Rosa Lee Carter Elementary After School Activities Program Fall 2011 Registration Starts Tuesday, September 27 @ 12:00 a.m. Ends Monday, October 3rd @ 10:00 p.m. ONLINE ONLY www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com 1

Course Catalog Dear Parents: Welcome to the Rosa Lee Carter Elementary After School Activities Program! Attached is a list of courses that will be offered in Fall. Registration will take place ONLINE ONLY beginning @ midnight Tuesday, September 27. This means you will have to stay up late Monday. Go to www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com (also available by selecting the PTO link from the Rosa Lee Carter homepage); after creating an account and adding your student s name click the SELECT button next to your child s name and select Special Events. All classes will begin the week of October 10 except for the Monday classes who will begin on October 17. Each activity will take place once per week. Refer to the course description for specific dates. All activities will be held from 2:50 PM to 3:50 PM. Also the CML class does not start until January but you would have to register for it now as the instructor has to register the team for the competitions. NOTE: Children MUST be signed out by a parent or other approved adult. In order to facilitate this process, it will be necessary for parents to rotate the monitoring of sign out responsibilities from week to week. This should take no more than 10-15 minutes of your time, once during the 6, 8 or 10 week session. The coordinator for your child s activity will work with you to schedule your day to handle sign out. VERY IMPORTANT please read through, COMPLETELY, the ASA Program Guidelines on the RLC website. The guidelines are there to make sure our ASA Programs run successfully, and will be adhered to strictly. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please email: After School Activities coordinator: Estele Shooman at e.shooman@yahoo.com PTO President: Anitha Radhakrishnan at anitharlcpto@gmail.com 2

PLEASE NOTE: The Rosa Lee Carter PTO After School Activities Program is not sponsored or endorsed by Rosa Lee Carter Elementary or Loudoun County Public Schools. The ASA program is organized and run by Rosa Lee Carter PTO. Registration Guidelines Registration will be held, ONLINE ONLY @ www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com. All classes will be filled on a First-Come, First-Served basis. Please register your child(ren) for One Class only. Due to the growing number of RLC students this is the only way to fairly give each child a chance to enroll in a class of their choosing If you are interested in enrolling your child in a second class, please email e.shooman@yahoo.com no later than October 2. I will then reply and let you know if there are any available spaces. If you choose to register for a class, please follow these Instructions: 1. Choose ONE class per child. After paying online and receiving a confirmation you must fill out the student information form at the end of this catalog and send in with your child to school as soon as possible. This form contains your child s name, teacher and other pertinent information. No refunds will be issued, unless class is canceled completely at beginning of session due to lack of enrollment. We need volunteers!!! One parent liaison per activity day is required to remain in school from 2:30 until each child has been signed out or taken to CASA. This person will handle the attendance and take care of any issues that may arise during class. In exchange for this service the parent will receive free tuition for their child in the activity of their choosing. If you are interested please email e.shooman@yahoo.com and she will send you a more detailed description of duties. 3

After School Activities Program Guidelines Refunds There are no refunds, so choose classes carefully. Getting to the Activity PTO Liaison (see list under PTO Liaison ) will escort kindergarten students to their activity, after all other students have been dismissed. First through fifth graders will be expected to know the location of their activity and to proceed to their assigned location upon school dismissal. Teachers are not required to remind them of their activity. Class Dismissal Procedures An authorized adult/parent must sign each child out of his/her class. Your child will only be released to a person listed on the Registration Form. If someone other than a parent or previously authorized person is picking up the child, the child must provide the instructor with a written note signed by the parent. Late Pick Up Policy Children must be picked up PROMPTLY when activities end. There is a 5- minute grace period. Time will be gauged by the sign out parent. It is advised that you arrive to pick your child up at least 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to end. After the 5-minute grace period, you will be charged $10 for the first 5 minutes or any part thereof that you are late. After that, you will be charged a late fee of $5 for every 5 minutes or portion thereof. Failure to pay the late pickup fee immediately (before your child s next ASA class) will mean the dismissal of your child from the program for the remainder of the session and no refund will be given. After the third late pick up, the child will be dismissed from the program and no refund will be given. 4

Participant Behavior In the event a child causes a disruption that the teacher feels is inappropriate, the parent will be notified immediately. Should a parent need to be contacted a second time, the child may be dismissed from the program for the remainder of the session and no refund will be given. Health Concerns Please keep cell phones on while your child is participating in the After School Activities Program. During ASA the school clinic is closed. We do not have access to the school nurse or any of your child s health information. If your child is injured or becomes ill, your child s instructor will contact you or the emergency contact designated by you on your registration form. If necessary, the instructor will call 911. CASA Children enrolled in CASA will be dismissed to return to CASA after the activity. Scheduled NO ASA CLASS Dates October 10 Holiday November 7 & 8 Student holiday November 23 25 Holiday Snow Days and Make Up Days Snow days will be made up at the discretion of the instructors. Grades K-2 nd $109 Math Olympiad Ends 03/12 Math Olympiad club is a wonderful opportunity for children to solve challenging math problems in a team environment and to enter into contests to gauge their math skills. During each class we will discuss problem solving strategies, while reinforcing what we have learned previously. Every month (starting in November) they will participate in one contest. They will be scored individually, but their score will also count toward the team score. We will be participating as a team in Division E of MOEMS. No prior knowledge of Chinese is required. Students who have been exposed to basic Chinese language can also join this class. At the end of the program, children will be expected to have increased confidence in conducting daily conversations, use a wider range of vocabulary, recognize words, and have a better understanding of Chinese cultural, societal, and geographical facts. For more flexibility, second graders can take the Tuesday or Wednesday class.
