on 5 th February, 2017. On the same valedictory function was held at Pune Institute of Computer Technology. Technical Events : Workshops Data Analytics with R Programming A two day state level workshop on Data Analytics with R Programming was organized by Department of Computer Engineering and IEEE computer society Pune chapter in association with Savitribai Phule Pune University on 16 th and 17 th of January 2017 for faculty and post graduate students. Ms.Sonali Patwe, Mr.Sanjay Sane, Dr.Harshit Lamba, Dr.Prachi Joshi delivered sessions on data analysis with various R programming concepts and hands on practice. It was coordinated by Dr. A.S. Ghotkar and Prof. S.S. Sonavane along with faculty and post graduate students of Computer Engineering. Software Modeling and Testing A workshop on Software Modeling and Testing was conducted on 20 th and 21 st Janauary 2017 for faculty and post graduate students. Ms. Priti Biyani, Ms Apoorva, Mr. Dhananjay from Thoughtworks conducted hands on session on Software testing with Junit. Mr. Souvik Barat from TRDDC delivered a session on Software Architecture. Mrs. Asmita Indalkar took hands on session on Selenium. The participants learnt about the modeling and testing tools used in industry and expressed the interest to attend more such workshops with long duration. It was coordinated by Prof. A.R. Deshpande with technical assistance by Mr.D.D. Thikekar and Mr.S.V. Shinde. Technical Events : Seminars A seminar on High Performance Computing was delivered by Dr. VCV Rao, Associate Director & Head of the Department, C-DAC, Pune on 17 th January 2017 and was coordinated by Prof. M. Mall and Prof. R. Kulkarni. A seminar on Technology Trends was delivered by Sudhir Menon, Head Oracle Competency, Principal Consultant on 23 rd February 2017. It is coordinated by Prof. A.R. Deshpande and Prof. V.V. Bagade. A workshop on Big Data Analysis using Hadoop was conducted by Prof. S.S. Suradkar from 28 th Feb to 3 rd March 2017. Xperiance To facilitate the interaction with industry and academic professionals and to gain insight in to the latest techniques and tools in technology and research, a series of seminars are arranged for PG students called Xperiance. It was coordinated by Prof. P.S. Game and Prof.A.R. Buchade. A seminar on Intellectual Property Rights was delivered by Mr. Himmat Sankhla on 17 th Feb 2017. Research : Research Center The SPPU approved research center (Ph.D) is started in 2014. The research laboratory is being upgraded with core i7 computers with video conferencing facility. Currently 10 research scholars are pursuing their PhD in Computer Engineering under the guidance of Dr. R.B. Ingle, Dr. S.A. Joshi, Dr. B.A. Sonkamble and Dr. Parag Kulkarni. 10 research scholars have completed their course work. The Ph.D program process is defined with ISO 9001:2015. Dr. A.S. Ghotkar is coordinating the Ph.D program. Research : Publications Faculty Publication Prof. S.S. Sonawane presented a paper at IEEE international conference on Computing, Analytics and Security trends (CAST 2016) in the track of Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval on The role of coreference resolution in extractive summarization dated December 2016. She received the Best paper award for the same. Prof. G.V. Kale presented a paper at Joint Conference of International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Applications (ICICA 2016) & 3 rd International Conference on Power, Circuit and Information Technologies (ICPCIT-2016) on Vision Based Monitoring System for Old Age Homes dated December 2016. Dr Archana Ghotkar and Prof. Pujashree Vidap together published a paper in Signal & Image Processing : An International Journal (SIPIJ) Volume 7, Number 6 on Fourier Descriptor for Indian Sign Language dated December 2016. Dr. R. B. Ingle coauthored a paper at International Journal of Network Security, on Evidence Based Trust Estimation Model for Cloud Computing Services dated January 2017. Dr. R. B. Ingle coauthored a paper on Representational State Transfer API Life Cycle Management in International Journal of Innovative Research in Computer and Communication Engineering, Volume 5, Issue 3, Pages 4144-4149, Ess & Ess Research Publications. Prof. A.R. Buchade and Dr. R.B. Ingle presented a paper on Performance analysis of key splitting algorithms for cloud computing at IEEE International Conference on Computing, Analytics & Security Trends (CAST), 2016. The passing percentage of M.E. second year first semester is 100% with 96.64% students passing with first class including 76.64% students passing with first class with distinction. Dissertation 36 students of 2015-2016 batch of M.E. Computer Engineering have successfully completed their dissertation. PG Scholarship The GATE qualified students of M.E. Computer Engineering receive the PG-Scholarship from AICTE through Direct Benefit Transfer on the basis of their teaching assistantship. 