The traditional boys boarding prep school

welcome Sunningdale is a special place. We are a small, traditional, family school where everybody matters. Our aim is to help every boy to achieve his potential, to love being at school and to be confident and ready to make the most of all of the opportunities on offer. We encourage boys to be involved in as much as possible. We expect them to work hard and to throw themselves into life outside the classroom. We want them to try new things and to discover that spark that really ignites their enthusiasm. We are traditional in ethos. Sunningdale boys are well-mannered and they are kind and considerate to one another. We are also forward looking in our approach. Our aim is to combine the best of new ideas and technologies with what we know works. I am very proud of Sunningdale; there is nowhere quite like it. I hope you will come and see us and get a sense of what a unique place this is. Tom Dawson Headmaster

school life Being part of a smaller school means that each boy has the chance to shine and no-one gets forgotten. Our tutor system also means that they have a mentor who checks that they are getting the most out of every day. All boys are different and the great strength of Sunningdale is that they can all find things to enjoy and they all feel valued for their individual talents and interests.

academic life Academic achievement is an essential part of a successful school career. We believe that a varied and balanced curriculum, delivered by passionate and dedicated teachers, helps the boys develop into well-rounded pupils with a thirst for knowledge who are not afraid to put up their hands. Small classes mean that the needs of every boy can be met and with our flexible form structure, they can be challenged or supported as appropriate. For those that need a little extra help, excellent learning support blends seamlessly with subject teaching. Sunningdale s results at Common Entrance and Scholarship are among the very best. Sunningdalians go on to the top public schools with whom we maintain very close ties.

boarding life First and foremost, school should be fun. Boarding offers the boys something that they cannot get elsewhere. They learn to be confident, tolerant and independent. They learn to make the most of their time and build friendships that will last a lifetime. There is never a dull moment at Sunningdale; there is always something for the boys to get stuck into. Evenings are full of clubs and activities, weekends are jam-packed and every boy will have masses to write home about in their weekly letters. Life in the dorms is like one giant sleepover. Our fantastic team of matrons are always on hand to celebrate the boys successes, light the birthday candles and deal with the bumps, bruises and lost socks which are part of a busy school life.

sport Our stunning grounds and extensive facilities provide endless opportunities for the boys. As well as the major team sports, the boys have the chance to try a huge range of other activities which they may not have come across before. Every boy gets to be in a team, so important for building confidence, and they love donning the school colours and swapping stories after matches.

the arts We are committed to offering the boys plenty of scope to express their creative sides. Most boys play at least one musical instrument and the regular concerts are very popular. The Art Department is always open with boys working in a wide range of different media, from pencil to pottery; collage to canvas. The large number of scholarships is testament to their enthusiasm for the subject. Several drama productions are staged in our theatre throughout the year. The annual musical is a particular highlight and every boy gets to play a role.

further afield Boys are happy when they are busy. As well all the activities they enjoy at school, boys regularly take part in various visits and trips. We are within easy reach of London, with its theatres, galleries and museums; we have our own house in Normandy, to which groups of boys go to bring the language learned in the classroom to life; the ski trip is hugely popular with boys and parents and the leavers trip is a particular highlight.
