SPANISH HOMEWORK CURRICULUM YEAR 8 TERM 1 Topic: A Spanish Fair / Party Food & Drink To create a detailed Spanish Menu for your own Spanish restaurant. You can do this on the computer or by hand. Weeks 1-3 To create a poster for the European Day of Languages advertising words in foreign languages and the importance of foreign languages. Due 18th September Week 4 Begin creating a menu in Spanish: Design your menu layout and content and decide on a name for your restaurant. You will receive a hand out with details. Due W/B 22 September Create the page in your menu for Las Bebidas Drinks and add prices in Euros. First Menu Draft to be Submitted. Due WB 29th September Week 6 Add in a page for starters and snacks Primer Platos y Tapas with pictures and prices. Second Menu Draft to be submitted. Due WB 6th October

Week 7 Redraft from feedback and create the main course page of your menu Segundo platos and dessert page including pictures and prices in euros don t forget to add prices and pictures. Due WB 13th October Week 8 Final Menu submitted. Due WB 20th October TERM 2 Topic: Food & Drink Continued. To create a detailed Spanish Menu for your own Spanish restaurant. Week 9 Tapas Research typical Spanish food and find the recipes of two Spanish dishes that you like the look of. Due WB 3rd November 0 Tapas Submit your two Spanish Recipes with ingredients and quantities translated into Spanish. Due WB 10th November 1 Translate the recipe into Spanish using what you have learnt in Spanish. Due WB 17th November 2 Submit first Recipe Draft. Due WB 24th November 3 Make your Spanish Dish and take photos. Due WB 1st December

4 Write a paragraph on what you thought about the dish you made including your opinions of it. Due WB 8th December 5 Submit Recipe sheet and a paragraph on your opinions of the dish. Due WB 15th December TERM 3 Topic: Un viaje por Espana Description: To create a tourist guide for one of the 17 regions of Spain. Front cover. Decide on the region of Spain and do some research on the area. Places of historical interest. Research any places of historical interest, include a brief description of each of them and images. Week 3 Typical food. Research the typical food from that region of Spain. Describe it briefly and illustrate it. Week 4 Traditional music, dance and festivals. Research the traditional music/dance and any festivals of that region. Write a brief description of them, when they take place (month), why, origins of the festival and illustrate it. Traditional Costume. Research the regional costume for that part of Spain. Describe it and draw a picture and/or find an image.

Week 6 Submit the guide for your chosen region. Do the final touches to your Tourist Guide for the region of Spain you chose. Ensure you don t have spelling mistakes, it is colourful, has images etc. TERM 4 Topic: Frases Utiles Description: To create a Spanish-English phrasebook. Front cover. Design the front cover of your phrasebook. Greetings, Days of week, Numbers, Times. Create the first page(s) of your phrasebook which must contain: greetings, how to ask someone s name, age, nationality and birthday, days of the week, numbers and times. Week 3 Places in town and directions. Create the next page(s) of your phrasebook. You need to include how to ask for directions and give directions in Spanish. Include the prepositions of place (opposite, next to, on the right, on the left, between, behind, in front of ) Include images to illustrate your directions and prepositions. Week 4 REAL LEARNING WEEK Asking for food and drink. Create the next page(s) in your book by illustrating key phrases and vocabulary on how to buy food and order a meal at a restaurant.

Week 6 Currency conversion. Do some research on the currency used in Spain. Get images of all the different euro notes and coins and create a page with some examples on how to convert Pounds to Euros. (How many euros would you get for..?) TERM 5 Topic En el medico (At the doctor s) Students will create a First Aid guide to help tourists travelling to Spain. Students will take part in a drama performance in Spanish staged in a doctor s surgery and they will need to practise/learn their lines. Learning vocabulary and phrases. Front Cover: Guia de Primeros Auxilios - Learn vocabulary related to body parts, and ailments. - Design the front cover for your First Aid Guide. (GUIA DE PRIMEROS AUXILIOS) Deadline 25 April Practise vocabulary and phrases. Las partes del cuerpo (body parts) - Use the worksheets to help you practice using the verb Doler to express what is wrong with someone when going to the doctor s or the chemist s. - Create the first page of your First Aid Guide by illustrating all the body parts in Spanish and giving examples of how to say that something is hurting. Deadline 2 May Week 3 Los Remedios (Remedies) - Create the next page of your first aid guide by illustrating remedies (medicines) and how to say what you must do. - You also need to include an example of a conversation on how to buy medicines at the chemist s. - Practise/learn your role play lines. Deadline 9 May

Week 4 En el medico (At the doctor s) Consejos para una vida sana. (Advice for a healthy lifestyle) - Create the next pages of your first aid guide by illustrating a conversation simulating going to the doctor s and giving advice on what to do to have a healthy lifestyle. - Continue practising/memorising your role play lines. Deadline 16 May Presentation - Make the final amendments to your first aid guide and ensure you cover all the points required before you submit it. - Practise your role play as you will have to present it to the rest of the class. Deadline 23 May TERM 6 Topic De Vacaciones (On holiday) To create a holiday itinerary for the summer holidays. This will be presented to the class orally. Learning Vocabulary and phrases. Revise the vocabulary about countries and revise how to form the present /future tense. Deadline 6 June Learning Vocabulary and phrases. Learn the vocabulary about different means of transport and accommodation and practise using the worksheets given and Linguascope. Deadline 13 June

Week 3/4 Research Research into type of holidays you are interested in and what you could do each day. (Educational visits/ Sun and Sea holidays / Cruise / Adventure Holidays ) Deadline 27 June /6 Designing Itinerary Design an itinerary for your holiday 1. Your holiday must be at least one week long. 2. Your itinerary must be in Spanish. 3. Include timings where possible. Deadline 12 July Week 6 Presentation Practice presenting your itinerary as you have to present it to the rest of the class. Deadline 18 July
