DUAL CREDIT FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GENERAL INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY The University will follow the requirements for participation as stated in the state legislation. A student wishing dual credit for a high school course and a University course must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA on 14 high school core units. Only those students seeking high school credit as well as University credit will be able to enroll under these circumstances. Please note that enrollment under dual credit does not mean automatic acceptance to The University of Mississippi. To be accepted to attend the University, the student must meet the regular admission requirements as stated in all of the University s publications. COURSES OFFERED The University will supply a complete list of courses offered both live and through online services. While most students will be limited to courses at the 100 or 200 levels, some exceptions may be considered for advanced students on an individual basis. High school students will take courses with the same requirements and same grading scale as University students. TUITION AND FEES Students will be charged the regular fees for courses taken through the Bursar s Office, just as any other student is charged. Books and materials are the responsibility of the student. CLASS ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR Students in this program are subject to the same attendance and behavior policies required of all enrolled students. Disciplinary matters will follow procedures outlined in the University s Handbook of Standards and Activities (M Book). GRADES Students may view grades through the myolemiss portal. If you are receiving high school credit your school may require an official transcript as record of your grade and credit hours. The University typically does not release grades to parents. Please be aware that your grade does go on your permanent academic transcript. A University of Mississippi transcript is a complete record of a student s enrollment in UM, including all undergraduate and graduate courses. WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURE A Dual Credit student wishing to withdraw from a course must have written permission from his/her high school to withdraw. That permission should be sent to the Division of Outreach. A student withdrawing from a course is subject to the same rules as any other University student and must meet deadlines for refunds as published in the University calendar. HOW TO ENROLL 1. The high school must approve the University course for dual credit. The University will supply a copy of the syllabus of any course to the high schools to assist in their decisions. 2. The high school must notify the University in writing of its agreement to accept the University course for dual credit. 3. Once the high school has approved the course for dual credit, the student then must apply for admission to the University through dual credit. A onetime application fee of $35 is required at the time of application. If the Admissions Application fee was not paid during the Undergra d u ate Ap p l i c at i o n process, please send the fee of $35 for Mississippi residents or $50 for non-residents to the Dual Cre d i t office. 4. The Division of Outreach will complete the application process through the Admissions specialist assigned to Outreach. 5. The student will be notified of acceptance for dual e n rollment and will be given instructions on how to enroll for the course (depending upon the manner of delivery of the course) and how to purchase textbooks and materials. 6. Contact for the student and the high school will be maintained through the Division of Outreach. PAYMENT POLICIES 1. Students will be charged the regular fees for courses taken through the Bursar's Office. 2. Books and materials are the responsibility of the student. (continued)
