Hickory Tree Elementary Hawk Talk Volume 31, November 1, 2017 Happy November to you!! Soon the holiday season will be upon us, which means a lot of hustle and bustle in our lives. November allows us to take time to give thanks. I d like to THANK YOU for all of your support. I greatly appreciate your active participation in our Fall Festival last month. It was HAWK-TASTIC!! It brings joy to my heart to walk around and see students, staff, and parents having a good time at our community school! I also need to thank you for participating in our Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night and our HTE traditional annual Character Book Parade. We wouldn t be as HAWK-RIFFIC as we are without you THANK YOU! There is no better place to be in Osceola County than Hickory Tree Elementary!! November is a shorter month for us in school with the few days off for Thanksgiving! While the break is a good time for both the students and staff to rest and rejuvenate, which is needed as all work very hard, we do ask that you continue to have your child read. A great way to do it is to have them participate in our Fall Into a Good Book reading challenge. Reading is fundamental to success in school and in life! We hope that you ll join us for our November activities: *Veteran s Day Ceremony: Thursday, November 9th at 9:15 as we honor those you have served our country. *Nachos & Numbers: Tuesday, November 14th from 5:00-6:30 to have fun with math! *Gator s Spirit Night: Thursday, November 30th 4:00-10:00. Once that happens we ll spin the Wheel of Doom. November is a time to give thanks! I am VERY GRATEFUL of the students, staff, and parents of Hickory Tree Elementary! Words cannot express my fondness for the school and the community we serve. It is an honor to serve as the Principal of HTE! As I sit with my family on Thanksgiving (which is my favorite holiday), know that you will be in my heart as well!! Enjoy! HAWKS...flying to high levels! Karen Vislocky, Ed.D Principal

Then, you need to sign up for the parent portal. It s easy to use and can be accessed at any time. The Parent Portal allows parents to better monitor their child's progress in school by providing Internet access to grades, attendance, discipline, academic history, graduation verification, and standardized test results in a secure password-protected environment. Just go to this link to get started and for more information. http://osceolaschools.net/parent_resources/ parent_portal/

PAC PAC is the Parent Advisory Committee, which is a group of parents, teachers, administrators, and business partners that meet once a month to discuss issues concerning Hickory Tree Elementary. PAC also participates and organizes fundraisers, social events, and helps to support the students and teachers at school. Please come join PAC and help support your school. PAC meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month after school. LUNCH WITH YOUR STUDENT We love when you eat lunch your child, but plan accordingly. Everyone who visits for lunch will eat outside at the picnic tables. When you are eating lunch with your student, you may not invite other classmates to join you. Please check in at the front office then pick up your student in the cafeteria and return them to the cafeteria by the end of their lunch time. We encourage visits to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Out of Field Volunteers OASIS School Volunteer Program The Osceola School District's OASIS School Volunteer Program provides the opportunity for parents, businesses, and the community to enrich the education of students. OASIS volunteers extend teachers' and staffs' professional skills and assist in the effort to meet the unique needs of each and every student. As a registered OASIS volunteer, you will join over 17,000 Osceola County residents from all walks of life who willingly share their time and talents in our schools in a variety of ways. Volunteers are a vital part of the educational system in our county and are making a difference for students. To ensure safe schools for our students, the Osceola School District conducts both local and national criminal history background checks at no cost to the applicant. These background checks help identify individuals with criminal offenses which may disqualify them from serving as an OASIS school volunteer. The application process may take up to three weeks to complete. To apply please visit: http://www.osceolaschools.net/departments/ o_a_s_i_s_school_volunteer_program Any questions, please call Cheryl McGhee @ 407-891-3120. MENTORS NEEDED!
