In this, particular csiderati is given regis represented in research and teaching at the Institute, i.e. Southeast Asia, South Asia and, to a lesser degree, Africa as part Indian Ocean. This range is complemented by courses held at irregular intervals that deal with other regis, particularly the Islamic world beyd the said regis as well as East Asia and Oceania. These regially oriented courses combine an introducti respective regi with topics that have proven themselves characteristic local societies or with topics that make research desiderata particularly apparent. Moreover, additial credits will be obtained in language courses supporting the chosen regial focus. Visual Anthropology I S (O) 6 30 150 2 3 Ctent of teaching: This supplements Module 1 with a complementary perspective society and culture by addressing intercommunity relatis. At the same time, the research preparatis will be ccretised with social anthropological research expressly being understood as a form of transnatial communicati. Intercultural phenomena such as the cceptualisati foreign, transcultural communicati, migrati, transnatialism, globalisati and particularly transcultural psychiatry will be reflected up in the same ctext as the ethnographic collecti of data and their processing. i) The lecture Translocal Relatis is an extensi respective course in Module 1. In many societies, the absorpti and processing of external influences is socially just as reproductive as the maintenance of social structures. Topics such as globalisati and transnatialism are particularly suitable for students who decide to do research in Germany. ii) The course Research Methods introduces the qualitative research methods of Social Anthropology, paying particular attenti relatiship between theory, method and research issue. This is de by developing research plans which will be put into practice in the following semester. At the same time, the course deals with issues of research ethics such as the reflecti the social cditiality of data collecti. Basic knowledge about the applicati for research projects in the academic sector will also be imparted. iii) In a further course, students will be able to specify and diversify their thematic and methodical interests. Visual Anthropology is designed as a twosemester course, supervising the making of small films in the third semester. Skills acquired: At the end, students will be able to develop fields of research their own as well as to cceptualise research questis and elaborate them in orientati to method. This involves the ability to cnect universal theories and specific research questis, up to and including interview ctents. This will be de in the form of research plans for the following semester. In this, the students are to become acquainted with the diversity of socio-anthropological research in Germany and abroad, and they are also to be able to articulate their ethical and epistemological positi as a researcher between their own and other foreign poles. This will be possible by way critical csiderati of culturally specific fundamentals of e s own cultural models or of western/modern cultural models, and by understanding them as e of many ways of cultural expressi. The ability to recognise relatiships usually obstructed in e s own social living envirment will thus be acquired and csequently the ability to see more transparently through e s own social existence and to shape it more actively. Self-reflecti as part academic cognitive process, independent project development, and improved abilities in the transfer of learning and abstracti are the core competences of this. 4 Status: [x] Compu Optial 5 Usability in other degree programmes:
