LEARNING IN REAL-LIFE ASSIGNMENTS AND RDI PROJECTS Northern richness HEROES OF THE CONDITIONS In addition to providing higher education, we conduct applied research, development and innovation (RDI) activities that serve and benefit companies and other organisations by developing better practices and processes and creating competitive advantage. Succeeding because of the conditions, not in spite of them. We work in close cooperation with our partners, who include local actors as well as national and international institutes of higher education, companies, public administrations and actors in the third sector. Our passion is continuous development and the creation of new innovations. YOUNG BRAIN POWER Students are engaged in projects and the planning and production of services. Various assignments, like theses and internships, are also great ways to become familiar with and find just the right kinds of future employees. Learning, research and development are integrated into diverse learning and development environments and realised in a working life-oriented way. Students participate in working life-oriented learning in, for example, Lapland UAS projects, assignments from companies and practical training that promotes professional skills. The amount of practical training that promotes professional skills in real-life workplaces varies from 30 to 90 ECTS credit units between different training programmes. The theses are working life-oriented and aim to develop companies and organisations. Involvement in working life development projects improves the students project work skills and working life capabilities. FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT Measurement, analysis, research, product development and other development tasks targeted at the business life are usually implemented in our development environments. For students, the development environments are practical, hands-on learning environments. The development environments are either physical spaces, like laboratories, or a network of experts and an operating model independent of location. At the moment, there are already twenty advanced development environments at Lapland University of Applied Sciences. Our facilities in Kemi, Rovaniemi and Tornio are stateof-the-art. The facilities and equipment are also open for external customers. You are welcome to visit us! 14 Study in Lapland