25 students have received this scholarship for the academic year 2016-2017. Achievements : Placement Placement 2016-17 18 students of the 2014-2015 batch of M.E. students are placed in reputed companies like Rakuten, inautix, Cybage, Browntape, Accenture, TCS and L&T Infotech, with 10 students getting the package of more than 5 lakhs. 09 students of 2015-2016 batch of M.E. students are placed in reputed companies like InfoStretch, Cybage, IBM GBS, SAS R&D India Pvt. Ltd. and Webonise Lab,Pune. The campus recruitment for 2016-17 batch of M.E. students is started from June 2017. Among ME first year students 7 are selected for internship in Sybase a SAP Company and 4 are selected in SAS R&D India Pvt. Ltd. with stipend of Rs.30000/month. Prof. V.V. Bagade has coordinated the internship program selection process. Achievements : Faculty Interaction Faculty Developent Program at SAS Faculty development program on Business Intelligence and Analytics was conducted by SAS Research and Development (India) Pvt. Ltd. Pune in association with department of Computer Engineering on 20 th and 21 st April 2017 at their premises. The FDP Coordinator, Prof. P.S. Game attended the program with 8 other faculty. Dr. Sharad Saxena, Mr. Abhijit Murumkar, Ms Sangita Rokade, Ms. Deepti Charankar, Mr.Prasad Kulkarni from SAS delivered the sessions on Data Management, Analytics and reporting along with hands on session on SAS E-miner tool. Achievements : Faculty Interaction Dr. R.B. Ingle worked as chair, Nomination committee, IEEE Pune Section AGM at Hotel Ramee Grand, Pune and delivered talk on IEEE conference. He has also addressed gathering as Nomination committee chair during AGM on 24 th December 2016. Prof. A.R. Deshpande worked as resource person in Software Modeling & Testing workshop on 20 th January 2017. Dr. A.S. Ghotkar worked as track chair in IEEE-ICEI conference-2017 at PICT, Pune on 4 th February 2017. Prof. Virendra Bagade organized academic session from UK university at PICT, Pune on 20 th February 2017. Dr. A.S. Ghotkar was session chair for cpgcon-17 held at Sandip Institute of Technology and Research, Nashik on 24 th March 2017. Dr. R. B. Ingle attended IEEE R10 (Asia Pacific) executive council meeting at Holiday Inn, Hong Kong during 20 th to 23 rd Jan 2017. Dr. A.S. Ghotkar and Prof. Pujashree Vidap reviewed final concept design presentation of 12 students with Mr. Uday Ghare (Tech-Mahindra Pvt. Ltd) Under Centre of Excellence, in PICT-COE Lab on 25 th February 2017. Dr. A.S. Ghotkar, Prof. Sheetal Sonawane and team submitted final SSR to NAAC on 6 th May 2017. Dr. R.B. Ingle is appointed as IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific) Student Activities Coordinator for 2017 & 2018. Dr. R. B. Ingle served as General Chair for IEEE WIECON ECE 2016, Pune, India from 19 th to 21 st December 2016. Dr. R. B. Ingle was appointed as Technical Programming Committee Chair of Conference CAST-2016, held at COEP, Pune in December 2016. He also worked as session chair for one of the session. Dr. G. P. Potdar was invited as Chief Guest at Marathwada Mitra Mandal s College of Engineering for FDP of Principles of Programming Languages organized in association with SPPU in December 2016. Prof.H.P. Channe attended AICTE sponsored One Week FDP on Recents Trends in Cyber Security at COEP, Pune on 13 th to 17 th Feb 2017. Dr. R. B. Ingle attended and participated in Japan SYWL Workshop for Next Generation of IEEE - Invent the Future on 3 rd March 17, at Shin-narashino Campus, Chiba Institute of Technology, Japan. Prof. S.S. Sonawane and Prof. G.V.Kale have submitted Ph.D thesis and Prof. A.R. Buchade has submitted Ph.D pre synopsis report Prof. Prof. A.R. Buchade has worked as a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. Prof. Prof. A.R. Buchade has worked as Program Committee Member of conferences, IC4S 2017, ICSICCS- 2017, IoT4TD-2017, ICINC_2017, ICRACCCS-2016, IC4S 2016. Others : Alumni Meet Alumni Committee headed by Dr.R.B. Ingle conducted Alumni meets at Bangalore on 27 th August, 2016, at Chicago on 7 th July 2016, at Pune Club on 17 th December 2016, at PICT 24 th December 2016, at Hong Kong on 19 th January 2017 and Tokyo on 5 th March 2017.
