This workshop presents an overview of OPWDD services such as Respite, Community Habilitation, Environmental Modifications, etc. and the role of the Medicaid Service Coordinator (MSC). Wednesday, September 10, 2014, 10am 12pm Boundaries and Socialization Learn how to teach your child socialization skills while also maintaining boundaries necessary to interact with others appropriately. Topics include establishing personal space, how to behave towards a family member versus a friend versus a stranger, etc. Thursday, September 11, 2014, 10am 12pm Developing Positive Behaviors Does your child act out at school, home, or in public? This workshop will explore typical causes for inappropriate behaviors from tantrums to physical aggression and more. Learn strategies to transform bad behaviors as well as how to develop a behavior plan for your child. How we think about people affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions. Challenges with Social Thinking are commonly experienced by individuals with autism spectrum disorder (high-functioning), social communication disorder, Asperger s, ADHD, nonverbal learning disability (NLD) and similar diagnoses. Come learn some strategies that target improving individual social thinking abilities. 2

This workshop will introduce resources for finding employment, on-the-job considerations for adults with disabilities, and evidence-based strategies and tools to maximize success in the workplace. The focus is on helping you to relax, but the techniques learned can be shared at home as well. These difficulties can range from sleeping through the night to staying in their own bed instead of sleeping with their parents. This workshop will provide you with evidence-based strategies to maximize the potential for bedtime success with your children. If you know that you will not be able to attend the FET workshop that you have registered for, you must notify us as soon as possible so that we can offer your space to another family. Topics include establishing personal space, how to behave towards a family member versus a friend versus a stranger, etc. Monday, December 22, 2014, 10am 12pm Traveling with Kids with Developmental Traveling with kids with disabilities presents unique challenges for parents and caregivers. This presentation will outline available resources for traveling on airplanes, getting through security, and making sure your children are as comfortable as possible for the journey. We will discus strategies for setting up resources in advance and how you can be confident that you are prepared for the trip. Lastly, we will share helpful tips to make traveling long distances a little easier. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, 6pm 8pm Emergency Preparedness You want to be ready if disaster strikes, especially if a child with special needs depends on you. Learn how you and your family can be prepared for any kind of emergency from fires to black outs to floods with resources from the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). 5
