STUTTGART, GERMANY High above the Neckar valley and on the edge of the city of Stuttgart, in the district of Vaihingen, Stuttgart Media University has its main Campus. In the immediate neighbourhood, the Mensa (cafeteria), student accommodation and numerous research institutes can be found, only three tram stations from the city centre. Being the capital city of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart has a lot to offer and is an attractive city to live and study in. Over 40,000 young people study at universities in the Swabian metropolis. Many local companies and institutions offer attractive workplaces in industry, and in the service and media sectors: Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Bosch, Klett, SWR or Motor Presse Stuttgart are located here. There are many parks and green areas, a great cultural scene, iconic city districts with a bustling club scene, vineyards in the heart of the city, mineral baths for relaxation and much more - in short: the city is all about a high quality of life. STUTTGART MEDIA UNIVERSITY Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart Since the 1st September 2000, Stuttgart Media University has brought together the combined know-how of the former University of Printing and Media, an educational institution with over 100 years of tradition, and the University of Librarianship and Information whose history reaches back to 1942. With 16 Bachelor s degree programmes and 6 Master s degree programmes, a part-time MBA, and a doctoral programme, Stuttgart Media University covers a broad spectrum of media expertise: from printed media to electronic media, from mass media and media theory to media production, from media design to making media available. At Stuttgart Media University, students learn in modern lecture theatres as well as in workshops and studios, at printing machines or behind the camera. Exciting practical projects in the University s laboratories or in cooperation with partner companies complement theoretical knowledge and scientific working methods. Originally the university had two campusses. ACCOMODATION & LIVING Living Costs The general estimate is that students in Stuttgart need around 800 to 850 per month to cover all costs. This is, of course, dependent on personal needs and habits. The Studierendenwerk Stuttgart owns and maintains several student dorms in Stuttgart, many of them situated near campus or on campus itself. Stuttgart Media University will inform you in time when to apply, which student dorms you can apply for, and give you instruction on how to fill out the online application form. Transport Since public transport in the Stuttgart region is very good, it is not necessary to have a car. VVS public transit association provides an extensive network of lines with integrated timetables and effective connection schedules to the traveling public. VVS tickets can be used on all subways, commuter trains, streetcars, buses, the cog railway and the cable car. Students are able to purchase the StudiTicket which allows for unlimited travel throughout the VVS network and are valid for 6 calendar months. 7
