COURSE DESCRIPTION: A rigorous discussion of algebra concepts necessary for calculus are the focal points of this course. Topics include an in depth investigation of algebraic functions and their graphs and solutions of systems of equations. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: Solve polynomial, exponential and logarithmic equations. Work with the Cartesian coordinate system, being able to graph linear, exponential, polynomial absolute value, square root, piecewise defined, rational and logarithmic functions. Understand function concepts, including operations on functions, and inverse functions. Solve systems of linear and nonlinear equations. Apply and extend all concepts. PREREQUISITES and TRANFERABILITY: Math 96 or Math 97 both with a grade of C or better; or a satisfactory ACT/SAT/Placement Test score. Note: This course serves as a prerequisite course for MATH 127 and is essential for students planning to take calculus CALCULATORS: A scientific calculator is required and graphing calculators are recommended. Laptops, palm tops, PDAs, and cell phones are NOT acceptable alternatives for a calculator. Scientific calculators can be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree or 99 Cents only stores. Graphing calculators can be purchased at Target, Wal-Mart, or Office Depot. WATCHES: No watches can be worn on test days or the final exam day.

Withdrawal: If you stop attending the course you will NOT be assigned a W or Withdrawal grade; you will receive a grade based on the total points you have earned in the course, which, more than likely, will be an "F" to denote you failed the course. If you wish to be withdrawn from this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop the course by the drop date listed in the college catalog/schedule of classes. Materials: If supplemental Materials are provided in the course. You are responsible for understanding the materials presented in those pages. Although no graded assignment will be

directly associated with those materials, some Quiz/Exam questions will be gleaned from that material. Quizzes will be announced and there will be NO makeup for

missed quizzes, although I will drop your lowest quiz score. Mark your calendars NOW with the scheduled exam days; there will be NO makeup for missed tests. If you have an emergency which causes you to miss one test, I will replace your 0% test score with the score you receive on your Final Exam.
