August & September 2017 Page 5 First Street School Safety Awareness Day! Thursday, October 19, 2017 Contributed by Christine Cirrone Safety Awareness Day is a way to teach the elementary school children of Lincoln how to be Safe in a friendly and exciting venue that young children can understand and will enjoy! This event, a Signature Program of the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills, will cover lessons in safety relating to the Home, the School, Personal Safety and Safety throughout our Community. The first Safety Day was held last year at the Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School and was a HUGE success. Our goal is to bring Safety Awareness Day into every elementary school in Lincoln on a rotating yearly schedule. Many dignitaries from our community attended and will again be invited to enjoy the day along with news coverage from local newspapers and television. Kiwanis Members; the Lincoln Police Department, along with California Highway Patrol with K-9; the Lincoln Fire Department; Union Pacific Railroad; Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), citizen volunteers; and others will be set up in stations along the inside courtyard. Every child, in every grade can visit each station but here is where we need your help - the cooperation of teachers and staff members is vital to the success of this event! Principal Ruben Ayala and the Safety Day Committee have been working out the details. We will assist you in building the schedule for classes to rotate through each station, lasting approximately 20 minutes per class/per station. We would love to have all children participate in the day s events wherever possible and count on you to make this big event work! Additionally, on a day soon after the event, in order to reinforce the important lessons learned, we ask that each classroom consider running a Poster Contest where children are asked to make a poster showing their favorite part of the day. Kiwanis will be happy to give the winning poster a special treat Ice Cream for the Entire Class. Thank you for your willingness to work with us for the benefit of the children of Lincoln! Christine Cirrone Chairperson, Safety Awareness Day Committee

August & September 2017 Page 7 Elementary Schools Chrome Books Donation Contributed by Beth Roberts On September 6th, a group of us delivered the second check to Sheridan Elementary for $750. They were, as you can imagine, thrilled. We got a picture of us with the kids and the new principal, Emily Ortiz holding the giant "fake" check with the total amount we gave Sheridan, $1,500.00. I think our focus on technology is exciting and very much what the schools need. Thanks for all that you do and have done to make these donations possible. Thank you so much for all you do. It's incredible!!!!! Beth Yes, Two New Members! August & September 2017 Page 9 2017 Lincoln Showcase Contributed by Mary Luciano Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Needs Us! Christine Cirrone will have a sign-up sheet at the next two meetings. We are looking for volunteers to work at the Chamber of Commerce Lincoln Showcase that will be held on September 23, 2017 from 6:30pm-10:00pm in the Beermann Plaza. We are hoping to get a minimum of 10 Kiwanians to volunteer, and of course, more is even better. This is an opportunity to let Lincoln know about Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills. Volunteers are needed to serve wine, work stations, help with clean-up, etc. You will be assigned a task by the Chamber of Commerce Event Committee. As a volunteer, you are given a free ticket to get in. You then must work a minimum of two hours. After you have worked your time, you get to enjoy the event. Please consider volunteering for this event. Our local Restaurants, Wineries and Breweries will be showcasing their products. We often go to these establishments requesting donations for our events. Let s help them by volunteering to make this event successful. Without volunteers this event could not happen. Consider volunteering! Not only will you get to know more people in the community, but you get the opportunity to wear your badge and talk about Kiwanis. I must say the Wines, Beers and Food that are free to all volunteers are great too!
