Language Program Enrolment Codes in PASIprep The collection of Language Enrolment data will resume in 2017/2018 using the Provincial Approach to Student Information (PASI) system. Until 2014, Language Enrolment data was uploaded by school authorities via the Extranet or through School Program Declarations. Starting School Year 2017/18, school authorities are expected to select the relevant Language Program codes on the school enrolment in PASIprep to indicate if the student is enrolled in a Bilingual Program or a Language and Culture Course. This document provides details on the following topics: 1. What are the different types of? Bilingual Programs (languages other than French) Language and Culture course series Francophone, Alternative French (Immersion) or French as Second Language 2. How to select the updated and new Language Program Enrolment Codes in PASIprep 3. Overview of the updated and new the Language Program Enrolment Codes. 1. What are the different types of? 1.1 Bilingual Program (languages other than French) Bilingual Programming is used to describe a partial immersion program where English and a second language are both languages of instruction. o Language Arts is taught using both languages of instruction. o Other subjects are taught either in English or the specific international language. o Cultural knowledge, skills and attitudes are often taught using an integrated approach. PASIprep users should select the corresponding Bilingual Program Language Enrolment codes in PASIprep. 1.2 Language and Culture course A Language and Culture course is a course serie where the language is studied as a subject to develop communication skills and cultural awareness. PASIprep users should select the corresponding Language and Culture Course Enrolment Codes in PASIprep. o Students taking multiple language courses may use multiple codes. o The new codes for Language and Culture Course series can only be applied for students enrolled in ECS to Grade 9. o For students in Grade 10-12 the approach is unchanged. These students will continue to have course level enrolments for language programming courses (using existing high school course codes). Version: 2017-2018.1.0 Page 1 of 6

1.3 Francophone, Alternative French (Immersion) or French as Second Language Program PASIprep users should continue to select the existing Grants Program Codes 211, 221 or 230 for these programs. Category Code Description Alternative French (Immersion) 211 Francophone 221 French as a Second Language 230 Registered in a school offering Alternative French programming (AF) Typically enrolled in a French Immersion program Majority of course subjects are taught daily in French Takes French Language Arts course (FLA) Registered in a Francophone school offering French first-language programming (FR) governed by a Francophone Regional authority At least one parent is a right holder under section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Language of daily instruction is French for all courses except for English Language Arts (ELA) which is taught in English Takes Français course (FRA) Registered in a school offering regular programming and offering French as a Second Language (FSL) courses Language of daily instruction is English Takes a French as a Second Language (FSL) course 2. How to enter the Language Program Enrolment Codes in PASIprep? Starting School year 2017/18 PASIprep users are expected to select the relevant Language Program Enrolment Codes on the school enrolment to indicate if the student is enrolled in either a Bilingual Program, a Language and Culture course or a French language course/program. In PASIprep the relevant Language Program Enrolment Codes can be selected on the School Enrolment screen in the section Other Information - Grants Program Codes. See print screen below. Language and Culture Course Enrolment codes cannot be used in combination with the Bilingual Language Program Enrolment codes for the same language. Maximum 3 Grants Program Codes can be applied to a school enrolment. The use of codes that relate to funding should take priority over the use of the Language Program Enrolment codes.
