YOUR IMPACT POOLE COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT ANNUAL GIVING REPORT 2011-12

It is a great privilege for me to join with the Poole College and NC State communities in celebrating several milestones this year: our 20th year as a college, the 10th anniversary of our MBA program, and NC State s 125th anniversary. As a college, we have achieved a great deal in our relatively short history. Our ranking in the top 18% of accredited business schools in the nation by US News and World Report reflects the growing recognition of our quality academic programs that prepare our graduates for careers in all the traditional disciplines of business as well as what differentiates us from other business schools - our focus on the management and commercialization of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, we are developing an emphasis in sustainability and expanding globalization across all our disciplines. We are proud of and thankful for the alumni and friends who have helped us get to where we are today. You are critical to everything we do to position the college for greater visibility within the state and on national and international stages. A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN This report explains how unrestricted Annual Fund gifts to the Poole College of Management were used in the past year. I encourage and challenge you to remain involved with your Poole College family. Stay in touch, re-connect, give back and enjoy seeing the value of your degree grow. Please join me in investing in the future of the Poole College of Management at NC State University. Sincerely, Ira R. Weiss, Dean

YOUR IMPACT IN 2011-2012 Gifts to the Poole College of Management s 21st Century Fund provide academic leadership with unrestricted funds current-use dollars that contribute directly and immediately to the ongoing needs of the college. These funds help offset annual operating costs and provide critical funding that allows the college to be more flexible in responding to areas of opportunity as and when they arise.

YOUR IMPACT Following are some of the ways your gifts were used in this past fiscal year. 1. Strengthen the alumni network and the overall Poole College of Management community through special events, outreach and networking opportunities that help to create job leads for alumni and students, build value for the Poole College brand, and expand the college s reputation, influence and outreach to the business community and beyond. 2. Provide scholarship funds to competitively recruit incoming freshmen of outstanding caliber and leadership potential in a time of increasing tuition costs. Such students contribute not only to the Poole College of Management, but to the NC State community as a whole. 3. Offer assistance for student enrichment activities. These important activities substantially contribute to the Poole College of Management student experience and also build visibility for NC State. They also reinforce strong partnership with industry and the community who benefit from the energy, enthusiasm and dedicated hard work of all of our students, graduate and undergraduate alike. 4. Contribute to successful and competitive faculty recruitment. Poole College welcomed five new permanent faculty members this fall, who are joining our faculty in economics, finance, human resources, marketing and organizational behavior. 5. Support faculty research, specifically in the areas of economics, management, innovation, and entrepreneurship. 6. Build international partnerships by providing operating costs related to program development that benefits our students, faculty, and our global exposure and experience for the entire college community, a strong priority for the Poole College. These activities have resulted in new international dual-degree programs and international internship options. Thank you for your participation and support!

OTHER ALUMNI ANNUAL GIFTS While funds from the 21st Century Fund are used to support the entire Poole College, some of our alumni chose to give back to a specific program or area within our Jenkins Graduate School or to a specific area within our Undergraduate Programs. For example... Alumni annual gifts to the Jenkins MBA Program last year were used for international outreach, faculty support, student recruitment and current student activities. Our Office of Development and External Relations staff is available to help alumni and other friends of the college stay connected and participate in the continued growth and development of the NC State Poole College of Management and Jenkins Graduate School of Management. We are working to communicate better with you, offer you engagement activities that add value to you, and keep you better informed. We have also added an online giving option to the Poole College of Management website. Visit poole.ncsu.edu/makeagift. With this new online tool, you can make a secure gift to the 21st Century Fund and also have the option to designate your gift for a particular area of support within the college. We appreciate the investment our alumni and friends make at NC State. It is because of you that together, we continue to define the future of business in North Carolina and beyond. For more information, please contact our development and external relations team, or send an email message to poolepackalumni@ncsu.edu. In the Jenkins MAC Program, alumni gifts were used for faculty support, alumni activities, and student/corporate engagement, including support for the annual Tour of Cities and Meet the Firms. Anya Reid Executive Director Development and External Relations 919.515.0502 anya_reid@ncsu.edu Vicki Rennecker-Nakayoshi Director Alumni Relations and Special Events 919.515.0391 vicki_rennecker-nakayoshi@ncsu.edu Scott Troutman Director Development and External Relations 919.515.6952 scott_troutman@ncsu.edu Susan Hall Executive Assistant 919.513.2698 susan_hall@ncsu.edu

ALUMNI PARTICIPATION GROWS: Your gift makes a difference! Your gift, each and every year, of any size, makes a difference. Supporting the Annual Fund at the Poole College of Management allows the college to respond to unexpected opportunities and support key priorities in any given year. And your gift helps strengthen our reputation, adding to the value of your own degree. Annual giving participation from alumni to the college is one of the measures used by US News and World Report when ranking business school programs. NC State s fiscal year runs from July 1 until June 30. Last fiscal year, the Poole College of Management s annual giving brought in more than $90,000, a 21% increase from the prior year. We also experienced a 17% increase in donor participation from PCOM alumni. NC State as a whole saw similar upward trends across the entire campus. This past year was especially significant given the 125th Anniversary Challenge. If you gave back to the Pack last year, your gift not only secured the $125,000 unrestricted gift to NC State from Tom E. Cabaniss, 72; your gift also led to the highest alumni donor count in over a decade. Our entire collective community benefits when you make a gift. By doing so, you play a personal role in strengthening the Poole College of Management brand and that of NC State University. Thank you!
