We will begin by unpacking terms such as algorithms and programs, and look at practical approaches for teaching these ideas. Teachers will explore a range of equipment and software for teaching computing, such as BeeBots, LOGO and Scratch, and have a go at writing their own simple programs. All delegates will be provided a copy of the IT & Computing scheme of work, with suggestions for where to look for further resources and information. Teaching Reading Part 1: Phonics - Implementing Letters & Sounds Target Audience: Reception and KS1 teachers, NQTs, English Coordinators Date: 7th October 2014 Teaching Reading Part 1 can be completed on its own or as part of our 3-part reading course Cost: 70 Course Preparation: knowledge of the Primary National Strategy Letters and Sounds synthetic phonics programme Campus This course aims to familiarise teachers with the most effective strategies for delivering the Letters and Sounds phonics programme, to enable pupils to be Reading by Six (OFSTED 2010) and to achieve the expectations in the new English National Curriculum. Teachers will be shown how to plan daily phonics sessions which follow the review-teach-practice-apply sequence. They will take part in a range of phonic activities which teach pupils to listen for and discriminate between sounds, blend phonemes to read words, segment words into phonemes to spell words and strategies for teaching the spelling of tricky/high frequency words. Part of the session will also cover teachers own subject knowledge of the 44 phonemes and various graphemes which represent them, as well as assessment systems and procedures which set high expectations and accelerate progress. Drama, Role Play Areas & Talk for Writing Target Audience: Reception, KS1 & KS2 teachers, NQTs, English Coordinators Date: 25th November 2014 This course advocates the use of role play areas throughout the primary age range to inspire and motivate pupils to learn independently and to primarily develop pupils literacy skills. Teachers will have the opportunity to visit role play areas in classrooms across the school and be shown how to incorporate role play areas effectively into their curriculum plans. The course will demonstrate how to use drama techniques to develop pupils comprehension skills as well as their speech. Teacher modelling will be used to demonstrate Campus how pupils should learn to talk the text type, as well as assess and improve the level of their speech. This will include approaches such as partitioning, bridging, counting on or back and near doubles. They will be shown a range of resources to ensure whole class interaction and to support pupils in developing the important skill of Campus visualisation. Using ipads across the Curriculum Target Audience: EYFS, KS1 & 2 teachers, NQTs, ICT Coordinators Date: 3rd March 2015 The ipad has the potential to be a powerful and mobile tool for learning across the whole curriculum. This course will develop teachers confidence in using an ipad and demonstrate how it could be used to raise attainment across the curriculum. Participants will examine the difference between learning ICT and ICT for learning and use the SAMR model as a way of considering how to embed ICT into the curriculum. They will be given hands-on experience to explore a range of educational ipad apps, with suggestions given as to how they might be used in specific subjects, i.e. using the Camera app in Literacy, Campus Explain Everything in Numeracy, Keynote and Safari in Geography etc. The course will then give time for teachers to reflect on how they might use ipads in their own classroom. This will include the year groups in which the different methods should be introduced and the importance of mental strategies underpinning all written calculations. The course will explore the importance of teaching problem solving (Using and Applying) and how to plan for this during every maths unit using the reviewteach-practice-apply sequence. This will include studying significant artists and their work, to examine composition, scale and subject matter. 30p fruit money30p fruit money Film Making with imovie Target Audience: KS1 /2 teachers, NQTs, ICT Coordinators Date: 28th April 2015 Campus This course aims to give teachers the confidence to use film as a tool across the whole curriculum for children to communicate and share their ideas, stories and experiences. Teachers will be guided through the whole film-making process, from developing the initial idea to understanding different ways of sharing the final product. The course will explain the planning stages of film production, such as scripting and storyboarding, and look at the key elements to visual story-telling. Teachers will have hands-on experience shooting and editing film footage, using digital cameras and Apple Mac software imovie. The course will then explore how to present the finished work, whether through making a DVD or uploading films so that they can be viewed on your schools MLE. The course makes use of Apple Mac computers, but the skills and understanding would be applicable when using any computing platform (PC/Linux etc). Teachers will explore the typical language issues that EAL pupils face, how to assess their speech and how to create an inclusive classroom environment.
