1. Policy Statement The Peter Carnley Anglican Community School (PCACS) uniform has been designed to develop a school identity and to foster school spirit. High standards of presentation and grooming are important in the School as this provides an important statement about the School and its values. Presentation can also give an indication of how students see themselves personally and how they perceive their School. Students are expected to wear the uniform with a sense of pride. The uniform is to be worn correctly at all times. 2. The wearing of School Uniform Students are required to wear the uniform within the prescribed limits at all times whilst attending and travelling to and from the School. Students are not permitted to attend the School or School related activities not dressed in School uniform without prior approval of the Principal, Head of Sub School or Director of Pastoral Care. Enforcing dress standards is a shared responsibility among the staff, students and parents. Parent responsibility is important to assist in ensuring standards are met. All uniforms are to be kept clean, pressed and in good condition. Shoes are to be well polished and boys shirts are to be tucked in. 3. The School Uniform The following general information is provided on standards expected of students at PCACS: 3.1 Formal Uniform Formal Uniform is to be worn by students on various occasions throughout the School year unless otherwise directed by the Principal. Wearing of School Blazer The Blazer must be worn to and from School (Years 10-12). Students may choose to wear their Jumper under their Blazer. Wearing of School Jumper The School Jumper must be worn to and from School (Years 3 9) Students may not wear the Jumper with sleeves pulled / pushed up. Sleeves of jumpers are to be worn at wrist level. The jumper may be worn with the Summer Uniform. 3.3 Sports Uniform Summer Sports Uniform - Boys & Girls Burgundy polo shirt (Years 3-6) Navy polo shirt (Years 7-12) Sports shorts PCACS socks (mid for girls, crew for boys) Sports shoes House shirt on specified carnival sports days Winter Sports Uniform - Boys & Girls Full tracksuit pants and jacket (Years 3-12) Burgundy polo shirt (Years 3-6) Navy polo shirt (Years 7-12) Sports shorts PCACS socks (mid for girls, crew for boys) Sports shoes House shirt on specified carnival sports days 3.4 Wearing of the Sports Uniform Years 3-6 students are to wear their full sport uniform (tracksuit) to and from School. Sports shorts are not permitted to be worn to and from School with only the tracksuit jacket. The full tracksuit must be worn if wearing the tracksuit to and from School. Tracksuit items can be removed for the sport activity once the student is at School. Years 7-12 Students are to wear their School Uniform to and from School. Students can change into their Sports Uniform at School. Students are to change back into their School Uniform once the sporting activity is complete. Students are to leave the School grounds wearing their School Uniform. Tracksuit trousers are not to be worn rolled up. S011 Page 5 Student Uniform Handbook
Sports Shoes are to be predominately white with athletic support, e.g. cross trainers. They are to have white laces only - not to have fluoro coloured laces. For health and safety reasons, sports shoes must provide adequate support for physical activity and be firmly laced at all times. Slip-ons, loafers, Dunlop volleys and similar are not appropriate. Sports specific shoes for sports such as basketball, football, cricket, golf, running etc. may be worn if suitable for a physical education class activity and under the direction of a class teacher. X 3.5 Swimming Swimming - Interschool Competitions Male and female students competing and representing the School swim team are only to wear the PCACS bathers and swim caps. These are purchased from the School's Uniform Shop. Swimming Interhouse Competitions Female students competing in House swimming events are to wear one-piece bathers. Bikinis or bikini tops with boardshorts are not permitted to be worn. Male students may wear racing bathers, swimming trunks / briefs. Boardshorts and watershorts are not permitted. Male and female students are permitted to wear their School sports shorts over their bathers whilst swimming. 3.6 Sports Bag The purchase of a School Sports Bag is not compulsory but recommended for students to carry their sports items to and from School. General sports bags are not permitted. Students representing PCACS at events such as Interschool carnivals are required to have the School Sports Bag. 3.7 Early Learning Uniform Summer Uniform Kindergarten to Year 2 Sports shorts Burgundy polo shirt PCACS mid socks and white runners every day House polo shirts are optional and may be worn on specific sports carnival days. Sports shorts are optional if your child wishes to wear them during the day 3.8 Wearing of the Early Learning Uniform Summer Uniform Your child must wear their full tracksuit to and from School. They can wear their tracksuit top with their shorts during the School day. Winter Uniform The full tracksuit must be worn to and from School. The track pants can be removed once your child is at School if your child wishes to wear shorts during winter. 4. School Uniform Guidelines 4.1 Underclothing Student underclothing is to be either white or skin tones and is not to have motifs or patterns that are clearly visible through the white shirt or sports polo top. 4.2 Hemlines Hemlines on girls skirts are to be modest and in keeping with the formal nature of the uniform. The minimum length of hems is to be level with the middle of the kneecap. The maximum length of the hem is 9cm below the middle of the kneecap. 4.3 Shoes The only acceptable shoes in School uniform are black college type, lace up shoes. The shoes are to be cleaned regularly. Boots are not to be worn unless approval has been given by the Principal. Fashion higher heels are not to be worn. (Heels more than 1.5cm are not permitted). 