Friday 10th- February 2017 Issue No: 98 St. Joseph s Catholic Primary School learning, growing, belonging happy together in in God s family Please visit our website that has been updated. Website: www.stjosephs.warrington.dbprimary.com Website: www.stjosephs.warrington.dbprimary.com Fr Richard s Leaving Mass After many years in the parish, Fr Richard has been appointed by His Grace, Archbishop Malcolm, as Parish Priest of St Anthony s, Scotland Rd, Liverpool. His support for all in our school community has been wonderful and he will be missed. Please join us for Mass in school at 10.30am on Thursday 16 February to say farewell. There will not be any snack available for children that day. We would like to give Fr Richard a present as a reminder of his time here with us and as a thank you for all his support. If you would like to contribute please can you send your donation in an envelope for Monday. Thank you. Parent/Teacher meetings We try to maintain an open door policy for parents to speak with teachers when necessary. However, it is important that we do not interfere with daily teaching by taking up the teacher s time at the start of the school day. If you wish to speak with a teacher or inform them about specific arrangements, please ask to speak with them at a mutually convenient time or let the office staff pass on the message. Maximising the children s learning time is essential. Parents Evenings Thanks to all for your support at our parents evenings this week. It was good to see so many parents and get the chance to say hello personally. Mr McGlinchey was very impressed with our school and really pleased to speak with so many parents. He is open to welcoming visitors to see St Gregory s live. Please contact the St Gregory s if you are keen to do so.

Sad? www.happyoksad.org.uk Much has been made in the media recently about Mental Health and specifically about the pressures on children and young people. Stress is a natural part of life and, like adults, children and young people have always been subject to various pressures. However, the developments of the internet and social media have shifted the focus in many ways. At times, there is no hiding for some from the relentless onslaught of others opinions and comments. Even the Prime Minister and the DfE and DoH have highlighted their concerns for mental health and the recent NHS paper, Future in Mind, lays out some background and principles for a proposed way forward. Please take time to look at the website above signposting routes for support.
Safeguarding Please be reminded that safeguarding the children is our priority. At the beginning of the day, please let your child go into school their normal way on their own. Likewise, for afterschool clubs, please collect your child from the hall door on the courtyard. Thanks for you continued support and understanding. Learning Support It has come to my attention that some parents are concerned about their children regularly missing elements of the curriculum if they are receiving an intervention to support progress in English or maths. We are acutely aware that each child needs to experience a broad curriculum. This not only nurtures the development of skills and knowledge in many areas but also allows children to shine in areas that are not necessarily English and maths. The core subjects of English and maths are, however, vital. If we recognise that a child is struggling in specific issues we try hard to address their needs and this can involve additional provision and/ or a fluidity in class groupings for key subjects. In order to minimise their absence from other curriculum areas, we rotate the timetable regularly. As always, we thank you for your support. New appointments We welcome some new members of staff to school at this time. Mrs Wilson as a teaching assistant in KS2 and Miss Sampson, Miss Leicester and Miss Taylor as Mid-day Assistants with Mrs Holden as the lunchtime supervisor. Welcome to all! Employer Matched Funding Request If you have volunteered to help at any PFA events and your employer operates an employer matched funding system, please will you kindly look into whether your employer could support the PFA a registered charity. (your HR intranet or a quick email/ call to your HR department will be able to confirm if it is available). If you work for United Utilities, Shop direct, Lloyds Banking Group or Royal bank of Scotland, the PFA have been very lucky to receive support from these employers and we can help you with your application if required. To give you an idea of how valuable this is to the PFA, we have received over 1200 from these 4 employers and this money massively helps us with the funding for the preparations for big events such as the Summer Fair. If you wish to discuss this system or think you may be able and are willing to apply, please contact Dawn Dawson (PFA Treasurer) on contact@stjosephspfa.org.uk or through the St Joseph s Parents Facebook page.
