General Expectations Core classes run on continuous A/B 100 minutes block schedule HOPE, Spanish and Elective classes are offered every day for 50 minutes Do homework the day it is given. Have all assignments done when due. Have all materials ready to be used for each class. Read the textbook and/or watch lectures ahead. Take notes from textbook or video lectures.

General Expectations Cont. Pay attention in class and take notes. Participate in class discussions. Ask relevant questions. If contacting a teacher, mind your (e-mail) etiquette. You study for YOURSELF! You do not study for the sake of your teacher, your parents or anyone else. YOU benefit from studying and learning. Students are expected to come to class prepared = understanding and knowing every concept covered.

Communication Students may contact the teacher in person or through email. Student independence is encouraged and expected. Parents are encouraged to allow students to resolve their school matters on their own. The school s Guidance Counselor is also available by appointment for group conferences, as needed.

Attendance Attend all classes. Unless you are REALLY sick, come to school! If you are absent, notify the teacher. Parents/guardians must notify the front desk before 9 am to be considered an excused absence. Be on time. Arrive in class early if possible.

Missing Work due to Absence Students will be allowed one (1) day to make up missing work and tests for each day of an excused absence. No make up of classwork, homework or tests will be allowed for unexcused absences.

Assignments Parent(s)/guardian(s) direct involvement with school work should diminish as a child enters high school and develops his/her own independent work skills in order to prepare the students for university success. Expect three to five hours of study and/or homework time per day. No late classwork and homework assignments will be accepted.

Academic Probation Students in high school are automatically placed on academic probation if any of the following occur: Receive more than one C grades in the same quarter Probationary students do not participate in any after-school or away-from-school activities, including sports activities.

Exiting Students from the Program Receive a D or F grade in any subject during any of the four quarters Students who do not meet the GPA requirements at FAU high will be recommended and helped to transition to a new school.

Cheating Academic Integrity The unauthorized use of notes, books, electronic devices, or other study aids while taking an examination or working on an assignment. Providing unauthorized assistance to or receiving assistance from another student during an examination or while working on an assignment. Securing an exam, receiving an unauthorized copy of an exam, or sharing a copy of an exam. Plagiarism The presentation of words from any other source or another person as one s own without proper quotation and citation. Putting someone else s ideas or facts into your own words (paraphrasing) without proper citation. Turning in someone else s work as one s own, including the buying and selling of term papers or assignments.

Academic Integrity Cont. Other Forms of Dishonesty Falsifying or inventing information, data, or citations. Failing to comply with examination regulations or failing to obey the instructions of an examination proctor. Procedures If the instructor determines that there is sufficient evidence to believe that a student engaged in dishonesty, the instructor will meet with the student at the earliest possible opportunity and provide notice to the student, parents and administration to determine the consequences.

After School No after school supervision will be provided. Students must vacate the building at 2:45 PM unless they participate in after school sports, clubs or participating in teacher sponsored study sessions.

History The goal of this class is to help each student achieve a better understanding of how our history dating back to the first written records and earlier have shaped the world we live in and continue to impact our lives. This course is also designed to prepare you for the workload, pace and structure of the college classes you will experience in tenth grade. Strongly recommended you purchase your own copy of the textbook. You will learn how to annotate a textbook and how to take notes in order to work smarter and not harder. This course requires critical thinking and deductive reasoning, you will need to remember what you learned on the very first day of school and know how to use it on the last day of school. Three different types of writing, CCOT, DBQ and Compare/Contrast Time management, organization, and time management!

ipads Students are required to have ipads in 9 th grade. Information will be emailed within the next few weeks with all the details.

HOPE and Physical Education Students are expected to dress out during the PE portion of HOPE. Appropriate footwear must be worn (sneakers that lace up). One school PE uniform will be issued to all students attending FAU High during the first week of school. A second set can be purchased for $16 ($8 for shorts, $8 for shirt). Students are also allowed to provide their own uniforms as long as they are school colors (navy blue and white).

Mathematics cont. Geometry, Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus classes are offered in 9 th grade. If taking Geometry on FLVS, complete it by July 22 nd and take the EOC. If taking Algebra 2 on FLVS, complete it before school starts. There is no EOC for Algebra 2. Do not rush through either courses! If you have not registered yet, take those classes in 9 th grade. Spanish A university level course that has different expectations, grading scale, and policy than the high school classes (syllabus will provide all necessary details). The course is divided into semesters (Fall & Spring) and not quarters as the other HS courses. Grades earned will affect the student's overall GPA, and in order to receive credit, student's must earn a grade of C or higher. Absences will result in a loss of participation points for each day of absence unless a doctor's note is provided or the absence meets one of the university's allowances such as religious observances (all outlined in syllabus).

Spanish Cont. A three ring binder is required for the course that will be used for the textbook and student notebook. Students will be required to participate daily in interactive communicative activities in Spanish with their peers and assigned participation points for their effort. Students will present (2) two oral exams and write compositions in Spanish. The make-up work policy for HS classes does not apply to this university course. No late work is accepted on online homework assignments regardless of reason for absence. All pertinent details are outlined in the syllabus.