4.4 Socks Students are required to wear the appropriate coloured and style of socks. Girls: white PCACS school mid socks. Boys: when wearing shorts PCACS white school socks. when wearing navy trousers plain navy socks. when wearing grey trousers plain black socks. 4.5 Tights The formal uniform for girls includes school navy blue tights. Tights are to be neat and worn properly. Tights with holes or ladders are not to be worn. It is recommended that all girls who wear tights have a spare pair in their locker or bag. The only tights to be worn at School are those purchased from the School s Uniform Shop. 4.6 Jumpers Students are permitted to wear the burgundy school jumper which can be purchased from the Uniform Shop. No other colour is permitted. Jumpers must be in a good state of repair and fit correctly. When worn the sleeves are to be fully down and must not extend over the hands. The jumper is not to be stretched out of shape. 4.7 Hat / Gloves Students are required to wear their School hat when outdoors at School. The hat is to be worn when participating in play or at sport at School. Year 7 12 students are permitted to wear a PCACS Sports Cap during sports only. No other hat / cap is permitted to be worn. Plain navy gloves and School scarves are optional with winter uniform. Beanies are not permitted to be worn. 4.8 Bicycle Helmets Students cycling to School must wear approved helmets. Bikes must be road worthy. 4.9 School Bag The only school bag that is permitted is the PCACS School bag. 4.10 Hair Hair is to be clean and neatly groomed whenever in School uniform. Fringes are to be above eyebrows. Hair is to be tied / clipped back away from the face. S011 Page 8 Student Uniform Handbook
Students are to maintain their natural hair colour. Hair is not to be rinsed, tinted, streaked, tipped or coloured or artificially extended. Students are not to attend school with novelty styles. Girls o Hair is to be tied back if below the collar and must not interfere with the wearing of the School hat. o Accessories (scrunchies, headbands, or hair ribbons) worn in the hair can only be worn if they are plain in design and in School colours (navy, burgundy, black). o Hair clips or combs may be worn but must be navy, black or burgundy. Boys o Hair is not to touch the collar, to be clear of the ears and not lower than the eyebrows, nor be styled in such a way that it is capable, at any time of falling forwards towards the eyes or face. o Hair is not to be shorter than a Number 3 cut. o Sideburns are not to be grown below the level of the ear canal. o No accessories / clips are to be worn in the hair. o Year 7 12 boys are to be clean shaven at all times. o Students are not to have hairstyles which consist of very short hair on the sides and long hair on the top. o In matters of hairstyle, the School remains the final arbiter. 4.11 Makeup and Nails Makeup, including lip-gloss, foundation, tinted moisturiser, eyelash enhancers, beauty treatment tinting and glitter is not permitted to be worn at School. Nail polish / varnish, French manicure and artificial / acrylic nails are not permitted to be worn at School. Girls are required to attend School without artificial beauty treatments and enhancements. Stick on / rub off tattoos are not allowed to be worn by students. 4.12 Jewellery All students are encouraged to wear a watch. Female students may wear one pair of earrings. Only plain gold or silver earrings may be worn. Earrings are to be either small sleepers (12mm maximum size) or studs (5mm). Earrings can only be worn in the ear lobe. Male students are not permitted to wear earrings. No other visible body piercing is permitted. Other body piercing will not be accepted as a reason for being excused from school activities. Students wearing jewellery outside these rules will have the item confiscated and returned at the end of the term. 4.13 Sunglasses In order to protect students from the possible damage to their eyes or vision, sunglasses can be worn when outdoors. In order to maintain school dress standards and expectations sunglasses are to be of a conservative design, either in navy or black. 4.14 Casual / Free Dress Day Occasionally students may be permitted to wear casual clothing. The decision for this to occur is made by the Principal. The following guidelines apply to the wearing of casual dress: Students should wear neat, casual clothing. Any student not complying with the dress standards will be removed from the activities. Students who wish to wear School Uniform may do so. Normal timetable will apply on the day and students will require their books, equipment and other items necessary for their lessons. Modesty Girls need to be modest in their style of clothing. Tops / shirts Bare midriffs, shoestring tops, low cut tops, skimpy or see-through clothing is not permitted. Any slogans or motifs which are in poor taste or contain offensive language on T-shirts etc, are not permitted. Both boys and girls tops must be of such a length that they could be tucked into trousers, shorts, skirts, jeans, etc, or left out, so that no skin shows between the top and the bottom garments. In short, midriff type tops are not permitted. Underwear No underwear is allowed to be showing, this includes ladies bra straps, jeans or shorts being worn low, showing underwear. Shorts / Skirts / Dresses Shorts / skirts and dresses are to be worn at knee length. Students who wear shorts / skirts / dresses around the upper thigh area will be asked to change into more appropriate attire. Shoes Closed shoes are compulsory. This is a health and safety issue as students may be involved in sporting activities on the day. Therefore, S011 Page 10 Student Uniform Handbook
thongs, scuffs, bare feet, or open shoes of any style are not permitted. Roller shoes are also not permitted. Makeup Makeup is not permitted to be worn at School for all casual / free dress day. i.e. makeup, including lip-gloss, foundation, tinted moisturiser, eyelash enhancers, beauty treatment tinting and glitter is not permitted to be worn at School. Character Costume Character costume day refers to students dressing as characters from books and not celebrity / television / movie personalities.
